The Trapline Thief

Ойын-сауық

There's a trap robber on the trapline, and the Backwoods Boys have to outsmart it. Join them as they head out on what begins as a routine trapping run, but quickly takes an interesting turn for the worse. Something has been stealing animals out of their traps, and it is up to them to identify the culprit and catch the trap thief in the act. Trapping can be like riding a horse, we start out smiling, then something happens and we end up on the ground. Then we get kicked in the stomach and trampled on...yet we always seem to end up back on top, smiling and telling everyone how enjoyable it is to do what we do! Life on a northern Saskatchewan trapline can be frustrating, but there's nothing quite as satisfying as successfully catching fur, especially after a run like this!
*All animals caught in this episode were caught in legal, authorized humane traps and were collected as ethically and humanely as possible.

Thanks - the photography of northern Saskatchewan is beautiful. Perseverance - running a trapline on a beautiful, warm day seems like fun - glad I'm not having to do it on all those unbelievably cold days. Thanks for sharing your day - You remind me so much of your dad :)

Thanks for watching! Yeah, northern Saskatchewan really is a gorgeous area; it's pretty amazing being able to explore it like we do. Warm days are definitely much better than the cold ones; we've seen -53C before the windchill before. Those are definitely days to hole up in the cabin and keep the fire roaring haha. Thanks for joining us! We've heard a lot about how you affected Dad's life for the better as we were growing up so it's great to finally "meet" you! :)

I catch gray and red fox in conibears along with raccoons, bobcat, and a big wolverine...the wolverine was so big he just about didn't get his big head in the trap..he like your fox was running our trapline and eating whatever was in the traps and we finally caught him. We usually catch our canines in footholds traps but at least they are being taken and not starving to death

Maybe you should try putting in some foot holds ,three or 4 feet out from the front of your boxes.

Nice looking fox. People say they would like to live like you. I have one thing to say to that, wear fur.

Agreed! Fur is so much warmer than anything else, and looks great too! Plus it's renewable and decomposes unlike synthetic material.

Love this..! Trapping is DISGUSTING and should be forbidden. Its not hunting at all and those guy's are killing random animals on the most cruel way. No respect for nature and people respect them..? DISGUSTING people with no knowledge from nature at all....

I'm sorry you feel that way. It is clear from your comment that you know little of either trapping or nature. Done properly, trapping is an extremely quick death for animals that would otherwise almost ALWAYS die of starvation. Nature is not some nice Disney movie. Animals do not grow old and die of old age. They become sick and weak to the point where they can no longer find food, and then starve slowly over a number of weeks. This also happens when populations get too high, and proper trapping helps prevent that. It humanely targets a few individuals, preventing the rest of the population from growing so large that the rest starve to death or die slowly of disease. The fur is used to make our winter clothes, so the animal is not wasted. We have extreme respect for the animals we harvest and do our absolute best to make sure that we treat them in a humane and respectful way. Death is a part of nature; it always has been and always will be. The death that comes from a humane trap is far quicker and less painful than a normal natural death is.
