No not really. The CIS wasnt a bad or corrupt government, in fact, they were better than than the republic, however, the military was the bad part. Commanders like grievous were ruthless and brutal, slaughtering clones and civvies alike.

@@zombiemaster4525 yes but they were led by two evil Sith lord's to commit several war crimes and sidious used that to make them look like criminals but I mean if dooku turned on sidious for being responsible for qui gon's death and the corruption of the republic and jedi and he can use the CIS and droid army to help the citizens rather then terrorize them and then get them to join their side and turn them against the republic and expose the republic for using clone slaves

The closest in terms of Storm Troopers as a story point is Star Wars Battlefront II (2017 video game). If their is one thing i can criticize about that game is the story somewhat, the story is not bad its decent. But when i first played the story we are put in the hands of the Empire instead of the rebels. An i was like Yes a new perspective, like the original battlefront 2 were we play as the 501st . However personally i knew full well they would most likely make your main characters switch to the rebels side which it did. Now that disappointed me greatly cause we finally get are hands on the Empires. I wish the story was about how the Imperial remnant had been fighting the new Republic years after Endor, in a role reversal. We get to see why these men an women and see what their reasons are for joining the imperial army. An maybe show that the empire army ain't all that bad when one see the people serving under it an show their human side. An maybe we get to show how they slowly form the first order in the coming years. Personally, it was a missed opportunity in terms of story in my book.

@@DumplingDelivery If i were to make the story it should have been like this, now the beginning is fine so leave it as it is. But its around Operation Cinder begins, have Admiral Garrick Versio shoot the messenger at the face. An not commence operation Cinder instead retreat with all surviving forces. Showing that some Imperial officer are not willing to commit atrocities for a dead Emperor any longer. Have the story timeskip probably a decade later. Showing the side of the Imperial Remnant being hunted down by the New Republic. Show, their desperation through their worn out ships, depleting food supply, and energy for their ships. As well as infighting among other Remnant forces. Show how divided the empire is by this point. Maybe, show some atrocities the New republic forces are willing to commit, on Imperial world that continues to not comply with the republic. Forcing the crew of the Corvus to save imperial citizens. This way we get to see what happens in a different light too the empire post Endor, the new republic ain't all that good as we thought leading up to the Imperial remant reforming ones they meet with Snoke into the first order.

I can’t see the the Empire didn’t take care of their soldiers. First, it’s more expensive and timely to train new recruits than keep veteran soldiers. Yes the military was vast, but casualties mounting up over time the Empire would not be able to replace the personnel in heavy hit units fast enough to maintain a fighting force. Second is maintaining loyalty. Doesn’t natter how indoctrinated you are, if a leader doesn’t take care of the military, they would either desert or rebel.

Consider: Old Man Palpy knows that. He wants to cause as much fear, death, and pain as possible in order to fuel the Dark Side. ...I'm not kidding, that is the reason Disney came up with in order to excuse making the Empire as cartoonishly evil and incompetent as humanly possible. Without leaving it with even the bare minimum of competence and moral ambiguity they had in Legends.

The Empire didn't throw stormtroopers at it's enemy, it threw imperial army troopers at it's enemy. Stormtroopers are an elite taskforce, mucht like their real life countrepart. Stop spreading this misconception.

That was Legends. Canon robbed the Empire of any shred of competence it might have had. Even worse, there is no imperial Loyalist that isn't also cartoonishly evil and/or incompetent, all the competent or moral ambigious ones immedately run into the Rebels' arms (see Kallus and Inferno Squadron) as soon as the opportunity arises. Gone are the days of Gilad Pellaeon, Lorth Needa, Firmus Piett, Mara Jade, and and Maximilian Veers. It's all Captain Slavin and Hux-Wannabes from now on. Weep for the Empire, it has fallen so very low.

@@moriskurth628 imperial Army are still a think, you could see in solo he was fighting with Army troopers, and stormtroopers were few and more elite.

Well firstly what they could've done differently, even if their soliders weren't well equipped for the environments they're in, is use them differently and treat them differently. If you treat your soldiers like an asset, an important one, and a brother, they will back you up to the very end. That is how you earn loyalty. And in this case, loyalty would be what wins most of these battles. They might become wars of attriction, but given the resources of the empire, the enemy is likely to surrender first. This would also make most military commanders think about how they use their troops. And in fact it makes much more sense to have a lower casualty rate, as each dead soldier is a lost asset. So insetad of a heavy, "victory" based doctrine, it should be a heavy "casualty" based doctrine. Where casualties actually matter so much, that it forces these commanders to actually think about what they're doing. This way the empire could rule out the worse commanders, and keep the best of the best. In a sense, it would be the oppisite side of the same coin. This time troops are rightly viewed as assets, not to be lost. Therefore, the political pressure would then br cast upon casualty rates instead of victories. And in this way, the empire would have much greater success in areas like mimban. If the empire viewed it that way, I'll gaurntee you they'd have much more victory.

