The Tragedy of Gary Speed, His Secret Letter Revealed...

#garyspeed #footballicon #footballlegends
Gary Speed was a football legend, always smiling, always winning. But what if I told you behind that smile, he always wanted disapper? One day, the world woke up but Gary didn’t. And that’s when everyone saw the worst death in football history! Let’s uncover.
On September 8, 1969, Gary Speed was born to Roger and Carl Speed, both belonging to Chester. He grew up in Aston Park, Queensferry where he attended school. Coming from a working class family that loved football, it was obvious that Gary liked football, much like the rest of his friends.
Gary had latent potential that would break free later in his life, but who knew what price it would come at. It was evident that Gary wasn’t like the rest of the kids. After moving to Hawarden High School, Gary played for the under-13, under-14, and under-15 teams. From time to time, he also enjoyed a bit of cricket. It’s also hilarious how comedic family rivalries ran deep, as Gary would choose to support Everton while his father supported Liverpool, just for the extra chuckles. I mean, we’ve all been there, right?
Anyway, at the age of 15, Gary was granted the opportunity to join the Leeds United Youth system, and that’s where he showed football managers that he was a needle in a haystack. An unpolished gem with untapped potential. Gary blazed through the professional ranks on 13 June 1988, and it was almost time for his big debut.

My Dad took his own life in 2009, and the passing of Gary Speed really hit me. I feel for the 2 boys and his family in general. Suicide of a loved one is like a nuclear weapon going off in your life.

Rest in peace, Gary. No need to worry now. I've struggled with demons in my life, too. It's almost too much sometimes. Pity about the gaffe in this film about the Romania penalty, which poor Paul Bodin missed, and the annoying A1 voice. You're a true Welsh legend, mate and we could do with you now. Bless you. Rest easy.

As someone who works in suicide prevention - particularly among young men, I can't express enough to everyone who has commented here with their own experiences just how heartwarming it is to see so many people really understanding that depression doesn't discriminate. The message really is starting to get though and that's such an encouraging thing, even in the face of every tragedy. Every story is different and nobody can judge. I have no doubt that all are resting peacefully 🥺

In deep affect and feeling of hopelessness he probably chose to end his life. An extremely tragic and devastating death of a man in his early fourties. I hope I don't bring out feelings of showing disrespect in any way or form towards Gary Speed as I put forward that I believe that there's circumstantial evidence that Gary Speed was a terribly unlucky victim of sexual abuse from a pedophile football youth coach at a very early point in his career. As far as I am aware It has been well established that Speed, early on, was among other young, upcoming footballers who were exposed to a pedophile football youth coach. From reading a lot of unpleasant background stuff about this years ago , I wouldn't be surprised if what happened prior to his death was that Gary Speed chose to keep a horrible secret about being a victim of sexual abuse, and if so ultimately his scars from having experienced sexual abuse could easily have been the underlying tricker of suicide after an argument with his wife; an argument which in hindsight could be perceived as "the last straw that broke the camels back" for a deeply depressed Gary Speed. Much, much more depressed than anyone knew. This is very tough to talk about, but nevertheless I'm surprised nobody has brought up the question about sexual abuse in Gary Speeds life - in this thread. Sexual abuse shouldn't continue to be tabu after all the shit about this terrible phenomenon that has risen up to the surface in the last decade or so. In football and other societies - as well as in society in general.
