The True Nature Of RUDEUS' Depression - MUSHOKU TENSEI Season 2 Episode 1 Cut Content

    Honestly it was kinda odd that they didnt show rudeus crying and breaking down in parts. Maybe they had him be more stoic in a way to imply that he was more dead on the inside? It kinda went with him accepting death during the snow fight.

    It wasn’t that, they moved the part he cried in, in the novel he didn’t break down crying when he threw Aris’s hair in the fire. It was explained in a sentence or two too show how dead Rudy feels inside, all they did was switch the crying in the removing of his party to him not crying while throwing the hair in the fire.

    Tbh I do think they're trying to go the more realistic approach, which is weird for an anime imo. But yea most people don't cry when they're depressed they kinda just shut down, so I think this is a more realistic depiction of that depression. We're also not getting any of his inner thoughts so we can only imagine. Or maybe since they do show all that in the manga is like the "the manga readers know so we don't have to show it" I mean that helps people buy the manga after watching the show, so it would make sense too.

    @@mariokarter13 Crying comes in many forms. You could be stoic 99% of the time, then 1% of the time break down in an intense crying fit. Considering how important "Dead End" was for Rudy it made complete sense why just that would crack something inside him and make him cry.

  • @RottenPieceof
    @RottenPieceof10 ай бұрын

    Rudy’s depression stems from much deeper than just “Eris doesn’t love me”. To me, it’s further emphasizing his trauma before reincarnation. He was abandoned by everyone in the previous life of his own doing, so when he finally thought he has made things right with Eris, she leaves him without saying a word. Rudy blames himself, thinking that “he will always end up alone for who he is”. Which explains why he’s now more stoic, because the less he opens up to people, the less likely people will end up leaving him

  • @paledrake

    @paledrake

    3 ай бұрын

    Well yeah. Eris leaving him was just what solidified to him that he was useless and unwanted, because he was so convinced that she liked him or that he at least was someone positive in her eyes. To have that image be flipped upside down, to have his most cherished relationship/bond with someone go from 100 to -100 as someone with that much traumatic baggage is almost a death sentence.

    Honestly, I kind of prefer how the anime did the depression. I've had a similar type of heartbreak when I was younger and it felt very relatable. You just get kind of despondent around others and break down in private over and over again. As an effectively 40 something year old man with decades of depression and disappointment, it makes a lot more sense to me that he wouldn't likely break down in front of others in this type of scenario, especially after having some time away from the inciting incident.

  • @9308323

    @9308323

    @@justashadow5616 It's not that, this time. She's thinking that if she were to be more clear, then Rudy would figure out where she's going and follow her there. Which, let's be honest, he totally would on both cases and like hell he won't follow Eris. And Rudy's way smarter than the anime portrayed him to be and would've known instantly where she'll go. This is something she didn't want as that would not only stifle his growth but hers as well, as she's pretty certain they'll just spend most of their time having sex rather than training. Eris' problem is that she swung way too much the other way around, thinking he'll understand her intention without giving away her destination by leaving as few words as possible. And quite frankly, she could've been correct in that. Any other time, it would've worked. As I said, Rudy's way smarter than what's shown in the anime. Unfortunately, Rudy's also still pretty darn depressed because of the situation of Fittoa and Sylphy missing. Nowhere near the extent he'll have later, but he's not sitting on that bed because he's being cheery. He's predisposed to thinking negative things. And since he's soaring in the sky before that news hit him, his descent is just that much harder, causing his spiral downwards and making him impossible to actually think through Eris' intention.

    sorry im actually glad they cut this. Its hard to watch this guy muddle around like a loser forever crying over his own misunderstanding of a situation. He's still got his mother to find and he's moping around over eris. I get being sad over Eris I do but you still got important shit to do and the way he acts almost makes me think he doesn't give a fuck about his own family and is too caught up in delusions of making his own. It shows he really doesn't care that much for his family and it shows he really doesn't understand eris at all like he thinks he does. this would of dragged on for multiple episodes so I'm glad they just gave us the spark notes version of his depression adventure. Its pretty easy to read between the lines of his subtle gestures and attitude in the anime to understand his mental state it didn't need to be dragged out forever.

    Personally I wish they would have focused on Rudy's emotions and depression because after these few episodes, 3 being the last of the volume, as an anime only ish I expect that he will rebound from depresion at least a bit so all that these episodes will feel like is a shallow pout from Rudeus. Hopefully there is more important elements that get shown in later episodes but I am really worried.

    I feel like the lack of waterworks is due to 2 reasons, one being the anime's general portrayal of him being calm and collected, the other simply being animation budget

    When I first watched moshoku tensie I thought it would be just another Isekai with pervert MC nothing special about it , but when I rewatch the show with more focusing and attention I begin to understand Rudy and respect him more than anyone else, he's the most reallystic MC i ever seen in my life, he isn't the smartest person and he did lot of mistake but he trying his best to be different than old him , I love Rudy so much

    10:48 Yes. Everything you said up to this point about the missing act at the guild is incredibly vital for expressing where Rudeus is at during this time of his life. My mind kinda can't even start figuring why they would not show his hard-core breakdown. Why, Bind?!?

    Personally, I think Rudy's stoicness instead of crying made the impact of when he DID break down even more impactful. You can see he depressed and putting up a facade and Soldat clearly sees and despises.

    5 more released episodes later, and you got it right on the money... it's like they want everyone watching to hate it with how bad the season has been... a "All attention is good intention" kind of thing, no passion invested at all.

    I ended up not watching this till after the next episode of the anime came out, and I think it answered your question about why they didn't focus on how bad rudeus' mental state actually is-at least I felt like they didn't do that because they did well with showing the severity of the situation after the other major issue showed-or rather, didn't?-that ended up being my exact thought in response to your ponderance there -it's ok, they didn't need to.(Plus I think they wanted to put the emphasis on the reaction of the other adventurers upon hearing what rudius was doing at the desk in that scene for the anime I don't know if it had any significance in the manga but it felt like everybody kind of gave him a bit more leeway after they realized what was going on because who wouldn't if you understood it on the personal level)
