Eisenstein is one of the greatest moviemakers up to now.All the directors coming later took inspiration from him. Its movies were shown as examples in the american schools for movie directors. Just to check my statements, watch all the Alexander Nevsky movie, in original version, and later, Star wars, the scene with the evil emperor examinng its army. . Search for similarities and compare.

Well, there is one thing, and that's the impact of the cavalry charge. It's well showned in this clip as the knights gently push back the russian forces vs running them down/trampling over, like in the rohhirrim charge of Pelennor fields in TRotK.

Eisenstein was a great genius among the movie directors. Its movies were used as examples for many years even in the american schools for movie directors. In particular Alexander Nevski has even the music of prokoviev. The combined work of two great genius made a masterpiece.

well, what did you want, the film was shot during world war 2, in my opinion in Kazakhstan, there were few resources for filming. so the armor looks funny, German helmets in my opinion generally made of buckets for carrying water, Russian shields like they were made of pressed carton

В Казахстане снимали массовые сцены для фильма "Илья-Муромец", а "Александр Невский" снимался в РСФСР (Москва, Коломна, село Городище).

The "Battle on the Ice" is usually viewed as a common conflict of large feudal lords in the Middle Ages. That's actually a iconic film with fenomenal soundtrack by Prokofiev. Not a fan of USSR myself but the fact that they didn't turn the Levonian order into some kind of vilian barbarians but showed them preety epic and racy deserves my respect.

Yo a medieval SCP scenario has so much potential. Imagine the templars or any other knights order to contain anomalies such as "demons" and hunted them to extinction or a lost crusade against a specific creature. For example the battle on ice (not known if it actually happened) could just be an anomaly wiping out entire armies

The film is called "Alexander Nevsky" 1938 (USSR) The video shows the moment of the beginning of the battle with the Russian squad on Lake Chudskoе on April 4, 1242, where the army of the Teutonic Order was completely defeated, those who survived the battle itself fell through the ice and drowned while escaping.

No idea what this movie/show is but it manages to show the impracticality of using swords in battles like this. Most of them can't even swing their weapon properly because of the crowd, spears and halberds would be far more effective here.

Вообще-то здесь используют кадры из фильма"Александр Невский ' 193-х годов. И фильм вопщемто частично историчный, Пскох тифтонци взяли?-взяли. Дружину князь собрал в Новгороде?-в Новгороде. На Чутском озере Александр победил?- победил. Да возможно есть немного пропоганды, но чего вы хотите через пару лет война с немцем, так-что нужно настраивать людей бороться, бороться и бороться до самой победы!!!(Очередной совок пропогондист).

Saw this movie on PBS in the early 70s and found it fascinating and technically a triumph (though highly stylized) the imagery and cinematography was pretty much before it’s time and on par with any of David Lean’s films including “Dr.Zhivago”and “Lawrence of Arabia”……the main character Nevsky is done as a stage performance with a great deal of heroic posturing and body language (which can be said of a number of characters,after all its basically a propaganda film)but overall a truly great film with outstanding battle sequences and a well choreographed climax…

Таки потонули))). В 70-х после просмотра фильма Ледовое побоище никто не хотел играть за рыцарей, строили снежный городок и там рубились, это куда круче всех соулсов вместе взятых, ушла эпоха...

Most of the "Teutonic " army at Lake Piepus was composed of Estonians and Danes. Im painting up a 28mm scale Teutonic knights wargaming army just now. Based for "lion rampant" rules, 2 units of Teutonic knights on foot, one on horse, one unit of Teutonic crossbowmen and for a bit of colour(remember though many teutonic knights had their own heraldry on sheilds)a unit of mounted Danish knights. After that im making a similar sized Russian army-i need to make them to get my boyfriend to grudgingly play the game with me lol! He has no interest in history or wargaming. If in the future i increase the size of the teutonic army i will add livonians and estonians. And volunteer crusaders from western europe.

For thise who don't know, the Teutonic Knights still survive as a religious order if priests and brothers in the Catholic Church.The knights also had a woman,s branch of nuns.Both the men and women of the order do charity work.

I would imagine they would take of their capes during a battle. It seems very hot and unpractical with such clothes when you are fighting for your life. The same goes with those crazy helemets. They gave almost no vision, were heavy and made breathing difficult.
