I live in Montana and about 6 or 7 years ago one of the two remaining Doolittle Raiders passed away here. He was kind of a local hero. At his funeral the US Air Force did a fly-by of the city with a B-1 Bomber. It was pretty great!

I'm not American, but the balls on those guys, they must have known in all likelihood they were going to their deaths, and still they stepped up, got the job done, and most survived.
I had to blink twice and pinch myself three times to make sure I wasn’t seeing things 😁👍. Great to see you posting more Baz.

Your flag over Eglin Field should have had 48 stars. Hawaii and Alaska became states in 1959. Nit picking aside, I really like your dives into little-explored slices of history. Keep on keepin' on!

I am Japanese and Its so great video! Due to their low altitude, bombers intrusion was seen by many Japanese citizens. I was impressed some testimony, a lady said "I saw a plane and I even see pilots face, I soon realized its an American plane. The pilot was handsome and it was not Japanese." and a boy said "I was flying a kite and suddenly, a plane was approached my kite. Its very low altitude then I worried the collision of my kite. I think the pilot also saw my kite. Under the air raid warming, we never play kite so he may believed the success of surprise." Some citizens called police but they never believed the story.

My grandfather was washing himself in a stream somewhere in the Philippines and got this strange feeling that he wasn't alone. It turns out a young Japanese soldier was found in the bushes with a hand grenade in his hand. Fortunately he didn't kill my grandfather or himself and was taken prisoner. Later my grandfather stopped some American soldiers that amused themselves by putting out cigarettes on this poor Japanese kids skin. My grandfather was 26 so they called him "Pops" because he seemed so old to them. "Pops" was our slang for father. I always remembered that story
I always learn something I didn't know about a particular battle when I watch videos from this channel. For instance, Doolittle's fear of being court-martialed. Truly a well-done video!
@Dragon359

That's an understandable fear. You do something outside the bounds of what was intended, and the first notion is that you'll be punished for it. He was probably immensely relieved with the end result.

I must have missed this, but when was the actual raid supposed to be, officially? I can understand why he went ahead of schedule after that picket ship spotted them, but being that close to the target would've meant the window of opportunity was small to begin with, so how soon was that official date supposed to happen?
@recoil53

Facinating! The modification of strapping brooms onto the bombers was so unexpected lol. The psychological impact of the strike for both America and Japan is really interesting too. Thanks for another great video! BazBattles is really the best.

Baz, you are a youtuber who brings History to life- your format of videos is probably the best there is, and I can't tell you excited I am when a new one comes out. For your next video, may I suggest you cover a battle like The Java sea, Or Cape Matapan. Or if you are looking for a longer video, Operation Pedestal would be amazing. And obviously its only a matter of time before Midway.
Very good work my friends. So glad to see you again. Please keep it up. Will always be here for you. Have studied military history for over 40 years . Again Thank you so much.
Thank you for making another video like this! I made a playlist on my KZread page exclusively for your World War II videos, specifically anything naval. Now that you've done the Doolittle Raid, I REALLY, REALLY HOPE that you're planning to make your own video for the Battle of Midway, but also the Battle of the Coral Sea, and ANY of the naval battles during the Guadalcanal Campaign. KEEP UP THE GREAT WORK!!!
Incredibly interesting and well-made video! Thank you Baz!
Always informative AND entertaining!
I love seeing the historic stories of my Navy coming to life on screen. Thank you for putting this together, Baz! Looking forward to seeing more content from you and love seeing that the pace is picking back up on the channel!

So happy Bazbattles has posted again.
Read a book about the raid many years ago. It was amazing that they were able to do it. Also if anyone ever has a chance to go to Dayton, OH to the US Air Force Museum there is an amazing display about the raid an all of the individual members of each crew. It is well worth your time and the rest of the museum is something to see.
Can't wait for the battle of Midway soon 😁 always glad you post again Baz

May I recommend visiting the Museum of the US Air Force in Dayton, Ohio. There is an extensive exhibit on the Doolittle raid, including a B-25 on a 'carrier deck', MANY artifacts from the actual crew and raid, and many details on the stories of the airmen.

I always love the Doolittle Raid. They knew it wouldn't be a major strategic victory but a needed victory nonetheless. They knew there was an extreme chance they would all end up dead or captured, but they still went. They weren't even entirely sure they could all get off the deck, but they still went. They had to launch early, meaning they would probably ditch in Japanese waters or territory, and they still went. A great story of will, determination, and courage of few great men to give their country the boost of morale it greatly needed. A story that should never be forgotten. They really need to make a movie that gives this story the respect it deserves. Not just as a side note in a movie about Pearl Harbor or Midway.

What is there to admire? The fact that the Americans dropped atomic bombs on civilians ! Do you understand this or not!? They were peaceful people, old people, children, women! And Japan bombed US warships, not civilians.You have no shame.Bombs containing combined uranium-238 have already been used everywhere! Including Syria and Ukraine, because it infects the earth and the Ukrainians themselves with radiation! You rotten souls will answer for everything!

The reason the Japanese planes that were in the air didn't approach the American bombers was due to perfect timing. The Japanese had just finished staging a mock air attack. The pilots mistook the bombers as part of the mock air attack, even believing it was their own bombers painted to look like American bombers.
