I failed my driving test first time. I put the car in a gear even before starting the car. The examiner almost jumped out of her seat and out of the car. Made me laugh. She failed me. Anyway I passed the second time.

I don't think starting a car in gear or not in gear should make much of a difference. My dad puts his car in reverse or first after he turns off the engine and he doesn't switch to neutral when he starts it afterwards. Is there actually a reason to start the car only in neutral?
Speaking of reclusive, isolation has been great for my math grades. Today I showed up early to campus while everything was closed and empty. I sat in my car with my math textbook enjoying the space and absolute quiet. Best 20 minutes of the whole week.
Nice update. Hilarious (unintentional?) how the subtitles change 'Finding x' into 'Finding eggs' at about 12.11, and a couple of minutes later you refer to things "coming out in a scrambled way".

Really want to thank you for your content. Admittedly most of it’s well over my head as an English nerd, but in the same breath it’s so nice to have someone so passionate about things I know nothing about explaining those things with the energy and enthusiasm that you do. I have an extensive background in emergency services (ambulance and emergency dispatch) which I am maintaining part-time while spending 40 hours a week in class in a firefighting academy, so in the midst of all the chaos to be able to pop in my earbuds and listen to a calming voice that isn’t yelling and/or swearing at me is so peaceful and relaxing. Thank you for everything you do!
Chemistry 101 at uni, they used to post the test results outside the lecture hall by student number. People would crowd around the board, and when they found their number, some would cheer, some would break into sobs. SOOO much riding on those tests, people's hopes and dreams. Some would say "But I studied SO hard! Why??".....

I subscribed to you because I enjoy your voice I find it very relaxing. But the topics are ALL very interesting. Keep enjoying what you do :)
Tough woman such as you Toby, does not let a few failures bother you. Some people have a dreadful memory of other people's tough times, so sometimes keeping quite about these things seems wise.
It was fun to see all the things you made for your animation. The final product never truly show all the hard work that goes into it. Also, my hair was almost that long once. I used to tuck it into my pocket! :D
Nice quality work from hours and hours of painstaking work. I do like the face to face videos, the real you.
I failed my driving test more than once too :) I had good control of the car but little experience so a novel large intersection tripped me up and in the nervousness flowed with the traffic through a red at a special multistage intersection that had no side road. I picked up driving very quickly but not enough exposure to get exhaustive experience. I remember remarking that we should have such experience in simulators, no reason to limit to a few tense hours because of high expense and put such pressure on the exam. I'm not sure there are simulators even today.

Most simulators will use some game engine, and are more similar to computer games. Simulators seldom prepare for uncertainty that we encounter in real world. The ones that will work on real physics are too slow in rendering, and delay will creep in.

You must be the most humble person in the world to want to share your moments of failure. And I understand that if one learns from failure, that's what really counts. Frankly, I would be embarrassed to share any of my failures even when I learn from my mistakes.

A possible variation on "minimum effort, maximum gain" is "I work hard at being lazy" 😎(ie Work smart, not hard 🤓). On perfectionsism, the WW2 tank commander "Old Blood & Guts" General George S. Patton said it best: "A *Good* plan [vigourously] executed NOW, is [always] better than a 'perfect' plan executed next week" 👍😎
Always like your approach to videos. Feels more organic and less invasive with all the jump-cuts and effects on other channels. Sounds like having sanctioned perfectionism is healthy, allowing to be more free with other projects.
Great to know more about our fav youtube scientist

I think just the one from the wikipedia en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Philosophi%C3%A6_Naturalis_Principia_Mathematica
I have taken a total of 10 driving tests before I passed it in UAE. It took me 2years to do all the tests and pass, and many hours of training. Last three tests I did not have any mistakes but they passed me after 3 tests without mistakes.
I felt really bad on instagram for a long time and realised it was the type of content i subscribed. So I deleted everything related to stars and fame and only concentrated on art related stuff. Now its a nice place where i can inspire myself. It really depends on your actions.
Your animation Finding X sounds great and nice hair.

Love it, Im in New Zealand and I have to tell you the standard of driving here is terrible, some people obviously have negligible neuron's firing and the system fails you. At some point we all have had a little "Speed Demon" in us, Vrooom ! , Thanks for Sharing : )
enjoyed the video
I definitely agree with you about instagram
I also failed my driving test twice before passing on the third try. I was a nervous wreck all three times but especially the first time. I actually thought I was going to pass until we got back to the parking lot and the examiner told me I didn't pass and that I had ran a red light. I had no idea I ran a red light until I was told. I guess my nervousness caused me to block that out. The second time, I turned a little bit too early as a family was crossing the street and I immediately realized what I did and knew I had failed. The third time ended up being the charm and I was so glad to have finally passed!!
There should perhaps always be some part of one's life that strives for some kind of perfection. At least for me, this allows me to go easy on myself with the rest of my life, where I am appallingly imperfect.
