The funny thing is that these easter eggs are plausible in the context of the story. A employee at IAN could have just decided to work all the secret rooms into the simulation. And he may have been a Minecraft and Portal fan and wanted to preserve these particular parts of human culture. And where else would one find the cat if not in the egyptian world...

Oxycominum i thought so too, but what about the time constraint? Everyone is pushing themselves to the end of their sanity just to finish the project, do you really think they'd have time for easter eggs?

They also stated they used a video game engine as the base for the Talos Process, so couple that with all the archive data about human culture, video game history and culture being a part of which, and maybe that's enough for such "easter eggs" to appear by themselves as some sort of remnants.

I get how the cat in the simulation is plausible, but how is the cat at the end of the game plausible? The first cat was in the simulation, but the end of the game takes place in the real world. I get how the AI was transferred from the simulation into a real-world robot, but where did the real, physical cat come from? Is the cat a robot, too? Was the simulated cat downloaded into a robotic cat?

Old Man Murray was a satirical game blog thing. They interviewed Croteam's Roman Ribaric about Serious Sam. Look for it on Google, the whole interview is very funny and pretty much launched Croteam's success. Old Man Murray also had an article where games were rated based on their "Start to Crate", satirizing the lack of imagination in games of the era. Here's the relevant quote from the interview regarding crates: "Erik: Hmmm. Water planet, Ice planet, Lava planet, and Cyber planet. Maybe we should drop this subject. Do you plan on having any crates in the final game? Roman: If I got this crate word, you mean vehicles. Yes, we plan to have space crate in last game section where you aproach Sirius city and the Mental's palace. Erik: It warms my heart that you don't know what crates are."

the crowbar I would assume is an easter egg in itself to half life, as Gordon Freeman uses that as his melee weapon

That is correct. the Crowbar is referencing Gordon Freeman from Half Life and others are referencing other games like the companion cube from Portal/Portal 2.

Not boxes, crates. Croteam had some inside joke in Serious Sam the second Encounter involving lots of crates

I think that is to help you find it. So when you find the room you don't think, "Oh a room of boxes how quaint" then leave.

If you get the cat, do you still get the MLA ending as well? Or does the cat cancel it out.

Doesn't matter which ending you get, as long as you free the cat, you'll unlock the extra scene where the AI is holding the cat like in the main box art of the game.

man oh man, i spent so much time trying to find out what to do with the crowbar, i was just looking for a little hint... and now in a goddamn minute it all spoiled over, now i'm gonna take down from the goddamn tower and save the goddamn cat!

Minecraft, Portal, The Umbrella Logo on the other look-alike crate should be from Biohazard but not too sure since the Logo color is different, the box the cat was in is from Serious Sam, and the DHL Crate with Sun Logo seems familiar but I can't remember where I've seen it... the UCA 3 Crate has a Pacman drawn to it... And there's also the box from Talos Principle itself...

me too. now i wonder.. if i stop climbing the skytower of wonders in the midair and get back for a cat, am i to be punished by the ai-god, or just promoted by wwf?
