I live in Montana and about 6 or 7 years ago one of the two remaining Doolittle Raiders passed away here. He was kind of a local hero. At his funeral the US Air Force did a fly-by of the city with a B-1 Bomber. It was pretty great!

I am Japanese and Its so great video! Due to their low altitude, bombers intrusion was seen by many Japanese citizens. I was impressed some testimony, a lady said "I saw a plane and I even see pilots face, I soon realized its an American plane. The pilot was handsome and it was not Japanese." and a boy said "I was flying a kite and suddenly, a plane was approached my kite. Its very low altitude then I worried the collision of my kite. I think the pilot also saw my kite. Under the air raid warming, we never play kite so he may believed the success of surprise." Some citizens called police but they never believed the story.

My grandfather was washing himself in a stream somewhere in the Philippines and got this strange feeling that he wasn't alone. It turns out a young Japanese soldier was found in the bushes with a hand grenade in his hand. Fortunately he didn't kill my grandfather or himself and was taken prisoner. Later my grandfather stopped some American soldiers that amused themselves by putting out cigarettes on this poor Japanese kids skin. My grandfather was 26 so they called him "Pops" because he seemed so old to them. "Pops" was our slang for father. I always remembered that story

I must have missed this, but when was the actual raid supposed to be, officially? I can understand why he went ahead of schedule after that picket ship spotted them, but being that close to the target would've meant the window of opportunity was small to begin with, so how soon was that official date supposed to happen?

I always love the Doolittle Raid. They knew it wouldn't be a major strategic victory but a needed victory nonetheless. They knew there was an extreme chance they would all end up dead or captured, but they still went. They weren't even entirely sure they could all get off the deck, but they still went. They had to launch early, meaning they would probably ditch in Japanese waters or territory, and they still went. A great story of will, determination, and courage of few great men to give their country the boost of morale it greatly needed. A story that should never be forgotten. They really need to make a movie that gives this story the respect it deserves. Not just as a side note in a movie about Pearl Harbor or Midway.
