The Giants of Elden Ring actually had a king who was mentioned by Alexander at his Mt. Gelmir location.

I believe it’s this: Perhaps I'll head eastward. There's an old saying I've caught wind of. "Above the lofty clouds, the icy giant's peak doth soar, here lieth the flame of ruin, which ever burning roars."

Its interesting to note that in ER the Erdtree is intricately involved in reincarnation and both DS2 and ER giants are turning into trees. So the Giant Seed description seems more intriguing in this context. I wonder if they could be likened to forces of nature. If a golem is clay animated by soul and this knowledge was gained by warring with giants then I wonder if golems were effectively just artificial giants created to be slaves. Indicating that giants are animated earth; like stone. Interesting then that the chaos and entropy of humans weathers them down and in the end produces trees. What's interesting about the aesthetic of the mountaintop of giants is that we associate mountains with snow. However it seems to be ash from the great forge. From whence trees grow. Volcanic ash is actually really good for soil fertility and was part of why Pompeii existed and so wealthily. The red headed giants associated with flame and a forge on a mountain sounds like lava and a volcano. Lava is just molten rock. In both cases it sounds like mythology of humanity conquering nature. But the truth is we are part of nature and it adapts to us and will adapt without us. Whatever systems of order we attempt to impose on it will break and the resulting ash just serves as fertilizer. Edit to add: its also interesting to think about trees and reincarnation in the sense of modern agriculture which relied heavily on cloning.

One connection I've noticed but rarely see talked about is the fact that Elden Beast follows the same combat formula that Aldia used, albeit on a grander scale. The "Run towards a boss that tries to zone you out" formula.

Yhorm is one of a giant from dark souls 2, the last one. And i think the dead fire giants are impaled with roots like the ancient dragon that is in Leyndell

That’s interesting about yhorm as there’s always debate on his “species”. What’s weird is that you can see his face in the boss fight cutscene so I always thought he’s a different species. He definitely has a similar design to the giant lord from ds2 though. The fire giant corpses are interesting too. I totally see the resemblance to the Leyndell dragon too. Some people have been saying the roots or spears are from Messmer so it could be a lot of different things. Thanks for checking out the vid and I appreciate your comment!

@@xLevelT fairly certain he was originally to be, and his original design had no face, but was changed late in development to have a face, signaling he no longer is literally part of the same species. early trailers had him faceless iirc.

Honestly, honestly, I would’ve just loved another NPC that was very involved with the giant portion of the story similar to BenHart in dark souls two

Agreed, more insight into their culture or the war itself would have been cool. Perhaps some time travel shenanigans might take place in the dlc 🤞🏻

Fire Giant isn’t so bad imo. It’s more fun if you transition on and off torrent in my experience.
