I’m halfway through and find the criteria a bit inconsistent. Sometimes there seems to be more weight place on international success, which I think makes the most sense. Other times, like Logan Stieber, it’s virtually ignored for college excellence. Which is it?
Great video. Thanks for posting this flo
Awesome video love this stuff. Keep up the great work
Back in the 80's when he was in college (Division 2), if you won your weight class National Championship, you were invited to compete in D-1 NCAA championship. From his sophomore, junior,and senior seasons,he won 2titles(one in D2 ,and one inD1, each year for a total of 6titles each year)., They don't have it like that now,and some may refer to it as the Haselrig Rule.He got hurt and didn't play college football, but ended up in the NFL (if I'm correct, making the Pro Bowl)!

I have had the honor of watching many wrestlers on your list, wrestling one of them, and helping train two of them. I'm not informed enough to comment on the women, but this was a great presentation. Most dominant wrestlers I ever personally saw? Kolat and Smith. Best series? Spokane 3 match Cross vs Terry. Fav of all time? The Zain Train. Thanks for vid.

I saw kolat up at Penn state years ago ( PSU vs Lock Haven ) he had that look of a serial killer in his eyes lol
It seems a lot of the older wrestlers basically pre 2010 got the bone on this. Wrestlers back then didn’t get paid hardly so they stopped wrestling after one maybe two Olympic cycles. Had some of these guys wrestled 15 years on the senior level like the guys now they could’ve had 6+ world titles (ie Cael, Gable, Tom Brands,etc). Crazy to think what John Smith could’ve accomplished if he hung around another 6-10 years.
@genghiskhan7041
Жыл бұрын
Smith had no choice but to quit wrestling, his body gave out on him. He had a great run though. Back in John's day there wasn't any big money for winning Olympic medals like today. $500,000 goes a long way. Cael was already pretty old the last time he made the world team and finished 5th. No way Brands would've won more than another couple titles, tops. Gable might've been able to pull off multiple golds over the years but he needed the money and wrestling coaching paid money.

Great that you put all this time and energy into rating the top 100 American wrestlers. It is well done but I feel some of the old time wrestlers such as Jack Vanbebber who was the first undefeated 3 time NCAA champion and who pinned ever single one of his opponents plus he won an Olympic gold medal have been underrated. Sure it was a long time ago and there was not as much competition as in the modern era but wrestlers such as him and others like Hodge would be even better wrestlers today as the training methods and techniques are even better. So all that has to be taken into consideration when rating the old time wrestlers otherwise they get underrated which I think some of them have been.
It should be titled: Flos politically correct simp list.
I got to roll with Bruce Baumgartner before he won any world titles! Super cool dude and a great wrestler. I learned a lot from him.

Haselrig had literally his own rule named after him bc he was too good how on earth could you not include him? Like I genuinely want to know - need to know. It’s not a small oversight. It’s an enormous one that otherwise has to be considered purposeful bc there’s some smart ppl on this channel. I just want to know why. One of the rare few to beat Angle at heavyweight. You could argue Dan Gable is the most influencial US wrestler, but he is not the most decorated having lost once in college and he has a relatively short international period of success. While at different stages of their careers, Lee Kemp beat him in the Midlands and probably moved him more quickly into coaching. Gable certainly captured a lot of attention for the sport as a competitor and a coach. Sanderson may pass him in coaching success; time will tell.
Lots of PC stuff in this. Seems some people made the list because of their identity. Or at least that’s what’s stated…
Rulon is an incredibly nice guy . Very humble , soft spoken and respectful . While I agree with most of the wrestlers on this list , the rankings are wild .

Yeah, it’s hard to compare big accomplishments against longer, more sustained careers. Beating Karelin was incredible, but there was a lot with the rules changes and everything surrounding that. I don’t want to take anything away from him, but I might not have put him quite that high…
My college teammate beat metzger in the big eight finals but lost to him at nationals but i also wrestled at the same time of metzger our high schools were about 10 miles apart but different weights classes thank goodness
I think an argument can be made for a couple of female wrestlers being in the top 100 if this list was accolades and credentials. But if it’s level of talent and pound-for-pound excellence, then no female can even sniff the top 100 EVER.

