    I grew up in Toledo from 1962-82. i had a few friends that would tide the train to the valley, then back. Many of us worked at GP Papermill and GP Plywood Div. Fun times.

    One little tidbit of Toledo line trivia: Among the folks who would wave at us every time we passed, Joyce and her family lived in house that was displaced by the Hwy 20 overpass at MP 752. The earliest regular engineer on that run would make special efforts to wave at everyone but Joyce invited him and the crew to stop on Thanksgiving day for dinner, which they did. (That was in the day of a noon departure from Albany and speeds that allowed a round trip in under 12 hours, usually.)

    The railroad crossing shown at 19:34 is in horrible shape. Driving the crossing requires you to almost come to a stop and crawl over it. It will rattle your teeth going over it, and two others towards Nashville. Hopefully ODOT and the railroad can get together to repair these crossings. Thanks for the video and history.

    I'm a truck driver and i haul wood chips, I am at Toledo pretty much every day, its very rare that we don't go to the GP mill out there. I often wonder why GP uses trucks to move their stuff when they could just use this train because trucks have weight restrictions and you can only move so much stuff whereas a boxcar or chip gondala doesn't and the only restriction is the carrying capacity of the car!

    @pacificrailproductions5281

    Well, I’ve noticed ever since the new highway 20 bypass opened, it seems like fewer chip cars run the line. Maybe the mill prefers more trucks for chips than train cars(?). I don’t really know! But that’s pretty interesting to hear your perspective as a trucker that works to GP! Thank you for sharing here!

    @@pacificrailproductions5281No problem, happy to help, also wanted to say I don't really understand GP and Interfor's logic with using trucks over trains. The trucks are weight restricted (I can only be a maximum weight of 105,500ibs) where as a train isn't, it's only weight restriction is the physical carrying capacity of the car, as far as I know. To me it just makes more sense from an economics standpoint to use a vehicle with no weight restrictions and ship or bring in as much product as you desire. I'm wondering if this has something to do with the low track speed because the trucks can go 55mph on hwy 20 while this train has a permanent 10mph speed restriction between Philomath and Toledo, so maybe they want their product moved faster! Love the videos, keep up the great work!
