Synopsis
Both highly suspenseful and deeply emotional, ROOM is a unique and unexpectedly tender exploration of the boundless love between a mother and her child under the most harrowing of circumstances.
ROOM tells the extraordinary story of Jack (Jacob Tremblay in a breakout performance), a spirited 5 year-old who is looked after by his loving and devoted Ma (Brie Larson, SHORT TERM 12, TRAINWRECK). Like any good mother, Ma dedicates herself to keeping Jack happy and safe, nurturing him with warmth and love and doing typical things like playing games and telling stories. Their life, however, is anything but typical-they are trapped-confined to a windowless, 10-by-10-foot space, which Ma has euphemistically named “Room.” Ma has created a whole universe for Jack within Room, and she will stop at nothing to ensure that, even in this treacherous environment, Jack is able to live a complete and fulfilling life. But as Jack’s curiosity about their situation grows, and Ma’s resilience reaches its breaking point, they enact a risky plan to escape, ultimately bringing them face-to-face with what may turn out to be the scariest thing yet: the real world. ROOM also stars three-time Academy Award® nominee Joan Allen and Academy Award® nominee William H. Macy.
At once a taut narrative of captivity and freedom, an imaginative trip into the wonders of childhood, and a profound portrait of a family’s bonds and fortitude, ROOM is a beautifully transcendent experience based on the award-winning global bestseller by Emma Donoghue. Director Lenny Abrahamson (FRANK) remains faithful to the novel while bringing Jack, Ma and their entirely singular world to heart-pounding and intensely cinematic life. ROOM demonstrates the triumphant power of familial love even in the darkest of circumstances, and is sure to take its place among the most emotionally affecting films to ever explore the bond between parents and children.

It has been a year and yet I'm still upset that the fact that Jacob Tremblay did not get a Oscar nomination nor did it win Best Picture. This is the best movie of 2015 and to me this is one of the biggest snub in Oscar history.

Since when was the Oscars about talent and quality? A high amount of Oscar awarded movies are actually quite mediocre, what matters is what the audience thinks, and the audience loved this movie.

Watch "The Champ" from 1979 (Around there, forget year). I'd have to say best kid actor of all time there, worth the watch. Movie really gets you by the guts the whole way, and the fact it's based off the real lives of Irish immigrants in the US,, like this was based off real kidnapping victims, makes it hit harder like Room does.

From Brie's interviews, I got the impression that she is an introvert who is not very comfortable in front of cameras - she has to put on an act instead of being able to relax. But when she is around people that she can trust and adore, she is very cute. Not everyone is born to be charming as a superstar and that's totally ok.

It's like with MacKenzie Foy. Despite being ten years old at the time when the final two twilight movies were filmed, she probably didn't understand the story. At 12 she said in an interview that she had only watched the first two films because she was too young to watch the rest of the films. Now she's almost 21 and understands the story fully.

My story is very similar to Jack's, and I want to say: This movie is brilliant, especially the second half, it made me relive my early childhood, it made me Jack, and in my head we were one. My mama was never kidnaped, or pysically locked up, but she was abused, raped, traped by my father. I knew everything, He whiped my Ma with his belt in front of me, we were terified, she tried to protect me, we knew he could kill us, we had no escape. The world he created for us was all I knew. Just like Joy, she escaped when I was five. I remembered how as a child I first walked into my mama's house, I remembered how my toes pressed against the floor as I tried to walk to the stairs, how my first bowl of cerel tasted, the new world that I had to be used to, the people that were so nice to me, my Grand Mother and Grand father, the many toys they gave me, the surrealness that I might never see him again. And how it made me feel. I could relate so much to Jack, you will be surprised by how much a five yrs old could know, could feel, and remember. He spoke and walked liked the little me, I could feel his every emotion, he made me remeber how I felt so many years ago that I have fogotten. The movie is brilliant, I am now speechless.

i had no idea of this movie when i first watched it, i was actually searching for panic room when i found it on netflix, read the description and decided it might be something i might like, i was expecting something dark and focus more on the psychology of the crime itself and focus more on the relationship between the victim and perpetrator, it took by surprise so much to find that more than half the movie focuses on the aftermath, it was excellent, the psychology and performance was eye opening, and shows that with crimes like this movie portrays it’s not always over the minute the crime itself ends. it was incredibly compelling to watch, brie’s performance was outstanding and jacobs too. the cinematography as well was excellent, obviously as a child he is smaller but the way they made the room feel huge for jack but tiny for joy was amazing, and overall in the first half making room feel much larger and genuinely made to look like the twos whole life was in there, but then at the end when they revisit, it looks how it is in reality and shows how tiny it is. an honestly excellent movie

When Jack becomes a teenager, it will be a very rough time in his life. This is because of how Jack will have to learn that Old Nick is his biological father and how he came to be born into such a dreadful situation.

*I don’t what happened because I had saved it in my list on Netflix, but is it now available anymore. Many people have been criticizing Brie Larson, but the reality is: she is a very good actress. She has her own personality and her voice is beautiful. She is very talented. It doesn’t matter whether you agree with her or not, but it is a fact: she is good!*

Room is the best film of 2015 and my favorite film of 2015. Brie Larson gives her best performance as Ma and her and Jacob Tremblay make a believable mother son duo

Does anyone have a link to the scene of the press interview that sends her into the tailspin that winds her up with a stint in mental hospital? The scene where she gets asked about the captors parental rights as the biological father? They kind of just brushed past that bit and I think it went over most viewers’ heads, or they probably thought the interviewer was just being weird or something, but for anyone who’s been face to face with that area of the legal system, that was the one burning question we were left with at the end of the film.
