The Trial of Adolf Eichmann (Excerpt)

This is the opening portion of the 1997 Emmy-nominated PBS program "The Trial of Adolf Eichmann." This excerpt is 28 minutes long but touches on many of the legal issues to which objections were made at the time and continue to be made 50 years later. The full program is 2 hours long. Let me know if you'd like a copy.

    I have many Jewish friends, but am not Jewish. My oldest friend (for 50 years) is a German born in 1954 who had nothing to do with the holocaust. But still, he apologizes for his nationality. I remain stunned by what some Nazis did. But I still love Goethe, Schiller, Beethoven, Brahms, Schubert, Schumann, Bach and Handel . German artistic culture is incredibly enriching.

    Nocturnalux it’s here on the same place you are commenting right now. I’ll be honest, it’s rough to watch. Not because of the material, I’ve seen enough to anticipate it. It’s rough because it’s not edited. So, you have the Jewish prosecutors and Judges, then Eichmann in German, several Polish witnesses, one American (Dr. Gilbert who assessed the 1946 defendants at Nuremberg), a French witness, and several other languages. The problem is, you wait for the translation. For example: American doctor. He is asked a question in Hebrew, the translator feeds it to the witness in English. Doctor responds in English. Translator provides answer in Hebrew to prosecutor. It was painful to listen to. It’s too bad no one has edited it, to make it flow. Well, if it has been edited, it’s not available to the general public, because I looked for this very reason. ✌️

    That may be, but I couldn't stop watching it. I watched the entire 114 trial sessions, and actually got used to the Translators. Watching this murderer speak, his reasons for doing what he did and or his excuses and lies, the survivors who testified against him, what they had gone through, was a real life reality TV and historical drama not to be missed. If you want to look into the face of evil, there it was, behind a bullet proof glass dock. And not once did that man show a shred of emotion, regret or forgiveness for what he had done and been a part of. Even to the very end.

    The Tip that is referred to at 5:20 came via his son. How ? His son was dating a part Jewish girl - Her father, a blind lawyer in BA called Lothar, smelled a rat and contacted by mail a German prosecutor called Fritz Bauer who was Jewish. Bauer contacted Mossad and that got things moving. The original woman moved from BA to the US a few years later, possibly because enough details were released that she feared retribution. She may still be alive. Say 20 years old in 1958 , she would be about eighty now. Her first name allegedly Sylvia.

    Defendants like Eichmann and Hoss usually had one thing in common. They never denied what had been done, they simply attempted to shift the blame for it. As to his initial objection, it is true that no judge should be able to be impartial about genocide. However, in this case it was never the genocide itself that was in issue, but merely Eichmann's role in it.

    Also, the N*zis at Nuremberg and here were quite tactical in the lies they told. They came across as rather foolish (to myself and to many, take Arendt’s incredible misinterpretation), but they mentioned certain people at certain times for certain reasons. I was surprised at how far Eichmann went to suggest that he was pathetic and thoughtless when he was rarely less than calculated and far less often than that sentimental.

And I got choked up as hell listening to the opening statement. Please - if anyone's reading this. I'm a gentile and Caucasian: We can never stand by for so long again or at all when people move to annihilate or harm in any way a people for their race, faith, DNA or nationality. Sept 17, 2018 ~ What did We The People of The World learn after WWII? The Socialist Republic of the Soviet Union Turned to Democracy but with a weak Constitution soon turned into Communist Russia with a Dictator. The battle over oil in the Sahara Desert formed more and more mini dictatorships. Venezuela went Social and today murders their inner population under a dictatorship. // The moral of this story is Socialism where the people are all equal and the state controls all the jobs and the homes has been proven over time not to work! // The Democratic party of the USA is on a mission to abolish the Constitution and the Bill of Rights to establish Socialism !!

    Eichmann was a citizen of a foreign country who was kidnapped, in violation of international law, then tried in a kangaroo court with no jurisdiction and a foregone conclusion, after which he was murdered. This isn’t justice by any standard.

    It stands to reason that it is infact the truth, to make a legal case, against the holocaust, was paramount at the time. If it had been a show trial, Israel would not have been recognized in the same way it were.

  • @almadavis8274

    @almadavis8274

    It's easier to say I don't believe then to research why it was done. Goehring talked a guard into bringing him while he was awaiting trial and died in cell before they hanged him. Himmler also poisoned himself before being bought to trial. You don't have to eat the entire plate to know it's tainted. Besides I'm sure they had a doctor standing by. The Israeli also built a bullet proof partition around him.They wanted him to be there for the entire trial and do what they as a court came to the conclusion to do. BTW, they also paid for an attorney he wanted but couldn't afford.

    Alma Davis "They paid for the attorney he couldn't afford"....well how very nice of them. Kidnapped by Jewish agents, tried in a Jewish country by a Jewish prosecutor, with Jewish judges determining his fate. This was nothing more than a show. The minute they took him out of Argentina they knew they were going to hang him. If you were to look up the definition of kangaroo court in the dictionary, it would have a picture of this trial.

    Matthew 27:24-26,29 KJV When Pilate saw that he could prevail nothing, but that rather a tumult was made, he took water, and washed his hands before the multitude, saying, I am innocent of the blood of this just person: see ye to it. [25] Then answered all the people, and said, His blood be on us, and on our children. [26] Then released he Barabbas unto them: and when he had scourged Jesus, he delivered him to be crucified. [29] And when they had platted a crown of thorns, they put it upon his head, and a reed in his right hand: and they bowed the knee before him, and mocked him, saying, Hail, King of the Jews!... Read verses.25 Jews said let this curse come upon our children.... This is the reason many hate Jews

    The holocaust is one aspect of human monstrosity. 6 million people being killed is not good. But their have been worser atrocities carried around the globe which makes the holocaust look like child splay. why can't films be made about them. If there was our children will have a balanced view of life and turn out to be better citizens of the world

    I'm no Eichmann fan, but neither did Israel have any authority to kidnap him from the other side of the world and try him. How can a nation which was not a nation at the time of the offense, do an ex-post-facto reversal and try someone from the past? What Israel should have done was shot Eichmann in South America and gone home, making the affair one of history's minor mysteries. Staging an illegal and public kangaroo trial didn't help Israel with international relations.

    Perhaps on some legalistic level you might be correct, but what it did was make all the ex nazis tremble and look over their shoulders the rest of their miserable lives. Even those who never were caught. lived with such a fear to their dying days. They all worried they’d be the next Eichmann.
