I sit in awe of Sanju Sahai. He’s an INCREDIBLE musician, but also such a humble and patient teacher. What a delight to learn something new from a master at work!

This is brilliant - I love the idea of having a spoken musical alphabet like that! Very clear teaching also.

Sanjujee is a great great tabla player

Sanju Sahai comes from a very prestigious Gharana of musicians particularly rhythm instruments. The fellow is very lucky tho have personal lesson from a Maestro. A wonderful treat for all music lovers.

I absolutely love watching musicians play together in the moment. It's as close to telepathy as we've ever achieved. Amazing Tabla and Viola.

That was a treat!And the Bach-tabla duet was wonderful indeed!

I really loved the sound of the two played together....viola and tabla...tabla is next on my learn to play list

How many instruments do you know now? And any advice on how to pick up a new instrument quickly for the first time?

I used to play the tabla when i was younger.....i got till level four. Anyone who is not exposed to some form of training with musical instrument at early age is missing out . Parents you owe it to your kids to get them trained.

tabla can be played even faster.. 32times the speed of the original kaida.

Sanju is a great guy. He taught me at SOAS.

Brilliant Sanju Sahai is always pure sattva. Only take a look at his actions, he never makes false, or unconfident movements

I find Sanju Sahai's playing to be utterly captivating.

Sanju Sahai is a great tabla player, who has inherited the ancient tradition of Banaras Gharana.... (located in Varanasi).

This is inspiring -- a wonderful addition to that Bach piece

Absolutely fascinating! And the ending with the marriage of Bach to tabla. Brilliant!

This so melodious created by three totally different musical instruments combined. I could never imagine Bach with tabla and tanpura...holy moly. This is amazing.

Both musicians' expressions while playing their instrument is really really magnificent and of topest notch

This is just brilliant. Its so great to see Eastern and Western music, in it's classical forms coming together, being fused, being in harmony and at one with each other. This was incredible to watch !! Loved it, thank you !!

You don't have to see the fingers He plays Teen Taal in the first And during the duet he played KEHERWA which is 8 beats and devided 4/4 You have to just learn the technical terms of Tabla Tabla have 360 TAAL's in Indian classical music he played one of them.

It's important that in this context the member of the orchestra is really keen to learn something new, and it was not deemed essential that we use a percussionist in this context. Oh it was just really funny to see the violinist tens up his joints and fingers to play the Tabla! I am a percussionist and it just brought back lots of nostalgia when I first played the bongo drums, tensing up with full concentration! XD

I was very worried about the prospect of listening to Bach with Tabla accompaniment but, when it all began it was only but a sigh of relief. Even the drone of the tambura fits in quite nicely. I mischievously wonder if it would have been the same had not been Bach but something atonal like a Schoenberg. European 'dhun'-like melody with Indian percussion... sounded a lot like Dikshitar-esque 'nottuswaras'.

While a violist is not a percussionist, Kramers' apparent knack for remembering a pattern without having to walk through it several times really helps the pacing of the video. And Sanju Sahai seems to be both an impressive player and a very good teacher.

Bach certainly does sound great with tabla! The piece that Gijs and Sanju perform is the 5th movement, 'Bourrée', from Bach's Suite for Cello No. 4 in E flat (BWV1010).
