I just found out about the movie Troll so I decided to quickly look clips of it. Compared to the troll in that movie, the mountain troll in this feels far more convincing. You can really feel the size and scale of this thing, the way it moves and the fact that it's hunchback really show how heavy this thing is. Also, you can really tell how ancient and elderly it is just from looking at it. Obviously, Troll isn't trying to go for realism since people have said it's a generic kaiju film just with a Troll, but it really makes me appreciate this movie, especially with it having a lower budget.

That troll was definitely the most impressive looking effect in the whole movie. Not only the look, but also the animation which made it look heavy, unlike many other computer generated creatures on film. Perhaps the movements should have been even slower, but it looked good as it was. Good integration of the various parts too - especially when you consider the considerable amount of time the troll was onscreen. Good work.

@jippiandy What I mean is that it's great to see that these kinds of movies are finally being produced in Scandinavia. Monster movies are rarely produced here, and I guess that's been a budget issue. But with this and Rare Exports and Let the right one in things are looking brighter :)

500 million polys was reached through zbrush´s "HD sculpt" and a very highres displacementmap. It was rendered in Mantra (Houdini), wich enables it to render with less than 6 GB of ram even with this kind of polycount.
