    I actually hadn't realised her brother passed away. For those that don't know she and her brother went to an SM audition where her brother auditioned as a b-boy. She was just there to support him but he didn't actually pass the audition and she was casted instead. Without him, we might never had had the pleasure of knowing BoA. I hope he rests in peace.

    She's definitely the definition of pioneer! Imagine being sent by your agency to a whole different country in the early 2000s, pretty much by herself, not understanding a single thing and not having a translator and being forced to learn the language so you can communicate, all of this when you're just 14-15 years old... And still being able to pull it off and be one of the top stars in Japan. I can't see anyone nowadays doing this.

  • @timothydewa9096
    @timothydewa9096 Жыл бұрын

    BoA suffered a lot when she was sent alone to Japan following her pre-debut. Japanese music was quite different by the early 2000s. Her first stage performance ID peace B was failing, her album didn't sold well, she needs to cope up with countless bad days such as leg sprain on stage, harsh life, repeating busy days, people's rejection, etc. Sorry new K-pop, BoA is pioneer, so Korean music was now being accepted in US. Without her, SM just the old school.

    BoA is the artist that got me into K-Pop yearssss ago. I had loved a few of her earlier stuff (not knowing it was kpop) from friends since i attended an international school (Im Latina, not Asian but had tons of Asian friends)..so i was shocked when a few years later she was singing English on MTV every saturday morning (this must have been during her American crossover) but i recognized her face. From there i was hooked. This all began when i was about 12ish and now Im 33 yrs old and STILL love kpop. It has changed sooooo much from when i first started listening but thats what keeps the love of this genre alive. Im glad BoA was my OG ult bias for life, even if with time ive become multi and biases change frequently 🤣

    You gotta put some respect in BoA's name and her 22-year-old career, she's the definition of K-pop, the blueprint, she saved SM from bankruptcy at such a young age (13 years old), the others must write it down. That's why she's called the Best of Asia, period. Paved the way for each K-pop generation and influenced so many people and they are too scared to even compete with BoA till this day, let's be real. We also can't forget that she was really the first K-pop artist to burst into the J-pop scene and make a cultural impact, she slays the game in any language. She just outsells, I'mma put it that way 🥰 The others can't relate, not in their vocabulary, anyways... Let's all hail BoA, the one and only Queen/Empress of K-pop 😍 (Although i don't like these labels, since we pretty much know BoA's worth and she does herself, but it just needs to be said.)

In 2009 I started listening to K-Pop and for the longest time I had no idea that she was K-Pop because I heard her Japanese songs. Same thing with TVXQ had no idea they were K-Pop either Over the years I've liked a lot of different groups and concepts but I love BoA there's not one song, album or concept of hers I don't like. She's a very versatile artist when you hear her music and see her dances you can see the influence of 90s-2000s style music but she manages to incorporate today's influences too.

    Hmm. You didn't mention her leg injury, which she talked about in an older reality show with Shinee's Key, called #Keyword BoA. If I remember accurately enough, she said she injured her leg during a tour in Japan, and for a long time (or even today) her leg is "asleep" before her pills kick in. For example, she spoke how to get out of bed or get in/out of a car, she'd sometimes pick up her bad leg with her hands to move it out of bed/car. I cannot imagine performing harsh choreography alone for like 2 hrs per concert, with a bad leg. Even if you got meds. Also, her loneliness is even worse because back in the 2000s, Japan did not have machine translation or foreign signs everywhere. For example, for us today, if we travel to Korea or Japan, they have signs in English. Same for some ATMs. She did not have that, much less a manager that could translate for her - she translated for herself by herself. She learned the language through a BUSINESS textbook, which vocab and tones are not what regular people speak in. Politically, tensions in Japan and Korea were rough and she was taking a risk crossing over to perform music in Japan in the 2000s.

    Back then when I first heard BoA, I thought she was Jpop until I learned she was Kpop. She was the first one I can remember to really bridge the gap between Korea and Japan, which became the norm for all Kpop Idols. Japan was the 2nd biggest music industry in the World at that time. If you made it there, then you made it big. She was that first Asian superstar, that even Americans started to hear about her. BoA was a pioneer, and she is still killing it many years later. I feel like BoA and Rain are underappreciated pioneers.

    Man, I thought she was Gen 2. When I got into Wonder girls and SNSD, I found my way to BoA and fell in love with a lot of her songs. But my first was her Japanese song Every Heart.

    I'm always shocked at the hate she gets even nowadays on social media, I will never understand it. people are actively hating on her and it's heartbreaking to read sometimes because why are they even saying all these things. great video and she deserves all the respect and love she gets

    Thank you for this! I would only add that she was bullied in school (which was one of the reasons she quit school) and being 14-15 and travelling alone to Japan and living there with completely strangers.

    Oh gosh, don’t even associate Jessi with BoA, she was so jealous and disrespectful to BoA when she was a nugu. I still can’t stand her till this day even if she’s best friends with Tiffany. But 100%, BoA is an inspirational Queen.

    I’m from Panama 🇵🇦 and I discovered BoA in 2004 thanks to Inuyasha. I was a 14 year old Latin american teenager singing japanese songs lol. I sort of forgot that stage, but my mom visited Korea this year, and I was like “mom! Do you remember that song Amazing Kiss that I used to put on repeat in the car?? Well that singer is Korean!” 20 years later I replayed the song and it made me cry. Such great memories.
