I was sexually abused as a young child by an older boy, and I blocked out the memory. I found this memory after I had sex at 18. I'm glad that you don't let yourself be a victim. I relate to the fact that we're multiple people separated by time. I did things as a teenager for which I can't comprehend my younger motives as an adult. I know I had the motives, but I can't relate to them. We are multiple people through different times. This was my favorite thing that you said in the interview. We learn from experiences, and we adapt into different versions of ourselves. PS: Great emotional movie! I had a good cry of compassion. The use of the body double was obvious, and it made the movie palatable.

Just her trying to think of memory is great because people tend to block certain parts of the past out. It’s a defense mechanism.

I wish they talked about the child Isabelle Nélisse’s amazing performance, she is a very good actress, it’s such a difficult role, Laura Dern is good indeed but without this child’s performance it wouldn’t have been so good. I’m also very proud of her because she is a French Canadian from Montreal!

This movie is a game changer on multiple levels, but most of all it speaks to the therapeutic power of opening up through storytelling

My husband and I both went through our own sexual abuse as children. But again when I was 17, I denied I was being manipulated by a 40-ish man. This movie mirrored it so closely, except he knew I was vulnerable because we met at a hospital after a suicide event. Once I learned I was being manipulated, it hit me completely, and I lost so much in an instant. My parents were there for me in many ways, including writing the man and telling him to leave me alone! I'm so grateful to them. They're both gone now, and I'm 57, but I'm always being observant to try to catch a child being harmed. In fact, I took in a girl once whose mother couldn't afford a babysitter and was always neglecting her. I don't know anything now, as we moved when she was 11 or 12. I'M SO GLAD THAT SHE FINALLY ADMITTED THAT IT WAS TED NASH! I certainly hope that other ladies come forward now!

I wish we knew who the actual Bill was. I would love to see him get caught and sent to prison. True justice

Such a powerful (and extremely difficult to watch) film. The sad truth is just how more common the subject matter of the film is in the world. In the off chance that this comment is seen by anyone who worked on this film, or if it finds anyone who’s been impacted by similar subject matter in their own lives…I just want to say THANK YOU. Thank you Jenny for your vulnerability, for your truth, and for having the courage to do what I am certain was one of the most difficult things for you to do by way of sharing your story.

Beautiful person and very wise voice. 'The Tale' should be obligatory to watch for every person in the world.

I was 15 when it happened to me, and it took me about 10 years to realize that I was a victim. Your mother is a great person despite the fact that she failed to protect you from it, because she admits her failure and she was there with you on your journey to come to terms with it. I don't think I can do the same thing with my mother even though I love her.

It's a pity that the perpetrator(s) can no longer be brought to court. There is no excuse for starting a sexual relationship with a child even when he or she is not against it at the time.

A very important topic to discuss. The way the story was told in the film is very interesting, incredibly emotional and unfortunately relatable. I really enjoyed this interview. As the interviewer said, a lot of questions (in my case restlessness) arose after watching it. Thank you

She made a game changer

I just saw this film on French Tv (Arte) and I must say it was really really well made and important with an incredible cast. A step forward to understand the grey areas in sexual abuse situation. Very well written also.

Amazing tale. The way you show hoy memories work is just genius. I´ve been working on my own memories and this was just my conclusion. This is something amazing to share y enlight people. Love and admiration from Argentina!

I am seriously thinking that Mrs. G had been assaulted herself as a child and was willing to be this man's pimp and partner in committing sexual acts upon young girls. The 19 year old may also have been abused by this male. She was being used by the offender to participate in these sexual crimes against her and others. The self worth of these 2 females were diminished. It is great this lady is now communicating her experience.

Obviously then "Bill" has not faced the weight of the law for his actions. I wonder then if the scene in the movie where she confronts Bill publicly is a factual representation of a real event? You'd hope so as even though he's not faced the law for his actions you would hope that, at very least, the people close to him all know the truth and the fact that this film is about the person they thought they knew or, a little more unnerving, colluded with. Because, otherwise, he may still be abusing to this day and that would be unacceptable. I hope hints and actions and have been made that prevent this "man" from abusing if he's not to be held legally responsible

The last woman, who asked the question (comment) about not understanding the denial at the beginning must either be a bit slow, or was taking a nap throughout the film. Her question should have simply been, "Should I watch a second time, because I seem to have missed the point completely." -- This drives me nuts when people ask such dumb questions.

There are still those who don't understand how rape, sexual abuse and domestic abuse happens. Women and men still will not report because they feel they'll not be heard and believed. Don't put down the questions.

I wish they had thought to use lavalier microphones instead of the big cumbersome hand held mics with trailing cables and turned their chairs in a little to face one another. It made the interview look awkward and lack intimacy. The film was well acted.

so the real bill fucking cried? said ''dont leave me'' to a 13 year old girl??? so bill thought he loved her ? wth

My "Bill" was an obsessive man, I believe he loved me in his sick mind, or something like that they make themselves believe they are good people so they can do these things. So I get it. My Bill was a school teacher.

There are many MANY Bill's in the world today. Though I havn't yet watched this film - but will if I can find how to view it! My Bill pass on much shame in his behaviour and disrespect of the female gender.
