Even with all the accommodations in the world, I still can't take care of my own personal hygiene, my finances, or feed myself on my own. Other than language, I'm quite a high support needs autistic tbh. For some reason, I was never given a DSM-5 level even though I was diagnosed under the DSM-5, but I think I'm a level 2 personally. Bc I can't really socialise outside of my family and like 3 friends lol, I have debilitating mental health problems, and I really struggle with sensory issues and doing "basic" daily tasks. I also struggle to know when I need to use the toilet a bit, but mostly OK with that one. That symptom is more active at night when I'm sleeping than anything. And I also really struggle with my sleep as well. No hate to you, but I think it's just important to remember that even if you don't find autism disabling (which is totally fine 🥰🩷), it's still a spectrum, and for some people, it can be really disabling. Some people can't talk, some people have to wear nappies/diapers. Even if you subscribe more to the social model of disability, it is undeniable that there are disabling aspects of autism that, even with all the accommodations in the world, are still there. My autism personally is very disabling. I can barely leave the house and I will never live on my own. It doesn't mean that I hate being autistic, I love being autistic, I just do wish it didn't have negative aspects as well. But I still am proud to be autistic and am proud to be disabled. 🥰💖 I know you meant no harm by what you said though! /nm /gen

Okay, on the "trans men are men but trans women are also men" topic, it's also how people feel about bisexual people. Bi women are seen as really straight while bi men are seen as really gay, and it all boils down to the assumption that everyone will or wants to end up with a man, just like the terf assumption that anyone contaminated with "maleness" in any way belongs on the male side of the aisle.

Tbh, it really seems like Alt-Right/Far Right bigots are the ones who actually fall down the 'slippery slope' of extremism, in spite of their insistence that it's the Left/LGBT+ people and allies are the ones who will do so. Probably because they're so openly hateful that they can't get anyone other than other openly hateful people to agree with them. Plus, to them, anything other than being equally vocally hateful is 'oppressing' them. It basically creates this tendency for them to be willing to accept friendship/help even from people who are known *globally* to be absolute monsters who have no right to exist in society.

Another point about the gender neutral language. There are some women who don't have cervixes and even more women who don't menstruate, so it also excludes the people it doesn't need to include as well as includes everyone it needs to. For example "Women can suffer period poverty" is less accurate than "People who menstruate can suffer period poverty", because a twelve-year-old girl or a trans man are way more likely to suffer from period poverty than an eighty-year-old grandmother. So it's just stupid to complain about those terms. Being a woman is more than just body parts, but in some context it's important to highlight specific body parts or their functions.

Like, we're currently having a revival of the Lavender Scare, or so is my impression at least. So I wouldn't be surprised if it took us until the 2050s for trans people to be as accepted and normalised as they should be. And by then, we'll hopefully be able to print reproductive organs from stem cells, and people will hopefully be able to access such treatment if they wish to (cis people, too!). And questionnaires would be completely gender neutral, as in you'd have to check off your gender, what your body configuration is and what sort of medical treatment you're looking for, just on a normal basis. By then, the next big scare could be bionic augmentation ("Augmented eyes? But can they see through clothes??"). And/or AI taking over the world. Or some other dystopian sh*t.

I'm glad it sounds like her heart is in the right place, but the "can't we all just be women?" argument is pretty close to the "I don't see color" argument. Sure, in a perfect world, being trans would be just a random fact about a person like eye color, but that's not the world we live in. And until people stop being killed and denied medical treatment because they are trans, it's harmful to not acknowledge the difference being trans makes in people's lives.

I would prefer to be called a woman if someone is speaking about me individually but I think that's just basic respect like if someone wants to refered to a certain way then do that if you're speaking about them specifically but I think it's a bit selfish and inconsiderate of random cis women who claim to support lgbtq rights to be like oh well i don't think we should use inclusive language in situations where those people should be included.

If you aren''t going to go through childbirth then you arent typically going to be called that. If you are, i'd think its a bit strange to be bothered by the word 'birthing' when that is something you are literally going to do. @@chrisbfreelance For starters, they used footage of people who have explicitly and repeatedly said "I don't regret transitioning" and claimed "These people regret transitioning". They edited one woman's videos to make it sound like she medically transitioned at age 13, when at that age her transition involved simply wearing a dress and using female pronouns. They also made claims about children as young as 12 transitioning medically with zero backing evidence. They implied children as young as 12 are transitioning surgically, a procedure with is both unavailable in Australia and also illegal - so they've falsely levied vague accusations of a crime against minors against all transgender healthcare. The generous interpretation is that their report was a complete and utter failure of basic fact-checking. The realistic one is that they were deliberately deceptive.