It would have been a huge upset for anyone to beat him in the 1980 Olympics. One of the most impressive things he did was when he just walked out of the stands at age 26 and beat Kevin Dresser by 12 points in the finals of the Midlands. I don’t think he had wrestled a single match in 3 years and he had moved up 2 weight classes.

Wade Schalles is still my favorite wrestler. He was the king of funk and even had a video called "Legal Pain." The "X" in the mat wasn't his idea, though. It was someone in the student body that challenged him to pin his opponent on it. Coach Bubb never knew what was going on because when Wade was pinning his guy, the tape rolled up and came off the mat and stuck to the guy who got pinned. I was teammates with Dennis Koslowski's brother, Jim. He also was an extremely tough wrestler who placed 3rd in the nation. Cool guy, too. That video was embarrasing. You should be ashamed of those rankings. Im not sure who ranked those people but it was so way off you should maybe find a new career. Bader, i love your commentating. Please dont ever rank wrestlers again. Dan Gable said Chris Campbell was the best wrestler he ever coached. Gene Mills had the NCAA pin record for decades. Jayden Cox missed weight. Rulon Gardner beat Karelin by a fluke at the absolute end of his career. The rules that beat Karelin dont exist anymore because they were so bad. He slipped a grip. No points were scored.
Some of these rankings I don't get...Slay over Lewis...for example...lot other rankings too. Still enjoyable video.

I totally agree. And they have him ahead of Rutherford, Metcalf and no Yanni.
This list is definitely not legit as far as the top 100 greatest wrestlers in United States history! Especially in the way you guys ranked these guys! I'm confused how you can rank ncaa 1st to 8th place wrestlers higher than ppl that won world and Olympic gold, silver and bronze medals!? This list is just way to all over the place! And how do you rank these collegiate wrestlers that won all through college but never did the freestyle or Greco-Roman stuff? Not to mention, you got ppl on this list ranked higher from winning division 2 and 3 championships over a division 1 title and world and Olympic achievements? I'm confused lol
Dawg wasn’t Gilman from Nebraska?
Ali over Metcalf? Lmao woke much
I would also credit Burroughs with pushing Dake & Taylor to be so good. Dake & Taylor were constantly battling with Burroughs for that 74 kg spot. And when Dake finally beat Burroughs it turned out to be the best thing for all 3. Because Burroughs was great @79 kg & Taylor was perfect @86 kg.
One HUGE bit of information you failed to mention regarding Greg Gibson ( #65 ) was of all his amazing accolades and there are MANY. He not only represented his Country in the Olympics but more importantly HE SERVED HIS COUNTRY HONORABLY. FROM 1978-2003 HE SERVED IN THE UNITED STATES MARINE CORPS. Now that is unquestionably truly remarkable.

Only at the 80's on the list. But man what a list. I'll came back later and let you know if I agree. Already Sschalles and Mills should be much higher on the list.
Women should not be on this list. They should have there own top 50 or something. Awesome male wrestlers are not going to make top 100 because of girls that could never beat them. 100 best wrestlers of all time right? I’m sorry but the women aren’t in that class

Good list but I think u missed putting Andy Rein on this list. He won Outstanding Wrestler at Tblisi and I'm not sure anyone other than Gable did this (can't find good records). He had injuries at a few key moments in his career and was done a disservice at the Olympic by the ref... He was in my opinion hands down the most fun American wrestler to watch ever to this day.

Kyle Dake is #2 overtaking Burroughs currently and David Taylor is top 5 all time after his Olympic gold.
@jsl1375
5 ай бұрын
I would DEFINITELY not put Dake above Burroughs at this time, even accounting for his superior NCAA resume. If he beats him again in the trials and wins Gold in Paris then maybe. But at this point, no way. Agree though that Tayor is probably top 5 at this point. If he wins another gold in Paris, he's probably one or two.
Cael Sanderson is definitely #1 127-3 in Highschool 159-0 in College 1 Olympic gold medal 1 silver medal at world championships Current best college wrestling coach
You guys lose a lot of credibility after that atrocity of a top 10… what? Cael number 6? That is straight up disrespectful to the goat of NCAA wrestling and arguably just the goat.
