Day 5 on the Camino Primitivo is maybe the toughest day on any Camino route, some might not agree and claim the climb to Roncesvales on the Frances or the climb from Irun to San Sebastian on the Frances claims this title, however there is one variable that sways it in the favour of this Primitivo climb, and that is the unpredictability and severity of the weather. It is not so much the incline and terrain that makes it tough, it is also dealing with what mother nature throws your way that ultimately crowns this as the current champion of tough days.
During the 27km route from Campiello to Berducedo you will gain 933m of elevation and drop again by668m on the way down, which by the way is pretty steep and not always pleasant.
Whilst I struggled with severe flu during this day it did not detract from the beauty of this stage, it was with out any doubt spectacular. Stock up a bit on some snacks before Borres, maybe even in Campiello, and make sure you have something warm and rain/wind proof.