Yep, plus even if you'd had a "normal" cis reproductive system, and used it to make kids, you would have stopped being a woman when you hit menopause. Since they say there are exactly two genders, male and female. "All" women have periods and the ability to bear children, and grew the organs for it themself without transplants or medical intervention. So /by transphobes' own definitions/ post-menopausal, otherwise healthy, cis women *can no longer be defined as female humans*. Can't be a woman, can't be a man, no other human options because of the only-two-genders rule. So... congrats on your post-humanity or ascension or something, I guess? 👍

That is if you are refering to the dictionary definition of the word transphobe. @@trevorchester4439 "Ok but trans women still aren't women. They're men :)" Reality: Transgender individuals (TIs) show brain-structural alterations that differ from their biological sex as well as their perceived gender. To substantiate evidence that the brain structure of TIs differs from male and female, we use a combined multivariate and univariate approach. Gray matter segments resulting from voxel-based morphometry preprocessing of N = 1753 cisgender (CG) healthy participants were used to train (N = 1402) and validate (20% holdout N = 351) a support-vector machine classifying the biological sex. As a second validation, we classified N = 1104 patients with depression. A third validation was performed using the matched CG sample of the transgender women (TW) application sample. Subsequently, the classifier was applied to N = 26 TW. Finally, we compared brain volumes of CG-men, women, and TW-pre/post treatment cross-sex hormone treatment (CHT) in a univariate analysis controlling for sexual orientation, age, and total brain volume. The application of our biological sex classifier to the transgender sample resulted in a significantly lower true positive rate (TPR-male = 56.0%). The TPR did not differ between CG-individuals with (TPR-male = 86.9%) and without depression (TPR-male = 88.5%). The univariate analysis of the transgender application-sample revealed that TW-pre/post treatment show brain-structural differences from CG-women and CG-men in the putamen and insula, as well as the whole-brain analysis. Our results support the hypothesis that brain structure in TW differs from brain structure of their biological sex (male) as well as their perceived gender (female). This finding substantiates evidence that TIs show specific brain-structural alterations leading to a different pattern of brain structure than CG-individuals. Source: neuropsychopharmacology -> Biological sex classification with structural MRI data shows increased misclassification in transgender women

I actually find people refusing to use the terms that include "person" to be kinda degrading. Yes, I am a person who menstruates.. Does being AFAB make me not a person? F you, don't deny my personhood. Also, I clearly have amazing, superhuman powers. As a wheelchair user, all public toilets I can use are unisex. Cis men use the same toilet I use, as do cis women, trans folks, enbies, anyone in a wheelchair, really. Despite men peeing in the same room I use to pee, I have yet to find myself in any danger. It's almost as if AMAB folks don't go to the toilet to harm AFAB folks, just to pee and poop. Either that, or I am superhumanly powerful. The transphobes can't be that wrong, can they?

And even if someone who was AMAB¹ *did* go to the bathroom to cause harm, a sign on the door or a law saying they can't be in that bathroom _isn't going to stop them._ They're already planning on breaking at least one law. They aren't going to go, "Gosh, I was going to break these laws about not causing harm to others, but now this law says I can't go in that bathroom. Guess I have to go home." ¹Not saying that AFAB abusers don't exist, mind. Just that these people always assume that the only person capable of being predatory are those who are AMAB. Which makes the laws they've tried to implement even dumber, because they're just assuming that AFAB abusers don't exist.

I appreciate your discussion on gender neutral language in the medical sphere, Jamie. I also want to emphasize that it’s for the knowledge and education of all persons as well - someone with a cervix needs routine exams regardless of their gender. Someone with a prostate should start getting routine colonoscopies after a certain age regardless of gender. Stating that only women need one or men need another implies that those who don’t fit that niche may not need that care, which puts them at risk for the health issues that those exams are early detection and prevention for.

Also getting so mad and oppressed being referred to as a person who gives birth is so hilarious because the same women would say that doesn't makes them a women and that they are more than that 🤔. It's literally saying that's all they are which then again also discredits and disassociate with women who can't give birth or doesn't want to. It also discredits other people that can give birth like nonbinary and like men who are born with a uterus and v. So apparently they are women too??
