The taboo surrounding the didgeridoo and women

Музыка

My colleague Brenda Sisane and I were invited by the British Council to Belfast, Northern Ireland to represent South Africa as part of a team of around 30 international delegates to attend Peace And Beyond, a colloquium with a focus on socially engaged creative practice. One of the delegates was Dr Paul Collis, a Barkindji professor and author who works as Director, Indigenous Engagement, in the Faculty of Arts and Design at the University of Canberra, Australia.
Professor Paul inspired us with the deep ancient wisdom of his culture. I humbly asked him to explain to us the context of the Aboriginal traditional custom whereby women do not play the didgeridoo.
