    Your videos are great but your voice is competing with what should be background music. It is definitely foreground music. It is so loud that it's hard to focus on the information you're providing. Why music for the entire lecture? Otherwise, thanks so much for the well explained information in each of your videos.

    Very informative, now does anyone have a recommendation of a switch that would have all of these things?

    Maybe tune down the background music a bit or completely avoid it. Awesome content though.

    ok my question is which port we use to conect a switch to a router,we use one of the lan ports or uplink

  • @NGTAcademy

    Any switchport can be used to connect a switch to a router. Uplink port usually has higher bandwidth than the other ports, but sometimes they are all the same. It just really depends on how large your network is and where the bottle necks are for you to determine which ports to connect your core switch to the router and to other switches. For example if your router just connects to the internet and the service is 100Mbps or less then a port that has at least 100 Mbps is fine.

    Uplink ports are to connect between switches..

    Hi Anees, technically an uplink port can be connected to any device, it does not matter if it is a switch or a router or any other device as long as it is connecting to the same type of port standard such as Ethernet. Uplink ports also a lot of times come with interchangeable transceiver modules so you can change from for example a Gigabit Ethernet copper connection to a Gigabit Ethernet Fiber connection, or even increase bandwidth capabilities of the port. In a large network with a lot of switches then the switches will usually use their uplink ports to connect to other switches, that is correct. And, they are also normally connected to the network redundantly, using two ports which is why alot of switches come with two uplink ports.

    The uplink "links up" to the ISP or internet service provider

  • @NGTAcademy

    @NGTAcademy

    Dominique Ritzer that statement is not 100% accurate. The uplink ports on a switch can be used to connect to other switches, a router, or other types of network devices. It is called an uplink port because usually has higher bandwidth capabilities and more physical connectivity options than the other ports on a switch. That allows the port to connect the switch back to the core of the network without bottlenecking the connected hosts. The uplink port is not called an uplink because it connects "up" to the ISP. In fact a switch should never be connected directly to an ISP without a router or firewall installed in between.
