The TERRIBLE TRUTH about living in a CHATEAU, Patrick's Chateau TOUR -Journey to the Château, Ep. 81

In this week's episode, Patrick gives a walk-through tour of the ground floor of the chateau as it currently appears during all of the renovations. Also, Stuart replaces the broken panes of glass in the greenhouse windows, and Patrick plants 80+ dahlia bulbs in pots in order to start growing them in the greenhouse before transplanting.

Well, you've explained carefully what you were doing & why every video, I can't for the life of me figure out why anyone thought you were destroying anything. You've protected the stairs in the kitchen & railing as you put new cabinets in front of the drywall you've installed. Last, there was a detailed fireplace RESTORATION, not destruction, removing recent decades fireplace mods! Kudos for your thoughtful, careful kitchen restoration and remodel for the kitchen & throughout the Chateau!! My best regards!

That was a great idea but never happened. 😮. We truly laughed out loud because your comment is just heartfelt. Thank you so very much. Love from Colombe.

I tried to comment earlier in the live chat….what I wanted to say is the comment about the fireplace was mean….if they had been following and paying attention they would have known why you did what you did…I’ve done renovations and there are decisions that have to be made that concern cost and what’s cost affect and what isn’t, what will bring the most benefit and impact. It always looks worse before it gets better….Hang in there guys….follow your heart and instincts…you are doing a fantastic job of it. Thank you for bringing your U Tube family along with you❤ PS keep it nice folks…this is a lovely channel with lovely people involved….negativity isn’t necessary 🙏

We are so close to more progress. Now, it will take the best part of the next year to renovate most of the first floor rooms. Good advice about taking time off. I wish we could. We’d have to have someone trusted for the dogs. But we will visit Brocante markets and nurseries as a time off. Sending you love and hugs from Colombe. 🥰🌷😘

Bless your hearts, I’m exhausted just seeing all the things you are trying to do. I think you are feeling a bit overwhelmed perhaps because you have so many projects going at the one time. Haha I get in a guddle if I have more than two things on at the one time 😊. The main thing is you are still laughing and still look at it as an adventure of a lifetime., which of course it is! With your combined vision, taste, talent and hard work, this will be a chateau to be very proud of, and each and every week brings it closer and closer to fruition. So don’t ever lose heart, and if you feel worn out don’t forget to take a break and have a rest day or two. Oh and try just finishing one room, say the kitchen, that will make you feel all organised - then ready to tackle another room ❤ Sheena xx

It always amazes me even when renovating or decorating just one room, all the house seems to be upside down. The one thing I've learned is if you can set one room aside where it's dust free and you can sit down and relax the rest of the mess dosen't matter. Glad you're both enjoying your greenhouse, we've just have erected a 6×3mtr poly tunnel and 3 new raised bed, so we've been getting all our veg seeds going and hanging baskets planted up. I’m so tickled you replaced the greenhouse missing glass with plexiglass. It brought back memories of my dad, and I loved how you mentioned the delightful earthy smell inside it. I can see how many plants you have. It’s wonderful. The chateau is in the midst of renovations and one room of renovations leads to five rooms of disarray! It’s part of the process but having videotaped it, you will one day enjoy seeing the changes. It’s one step at a time and keep laughing. I didn’t realize that Stuart is an artist. I used to make lithographs when I was much younger. It is extremely tedious and the process is complicated but I loved it from start to finish. I stopped when I had children, but continued oil painting which I still do as my quiet enjoyment today. His portrait of his great grandmother is lovely! Be well!! xx

Well done on the greenhouse Stuart 👏and enjoyed the tour you can imagine what it's going to look like 😍🍷

Hi Patrick and Stuart, thanks so much for bringing us on a wee tour of your home. As others have said just take it one day at a time and have fun and enjoy all your amazing renovation projects. You are both so talented and creative people and amaze me every week with what you have achieved so far. I think if you have a comfy bedroom and a sitting room and your kitchen completed this summer then the rest can wait. I know that sounds easier than said but don’t be hard on yourself or feel despondent and remember why you love this place. Big hugs from me 🫂🤗 xx🇨🇮

Looks tidy for a building site, it has always been my dream, to complete one room and then move on to the next one, as you know that never happens. Renovating is like a Rubik's Cube, very messy just before all the tiles/blocks fall into place, Sandy Williams, Coober Pedy, South Australia

Hi Stephan. Happy Easter from Colombe. Thank you for your trust and input. We love Tony and Jane. They are fantastic friends. I have to say that I am absolutely amazed that you, like us, figured out that there are many chateau channels where the owners pretend to do the work but are actually just acting till the cameras stop. Glad you liked my tiling. Stuart did all the cutting, so he’d not damage nor ankle even more 😮. Hugs from Colombe 😊😊😊

Seeing your house tour reminds me of my kitchen and bathrooms remodel years ago. I too had a microwave oven--mine was in the living room. The refrigerator was in the dining room. It was very cramped and disorganized living for 4 or 5 months. I feel your pain. I wish I could say that I kept my sense of humor as well as the two of you do. Your videos are always a delight to watch.

Lovely as always. ❤ Thank you, thank you, thank you for the tour. No question about it, the chaos is the most challenging part of living within an ongoing renovation. Still, anyone who’s been through it knows it’s a process, it takes time and patience, and it will all be worth it in the end. Even with all the clutter, it was easy to see just how fabulous it will be once it’s all done. ❤ You’ve been holding out! I guess we knew Stuart was an artist. But I had no idea how talented he clearly is. Well done Stuart! ❤ And based on some of your work we just saw, it should come as no surprise you’ve ended up in an ancient, grand chateau. It’s as if this has always been your destiny. And Patrick, I don’t know who painted the portrait of you in your hallway, but, ADORABLE! 😍 Well done, my dears! Big hugs to you both. ❤❤

Gosh Jayson, you are just the most wonderful man. ❤. It is chaos indeed. Our former renovations always had spaces that were livable. Not this time 😂😂😂. And you are right, of course, it will be fabulous but it needs an experienced eye to see the possibilities. We didn’t really emphasize that Stuart is actually an artist. He is incredibly talented and can sing and act to boot……. Well that portrait of me was painted by….. me. Stuart challenged me to use my 13 years of art classes in school and do a self portrait. I also painted my grandmother and reproduced a few 17th century portraits. All Stuart’s fault 😂😂😂. In any case, I will never be the artist that Stuart is. We send you all our love and hope you two have spring soon. ❤😊❤

Stove in screened room on the deck. Only room that was normal was our bedroom. Also, we both worked outside of the house full time. Fun fun😂

Good morning Patrick & Stuart, my-my, people can be so critical of others. I think you are just the bees knees sharing your 'private' lives with us. There is so much work to be done, then you also would like to keep it as original as possible. I can share so many stories with you it will be pages and pages long! Regardless, yes it looks a mess, but we have al been through that, if you are "normal"!! I think some people were just born adults, they do not know what life is like to be a child and growing and learning. Easter has started last Sunday, and it is gradually coming to the great Easter weekend. Now you have choices, you can take a break on Friday and Sunday and work on Saturday and Monday and presume your daily chores from then on. Work on the rooms you think is most important for yourselves and carry on. I love the walk through from one room to the next. The French are so romantic and I love those high walls and doors. As you say Patrick we still laugh a lot and that is all that matters, enjoy your daily lives, making the best of it and be grateful. I love what you are doing, gradually, steadfast and precise. Many blessings. Kind regards, Elize

I had a kitchen and bathroom renovation that took 12 months when the contractor promised 14 weeks from start to finish! 🙄🙄 12 months without a kitchen and 8 weeks without a shower!
