The tragic story of the Bidoul tribe | SLICE | FULL DOCUMENTARY
In the early 80's, Jordan and Unesco expelled the humble people of the B’doul tribe from the ancient city of Petra to declare it as a world heritage site.
While hundreds of thousands of tourists from all over the world flock to the site, the local community seeks to rebuild their life on the tiny territory allocated for them.

What can you expect from a UN department?, just like the OMS, UNICEF, etc, UNESCO is interested in everything except human life or culture. The inhabitants of those places become displaced, it's pure and simple gentrification endorsed by international organizations and governments, local people becoming servants in their own land, the worst thing is, tourists don't know the damage they do to locals.

Is it better for there to be no tourism then? I wonder if necessary changes create good but at a huge cost. A case of damned if you do, damned if you don't.
What an absolutely BRILLIANT documentary!! It’s refreshing and enlightening and so sensitively and thoughtfully put together! Well done and Thank you!!!

Let people live and preserve Petra they all belong together
Its awful how many Indigenous cultures around the world have been removed and most destroyed all for tourism when so many of our ancestors moved around the world peacefully without destroying others and Im not talking about wars conflicts or colonizing Im talking of those curious Ancestors that went around this World just to SEE.
I feel so sad that the people of Petra is suffering and has no place to be call home. Even the Jordanian Government and UNESCO and the tourist not interested on the people of Petra.
Thank you for sharing the story! I hope the government will honor their promises to the Bidoul tribe!

Lmao government honor there word They have a pattern sequence of only speaking what u want to hear not achieve. This story is similar to indigenous tribes all over the world n the ones that leave deeper into the lands it’s funny how the government always finds their way to the individuals trying to distance themselves from modern day civilization
Please leave them alone let them live they are part of Petra help them ❤❤
Great story! They need to include the Bidul as part of the unesco site, I would much rather visit and see people living in the caves as they always have.
Thanks very much SLICE, a great docu about a delightful place, with some sad facts and seriously changes for locals ! But they became strong and fitting to attract tourists with their knowledge, a positive way to go over a "unfair" decision of UNESCO, it is resilience 👍🙏
I have been in Petra, beautiful place. I got goosebumps when I first saw the Treasury.

Oh that's heart touching 😢 but what a beautiful documentary is. 😊
Nice documentary
Beautiful people!
So why displaced the people with nothing, that's inhumane 😢
You don’t force them out, you hire them to help operate the site. Give them shelter and a way to survive.
I am very facinated with Petra..I didn't realized that there are people who are displaced due to its inclusion to UNESCo Heritage List...I feel sorry for them. I hope this can be corredted.
Bring back the tribe to Petra. Respect the culture of this people. UNESCO stop land grabbing using a certain Laws. Without a consultation with the people of bidoul tribe. Bring them back to their homes not on a villa. Petra is their home.

yes, protect the site from the very people taking care of it. oh and don't forget to over run it with tourists.

Beautiful people🩷
They should have known all those tourists would be Xtimes more harmful to the site than those living there and preserving their community. From their homes to their road, the Bidoul tribe is definitely getting the business

@ A.Wootz: Yes, I agree with you! He is a man of wisdom. Sadly his vision and philosophy will not win in the end. As an anthropologist I have witnessed it all over our world, including my country of Canada. Traditional Indigenous Peoples NEVER win in the end. Once governments and entrepreneurs interfere for $, so many traditional cultures lose 'their true identities'. And unfortunately I must include many of my own profession! :( [But that is for another discussion]

Its a lovely place. But so sad the people were forced to leave their cave homes
That is sad.

UN is not doing 100% to help Bedouin tribe. Sad😮
Restless people manipulates and influencing people to adapt to foreign ways because they don't love keeping life alive. That's the message I get from this document.
0:01: 🏜 The narrator visits Petra and becomes friends with the Bedouin tribe, exploring the caves and experiencing their way of life. 7:21: 🏡 The Bedouin people agreed to have homes built for them near Petra in exchange for compensation and protection of their jobs and businesses. 14:24: 😊 A man meets a woman in a village and develops a close relationship with her. 21:20: 🌍 The people of Petra welcome tourists and treat them as friends, but struggle with maintaining their tradition of hospitality due to lack of dialogue with local authorities. 28:21: ! The speaker feels unhappy and uncomfortable when they cannot see their land, crops, and herd, and they value the freedom of the Bedouin nomadic lifestyle. 37:31: 😔 The local population in Petra is facing challenges due to the expansion of the village and lack of support from the state. 44:22: 😢 Sheikh Salama has been trying for 30 years to get his tribe what they were promised, but the government has not fulfilled their land agreement. Protect monuments for tourists ????? Damn tourists.
Wow...soooo they kick out people who've lived there for generations...just so it can be worn down by tourists trapsing thru it all day. 🤦🏾♀️🤦🏾♀️🤦🏾♀️
After the UNESCO edict, PTSD Petra Trauma Sadness Displaced
The Greeks and the Romans they left a priceless gift to Jordan but looks like Jordanian government does not have the correct infrastructure, you need to bring tourists a certain amount but also you have to give a certain amount of services....This means proper settlements for Bedouins as well as proper infrastructure for tourists...with respect for the environment

Shame on UNESCO
Are there giants there
LORD GOD JESUS CHRIST IS THE LIGHT , THE TRUTH , THE GOOD WAY , THE HOLINESS , THE SALVATION , THE LIFE ...
I'm sure most reasonable people are fine with living their lives without visiting Petra considering it means displacing people who have lived there for centuries and degrading it with the constant traffic that tourism brings. The truth of the matter is it's not about preservation. It's a money grabbing opportunity for the government and UNESCO. If it was about preservation, they would have left it to the people who have been taking care of it all this time.
