Hi Xander, thank you for sharing this infos. I was hiking in Zermat last year but I missed the 5 lakes. I have to correct that 😀. I live in Grisons, we have many awesome mountains as well for you to hike... The Engadin for example is incredibly beautiful. Hello from Switzerland

Nice! Well done! I would recommend you to experience the Oeschinensee - start at Kandersteg, pass by the lake and climb up to the „Hohtürli“ - you may spent the night at the SAC blockhouse (reservation required) and may proceed the next day to the „Schilthorn“ - 2nd day would be the harder one but it is feasible. From the Schilthorn you may take the cable car down to Stechelberg. Or - if still fit and fresh (I doubt ;-) ) you may make the descent over the „Schiltalp“ - that would be a marvelous finish of the hike.

Another option for this area is: Start at train station Reichenbach im Kandertal and take the bus to Griesalp there. From there you start hiking to the Bluemlisalpehutte. Once there you hike down to Kandersteg and approach the Oeschinensee from above. From Kandersteg you can take the train back to your starting point. Worth noting is that Kiental and Griesalp are very nice places too for lazy days. You can also do a hike from Kiental towards the Schilthorn (Kiental is in between Reichenbach and Griesalp). This year we will return there to do these and many more hikes all over again. Might do some we have never done before that you showed in this video as well. Thanks!
Sketchy you say???!! I’m there! I live for the Swiss blue trails! ❤

Thanks a lot! True.. It is. We slept in the back of our car at public parkingspots, ate from a German supermarket and skipt all the gondolas. Then is was okay!
One I'd recommend is the Aletsch Glacier hike. Amazing view walking above and along side the glacier. Gondola gets you up high to the start so very little climbing involved.

Can you do these hikes in mid May or will it be too cold? What weather can I expect? Love your channel :)
@WanderwithXander
Жыл бұрын
Thanks man! May might be a bit soon for some of the hikes if you're at high altitude. But that depends on the snowfall of the last winter! Days can be warm but nights will be a bit cold :) I think half May will give some oppurtunities for sure!
Thank you for sharing the video. A question, most of the hikes are easy access and can be done on self hike?
@WanderwithXander
2 жыл бұрын
Yes! Every hike, except for the Hardergrat is quite easy and accesable. We didnt use a cable car for those ones. Just a train for the Hardergrat, which can be done without one as well (check out my 2021 Hardergrat)

I found trailrunners to be suffiecient, in the past I used bigger mountainshoes but Im not going back anymore. As you can see on my more recent hike video's (the TMB, in Peru or 2 weeks ago a marathon) I completely switched to the Nike Wildhorse 6! Thanks for watching!

Kandersteg to grindelwald or the opposite way, it's basically 3 stages of via Alpina , Kandersteg-Griesalp (via amazing oeschinen lake), griesalp-lauterbrunnen, lauterbrunnen-grindelwald...if it's too much altitude meter, there a several rope ways or a train which helps you with some ascents
this is a great video- thank you. I am going to Switzerland in 3 weeks... I would love to hike while I am there. I unfortunately have a bad leg from an army parachute accident years ago. Is the Schafler Mountain hike relatively easy?? My mind wants to do ALL the hikes! but this broken body will not cooperate !! Your information is appreciated! Cheers, Justin from Canada
@WanderwithXander
2 жыл бұрын
Nice to hear from you Justin, thanks for your comment! Schafler Mountain is not technical, but a bit of climbing at the end. Maybe take the gondola up as high as it goes and then the last part might be doable! Bring trekkingpoles, that will help. The views once youre up there are amazing and you can enjoy the Mountain hut for some lunch or tea. Hope it helps!
