The Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Were Originally Unforgiving Killers - Casual Court

Join the Court ► bit.ly/21dLRxz
The Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles grew up an entire generation of fans across movies, television, comic books, and games. What most fans don't realize is that the Turtles didn't start out as the colourful characters we all remember from our childhoods, rather vicious assassins -- trained from birth to kill the shredder.
In this episode we go into the background of the Turtles, their dark origins, and what inspired them to grow up. Enjoy.

Working on it as a plot fill for BAT-MAN to bring justice on a cosmic scale by fusing the multiverse to the origin of it all as seen in CRISIS ON INFINITE EARTHS. It is in fact that very same Caped Crusader doing so... Imagine the red bandana turtles being surviving members of T.G.R.I. as families or survivors of their family demise. They have been well trained by BAT-MAN personally & there are nearly 10,000 of them despite THE FOOT CLAN. Their goal being to personally & discreetly aid in preventing crime globally as BAT-MAN goes about assembling his final suit with the fusion of the lantern core rings each as well as seeking the infinity stones & heart of the universe courtesy of having tapped the Lazarus Pit into a stabilized form & learned forbidden techniques courtesy of Splinter.....the final suit acting as a guardian & sentry as well as what contains the heart of the universe, infinity stones & lantern core as a whole as icing on the cake....not necessarily who is wearing the suit. Knowing his success with the Lazarus Pit & knowledge of the forbidden techniques will eventually result in absolute power whereas the assembly of the suit & subsequent creation of a centralize place of power concerning a harmonious cosmos accomplish the mission. The forbidden techniques & lantern corps as a whole being how he eludes the cosmic order as well as confronts.......it all starts with the entirety of the rogues gallery being missing except for JOKER. 🤫 This is the opening scene by the way..

By just a few issues into the series they've basically become crime fighters who beat up thieves & leave them tied up for the police. They even start doing that to Foot Clan Ninjas after they kill Shredder for the 2nd time because leaving them humiliated is worse than death.

I feel like Splinter probably trained/entrusted Leo the most for the task. He has the only weapon that could really kill someone easily, plus the mindset for the responsibility of doing so. In the old comics if you read them, there are still distinct personality traits. But yea, they were trained to fight and kill, just like our marines etc. The main difference is they were fighting human ninjas . not robots like the cartoon. Leonardo stabs the shit out of them robots in some of the episodes, its awesome. But they took Mikey's numbchucks away. stupid.

Donnie definitely uses a wooden bo staff and they typically weigh 1 - 4 lbs at most. We knows it's wooden because he breaks it over a Triceraton's head then stabs him with the jagged piece, so we know that Leo and Raph's weapons definitely weigh more collectively if not individually. Additionally in the original Mirage comics we usually see that Raph like's to lift weights in his downtime while Donnie is seen tinkering or reading. The joke of the original comic was that a group of trained killers going through gritty and action packed fights and adventures were called teenage mutant ninja turtles. The genuinely introspective and heartfelt moments make the concept funnier. It's why the creators, Peter Laird in particular, had reservations about the 1987 show, it missed the point and went all the way into the corny.

I've been envisioning a proper TMNT film that is a _hard_ PG-13 to R rated parody of both the Marvel MCU (especially the Netflix series for obvious reasons) as well as the post-9/11 trend towards gritty, more realistic action films and fight sequences, a la Jason Borne, John Wick, The Equalizer, The Raid, even The Dark Knight Trilogy to a certain extent. With their mutant origins, one could also easily fit in an anti-corporate, environmentalist message as well (think Standing Rock). Could also work in Black/Blue Lives Matter issues as well, with it being set in New York. Done well, such a parody/satire, in the form of the Ninja Turtles, could be an amazing capstone to these current trends in society and film...

I still own my 1984 replica, since I bought the comic in 1988. Therefore, not an original print. Just to be clear. My Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles #1 in black and white comic book. As for determining which iteration on the silver screen was the BEST? Definitely the 1990 Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles film. Based on the 1984 original comic. It had the best story, the turtles looked great thanks mostly to Jim Henson, and the fight choreography was superb. As opposed to the shit that came after. And don't get me started on Michael Bay's turtles. Fuck that guy. The 1990 film was great. It wasn't perfect. But it was great. I own the Blu-ray and watch it at least once a year.

I’d like a live action or animated series on Paramount+ where the Turtles are grittier. It doesn’t need to be overly adult oriented. Just have it at least as dark as the 1990 film, a little more blood, maybe an occasional f-bomb, make Shredder scary. The turtles’ portrayal can still be their normal selves. Give it the atmospheric mix of an underground hip-hop and grunge rock music video.
