The Territorial Call of the Red Squirrel
When feeling threatened, red squirrels aggressively chatter to protect their territory. Often confused for a bird sound, this video shows a red squirrel making its classic territorial call.

My local red squirrel likes when I play these sounds for him. He's my only friend in the world

Well I hope you have friends now 😊 I have a Red Squirrel named Sherbert, and she’s my only friend in the world.
He’s on a roll
Lmao, I feed a whole bunch of these cute red squirrels and a few chipmunks.. I know all about the drama.. but it is cute!! I named one thumper, because his tantrums are usually on the ground right next to his food and his little feet literally make the thump, thump sound.😂 very cute video🐿
Reset button please. This squirrel has crashed.
The dancing front paws!
That is so adorable. He's going to vibrate himself right off that tree.

I have enjoyed using this video on a several times with the red squirrels at my feeder and living in my wood shed; it gets a huge reaction from them. I play it on a loop in several locations simulateously on several devices so the real squirrels are fooled into thinking that there are 3 aggressive intruders. The gang living in my wood shed were very destructive and BOLD! I played this video and they started furiously swearing back at me and my phone, as if they were defending their territory. Then I placed an owl decoy on my deck railing and played a great horned owl video on a loop for the squirrels. Then my owl decoy spent the day perched in the woodshed. The band of squirrels left my shed and never came back. I was glad to find a humane alternative to ending their destruction.

Oh wow! Great story, thanks for sharing!
I miss this sound. A house up the road has 3 huge cats and she disappeared 😕
You are partly right, The first sentence of what you wrote, but this is not a territorial call, it's a danger alarm call to try to scare off predators and warn other squirrels in the area that there is danger. The territorial call they make, when they are trying to protect their territory is a sound that almost sounds like a rattlesnake and it's meant to try to intimidate/warn other squirrels and predators to stay away from their territory. They do it whenever they sense something is approaching their territory. I see it everyday, I have red squirrels in my yard, I've observed over the past few years.
New tornado sound.
I just played this for my red squirrel friend....she ran into the woods scared But then got her courage up and came back and gave a call of her onw!!
👌👌👌👌👌👌👌
I wonder if I could ask permission to use this wonderful clip on some music I am writing about threats to our native wildlife? Thanks Nick McCann