So the stormtrooper is the Guardsman of Star Wars Neat

Basically what I'm hearing is, the empire used entirely ww1 tactics of, "just throw everything at it, it'll be fine." Which is not only typical of a tyrannical government, but just straight sad. The losses of ww1, soldiers only, number over 9 million. Now amplify that across a galaxy wide scale. It's a wonder any humans exist in starwars anymore. It also explains their tactics brilliantly. (As seen in the films.) And why the rebels were able to beat them the way they did.

@@ucitymetalhead fun fact, it was actually the german general staff that were directly responsible for the big mistakes (rushing for moscow, attempting to invade stalingrad, kursk ect.) the early on mistakes that lost germany the war, and in their post war memoires they blamed everything on hitler and their executed colleagues, because dead men cant argue back, but by examining war time records and orders you can *easily* see who's responsible for the mistakes early in the war when it mattered edit: having said that, hitler was very responsible for every single mistake going 1944 onwards as he took more and more direct control, but by 44 the germans had already lost 100%

There are a lot of Aussies who had family members who died due to old school upper English commanders . The level of incompetence shown during WW1 that got our soldiers killed was criminal.

... Are you talking about the Imperial Army or the Storm Trooper Corps... They aren't the same organization or used in the same way/for the same purpose....

This was what made Thrawn so great. He was not afraid of pulling off a tactical retreat, if it was in his best interest. He mentioned as much to Joruus C'baoth. Yes, he risked the Emperor's anger, but after an enemy shredded those that had been sent to replace him. Even Sidious realized that Thrawn was correct and let him do things his way.

All of the reasons given were the same reasons many either left to join or completely abandoned or join the Rebellion.

Its important to remember that the Stormtrooper Corps was essentially the Empires equivalent of the USMC, a light, fast, highly aggresive and well trained expeditionary force that essentially dismlunts from thr Navy and handles the point blank fighting. Stormtroopers didnt make up the bulk of the Infantry in the empire, that was the Imperial Army, which like the US Army cinsists of mainly Heavy infantry and armor battalions designed to land, drive forward into enemy terrotory and secure victory with overwhel.ing firepower and relentless assault. The Stormtroopers were designed and used as a light reaction force. Which is why so badly characterized and memed in the movies. Most of the time theyre shooting at mooks with plot armor. Even Obi Wan commented on the lethality and precision of Storm Troops. They werent as good as the Clones, but theyre better than anything the rebels had besides a few specialized groups, and the empire had those types as well. The nameless faceless canon fodder stereotype of clowns who cant hid the broadside of a bamtja is honestly.. just misunderstanding because of the three Original movies and all the number of time Luke fucking Skywalker and the other main characters mowed them down because of PLOT. Read the books. Stormtroopers were not cheap shitty exoendable fodder used to zerg rush and overwhelm the enemy. Despite whats depicted when shooting at Plot Armor. The Stormtroopers moved as units, worked as a team, and used precision and aggression to take down their targets. Yeah they took casualties but ANY UNIT no matter how exceptional they are.. will take casualties if the strategy being employed is a frontal assault.. and in many cases rhats all the storm troopers COULD do. Do to thr nature of the Rebel Insurgency and how the rebels fought, forcing the Stormtroopers to have to fight in a manner that benefitted the rebels in tactics. Thats the fault of civil engineers who designed infrastructure with a Brutal Industrial natire. And then again. We see dozens of Jedi get killed by ifiotic and incompetent battle droids which.. again.. were actually not that shit. They were trash compared to a clone, but the clone and their gear cost 10 times what the B1 did. The B2 was far more of a threat and the Droideka and BX commando droid were actually highly dangerous and lethal. The thing we dont get is the context. As far as a front line Marine Corps style fighting force.. the Stormtroopers were highly effective, motivated, and capable. The real weakness of the empire was, as stated.. the Officer Corps. Who didnt give a shit about the guy with a blaster pushing o. The enemy position toc lose and destroy them in close quarters. The first time we see Storm troopers on screen.. is a mew hope. They breached a single man wide door into a fatal funnel, against an enemy that was numerically supperior, had defenses set up (not that well) but they were atleast ready for the breach. Now real world tactics.. if the rebels werent also awe inspiringly stupid too. Would have ben to waste the Troopers breaching by just filling that doorway with nonstop blaster fire in volleys to maintain fire supperiority. But nonetheless, the troopers breached, took a couple of casualties, and then basically 4 of them once entering the hallway... decimated the rebels using the corridor as a defensive ambush. Their accuracy (the Troopers) of you watch the shots fired by both sides and the number of hits factored against the number of casualties.. and its pretty clear the rebels have basically nothing besides some special groups that can go toe to toe with the Stormtroopers. If memory serves. Within 30 seconds of a firefight. The Troopers took 3 casualties, hit 80+% of all their shots fired and took down 14 rebels. The rebels, woth supperior position and mumerical advantage took... 14 casualties. Secured 3 enemy troopers down, and missed 60% of their shots. The rebels fired more, hit less, and took a devastating loss.. before Vader even entered the hallway.. the Troopers had the situation under firm control. Theyre nothing close to the Old Republic Troopers from the sith wars, theyre not as good as the Clones.. but they're better than anything the Republic had post High Republic Era, and absolutely better than anything the new republic or resistance has. The Stormtrooper Corps was the Imperial Army's Elite Infantry (NOT Special Forces like Inferno Squad or whatever) they were the Amry Rangers/ Marines of the Galactic Empire. So i disagree that they were shit, and their effectiveness was questionable. We have video proof thats kot actually the case (ESPECIALLY IF YOU GRASP that Luke and certain Rebels like Han, Leia, and a few others... had PLOT ARMOR) But for the average rebel, sitting in hsi fox hole.. watching the Empire advancing on their position with Storm Trooper squads and supporting armor advancing on them.. hearing the scream of TIE bombers and fighters inbound to soften up their position with air strikes followed by Artillery bombardment knowing that after all that chaos and violence kills many of them.. the survivors are about to see white helmets weilding blaster rifles enter their trenches and fighting positions tossing Thermal Detonators and merciless withering blaster rifle fire... they knew there was no hope.. they were going to diem Stormtroopers just showed up.. in full force to annihlate them. Had to be utterly terrifying knowing you stand zero chance. The. Some 19 year old lands his X wing and jumps out with a plasma sword and some magic and suddenly no trooper can do anything and they all become bumbling morons. Not buying it. Theyre not the best Infantry units the Galaxy had ever seen.. but they do belong of the list of some of the best to have ever been fielded. Even Luke wanted to join the Stormtrooper Corps. Because even he saw them largely how much of the galaxy did. Identical looking brothers who lived, fought. And died for the security and presevation of the Empire and its people. We the AUDIENCE see the incompetence in the Officers corps, we see the Plot Armor of the main characters, and then were dumb enough to think that teanslates to how everything worked No, Stormtroopers in amy quantity operating how the Stormtroopers doctrine showcases them working in books and the comics.. are fucking devastating.

