2012 was one of the greatest years for film in several years. So many good and entertaining films. Life of Pi, Les' Miserables, Silver Linings Playbook, Skyfall, Zero Dark Thirty, The Sessions, Django Unchained, Moonrise Kingdom, Beasts of the Southern Wild, The Hunger Games, The Avengers, The Cabin in the Woods, The Master, Lincoln, Amour, Argo, Seven Psychopaths, Looper, The Hobbit, The Dark Knight Rises, Cloud Atlas, and Flight. I mean just movie after movie, each great in their own right.

Nice list Jake. It's full of original and bold choices. I was surprised to not see Silver LInings Playbook and The Avengers in there, but then, without those two, it allows for a really interesting list. Perhaps the most interesting one i've seen. I like that you are a big supporter of Cloud Atlas and that you celebrate its ambition. Great list.

Love your videos, Jack. I've seen about half here, because, for different reasons, I missed out on the cinema releases of Argo, Looper, Cabin in the Woods, Seven Psychopaths, though I can probably still catch Li of Pi. (Coming in January in Russia, I should think.) Either way, great list! Can't wait to see the rest of these. P. S. Is there a place where you review these films?

Like everyone else here I suppose I should throw in my two cents (as I believe you americans say) and say that Moonrise Kingdom is the only thing missing here for me; I'm a Tarantino fan and can pretty much guarantee I'll love Django before I see it though! Much love man, keep the interviews coming.

While I did love Perks, and enjoyed SLP, the downside of making a Top 10 List is, well, just that -- I can only pick ten. And, like any movie taste that is always evolving, I may look back in a year and wish I had included others on this list. This is just more of a snapshot of a moment :) Anyways, thanks for watching and commenting!

All I'll say is 2012 was an AMAZING year for movies! So many great movies that making a top 10 will be EXTREMELY difficult. And I still have yet to see many of the big hitters like Les Mis or Django Unchained or Zero Dark Thirty (won't be able to see that one until January sadly). And other movies not on this list like The Impossible, which looks incredible.

I must say Jake. I just discovered you and as a follow Houston native I should have sooner. You do your research, your interviews look like they set the actors at ease and I completely agree with this list. And your prior comment is write. I liked the Hobbit. Read the book. Was it the best movie of 2012? No. I think it was setting the stage for the next movies.

This year was a good year film-wise... I actually had too MANY movies I wanted to watch this year, all year-long. I didn't have enough opportunities or the sufficient time (or the money - tickets are expensive these days) to head over to the theaters to watch them all... Time to wait for the DVDs for a few movies I really wanted to watch but missed the opportunity to.

Why it is a good movie? Because of the journey they went through, the request for Erebor, the discovery of Gollum, the history of how Bilbo found the precious, how Bilbo got into the adventure, how he gets the idea to write the books, and many more to come. Doesn't that proves it is really a good movie? I can't give you specific parts to make it good because its good from starting till ending..Sorry if my English is a bit broken since English is my 2nd language.

2 things about Django is that A. at the time movie makers were killing off the black main characters and Tarentino changed that very dramatically in his, and B. the scene were Leonardo Di Caprio cuts his hand on the glass uses no CGI or special effects. Okay, if u say the entire book can fit into 3 hours story, so tell me, which part should PJ cut out? The introduction of the dwalves? How Bilbo got into the journey? Or maybe Radagast part?U see, every part of the story has their own story telling of how they get into the journey, the trouble they face, the appearance of the Riveldell, the elves, Azog and so on. I couldn't see any part that should be left out because they are all related to each other.