Not sure I agree with most of this. I agree that stormtroopers are regarded as expendable in combat situations. But I don't have any reason to believe that they receive poor medical care. In fact, I would expect the medical care to be quite decent and efficient where they have medical facilities nearby.

Hmmm. If this was the case, how did the Empire have any stormtroopers at all? Moral would have been rock bottom, desertion rates incredibly high, defeats regular (troops aren’t going to be willing to die for a military force that doesn’t seem to care) and supplies of replacements would be outran by sheer attrition

Loyalty. Stormtroopers were indoctrinated as long as it needed that they would happily throw away their lives for the empire, no matter what. Blind loyalty. And in a galaxy with thousands of planets inhabited by millions of humans has more then enough potential resources and soliders.

another point as to why the troopers on hoth were so well equipped. That was VADER'S personal fleet. I have 0 doubt he'd have his troops fitted with the BEST of the BEST equipment for any task he set for them.

I always love these videos. Especially the rethink videos. It would be cool if you did elder scrolls and 40K rethink videos. But anyways keep up the great content.

One thing I always wondered about is where all these psychos sprung up from after the Republic transformed into the Empire. We all knew about Tarkin and his service in the Republic but most other officers seemed like good regular people and they just kinda disappeared.

1) The Imperial Army were the frontline cannon fodder troops, not the Stormtroopers. All the claims made seem to sound like the Imperial Army, not the Stormtrooper Corps. 2) Stormtrooper Equipment was actually good. 3) The Mudtroopers (Imperial Army) on Mimban had worse equipment than the Stormtroopers, not the other way around. 4) Characters such as Beilert Valance (starwars.fandom.com/wiki/Beilert_Valance) were Imperial Infantry who were crippled in battle but rebuilt with cybernetics. Sure he was discharged from service, but it proves that the Empire takes care of their wounded soldiers. 5) There isn't a lot of proof for the claims made, such as artillery striking their own troops.

I've never asked Tarkin to replace them with Clones

"Used strategically" and "Clones" are not concepts that should go together. Commanders at the first battle of Geonosis really just thought it was a good idea to throw Clone Commandos, dedicated infiltration units, at a front line pissing match. They got absolutely butchered by B1s and B2s. Even BX Commando Droids were more suited for front line work than Clone Commandos were.

So what happened to the Stormtroopers after the Empire lost at the Battle of Jakku? How many of them fled to the Unknown Regions and how many chose to stay behind? Also, what will happen if the Rebellion didn't become the New Republic?

i guess with the video being focused on stormtroopers, you did not make any distinction between the army units, like Han was in for simplicity?

The frontlines under Grand Admirals Thrawn’s command would more than likely have the lowest casualties rate.

Don't count Tie Fighters out. We formable in Ground Combat. During Campaign on Tropical Planet trees so dense we can't provide air cover for ground force. Us Tie Fighters have to land and mobilize into ground Combat to fight Rebel Scums. We won the battle

What if the empire continued to use clones as elite troopers in its armies? What if the First and Final Orders used clones? What if the Zann Consortium was in canon? What if the empire used the T-65 X-Wing starfighters? What if the empire continued to use the Venator class star destroyers? What if the death stars were never created by the empire? What if the empire never destroyed Alderaan? What if the empire's star destroyers never had exposed bridges? = but are built deep inside the ships instead. What if the republic had imperial class star destroyers during the clone wars era throughout? What if the Jedi used armour for protection all the time throughout the clone wars era? What if the Jedi also used blasters with their light sabers too? What if Order 65 happened against Sidious instead? What if fives was able to warn the Jedi + Anakin and Rex about the inhibitor chip? / what if Fives survived? What if there were more clones during the war = in the hundreds of millions or billions? = rather than just 6 million or so instead. What if the clones had a cure to their accelerated growth in aging before the clone wars began? = so they could last far longer in service. What if the empire used Eclipse super star destroyers? = instead of death stars. What if the galactic republic never demilitarised during the 1000 years of peace after the new Sith wars? What if the Republic used Republic Troopers = like in the old republic era as elite special force troopers as well? What if the Yuuzhan Vong invaded the galaxy during the imperial era? What if the Mandalorians joined the republic in the fight against the CIS/Separatists? What if Hutts joined the republic in the war against the CIS/Separatists? What if Zerg Swarm invaded the Star Wars galaxy during the clone wars? What if the Zerg Swarm invaded the Star Wars galaxy during the imperial era?

In legends the clones were supplemented by atleast a billion if not billions of cheeper spaarti clones. If its canon tye zerg might pose a serious threat, but in legends the empire, republic and seperatists would mid dif them, and potentially stomp. A cool battle would be zerg vs killiks.

Now this is a set of some very interesting ideas I'd love to see explored.

The Empire despite what everybody thinks was never meant to succeed it was always still a remnant of the Old Republic after the Senate has wiped away the empire was doomed to fail because it was made to Palpatine Sith Empire exigul what's meant to be his true Empire

As someone whos binged legends comics stormtroopers need mercenary grade weapons, and combat suits asap. At the very least start using more focusing coils, and galven circuitry. If it weren't for rebel sabotage, and plot armor they actually would have had some space marine, and spartan equivalents.

The Stormtroopers were pathetic there tactics we're flawed and their Commanders we're complete imbeciles the first order Stormtroopers had better training better gear better tactics and better commanding officers because they 1 minutes to become part of the Sith Empire

where are these thoughts stemmed from? you just watched the films once and gone "oh these stormtrooper fellows are useless and their equipment is terrible"? stormtroopers were the elite and their armour saved lives. if you got information that disproves this then can you provide it, or tell us where to find it? so far all im hearing is "think", "assume" and other nonsence. just because in the films we see stormtroopers predominantly fighting plot armoured characters, doesnt mean they are weak and useless.

Stormtroopers are not cannon fodder. Please stop playing into this. They are a step up from the regular Army and navy troopers. They are called in in large engagements, acting as a well trained vanguard. They can perform special boarding operations or guard key imperial installations. The Army and Navy troopers act as support, and usually are the majority of imperial military troops in any given battle. Stormtroopers are often shipped around from uprising to uprising, meaning they have at least a decent but of experience. Not as much as clones. Stormtroopers recieve great training, better than almost all other soldiers in galaxy at the time. This is what made them so feared. Yes, they were feared. Obviously not as great as clones or mandolorians, but this by no means makes them shit. Not to mention, most Stormtroopers, especially early in the Civil War, were extremely devoted to the Empire. The gear of thr Stormtroopers is quite good as well. There are many sub units and sections of the corp, often sporting unique equipment and armor. Many different blasters and rifles were regualrly used, and most were well liked by their users. They armor was light and mobile, about as much as phase 2 clone armor. But it was less protective. However, there helmets are a considerable step up from their clone counterparts, posessing HUD, friend foe Identificstion, smoke and smog filtration, nightvision, sight through light smoke, comms, and a decent set of ears. As the war went on, the production of armor started outpacing the production of trained stormtroopers. This meant training was rushed, and army units started receiving staromtrooper gear, despite not actually being a stormtrooper. Overall, stormtroopers are a force to be reckoned with, and it is only disney cannon and channels like yours that spread missinformation for no aparent reason.
