Hey Karolina - the 'detective' ducks are actually dressed as stockmen - Australian cowboys. They're wearing Drizabone waterproof coats and Akubra hats, which is the super traditional stockmen look. Hence the western/country style vibe.

That's impressive considering that their respiratory system is way more spread out than a mammals. That said, if the bird really did faint, it probably inhaled something it shouldn't have - they process air faster than mammals to support flight, but are way more vulnerable to inhaled toxins as a result. Edit - I did get the joke, it occurred to me that the tone wasn't clear on that. I'm a pre-vet student, so I jump at the chance to spout animal medical trivia... ^_^"

As a resident Australian and Sydneysider, I feel it is my duty to confirm that the duck fashion show is in fact real, and does happen as part of the Sydney Royal Easter Show. As 2022 is the Easter Show's 200th anniversary, we also had the British royal princess Anne officially "open" the show on Saturday the 9th of April. I don't know whether Princess Anne actually saw the duck fashion show, but I heard she spent almost 8 HOURS walking around the show and having a wonderful time looking at all the exhibits..... so she very easily may have seen some very fashionable ducks as part of her tour.

The fact that ducks impress Karolina more with how accurate their fashions are more than humans ever could is something else.

A comment on the dog: He's basically the usher for the event, firmly encouraging ducks who get too caught up chatting with their buddies that they are actually supposed to continue down the promenade.

I can confirm that the ducks are continuing with their fashion! They are scheduled for the 2022 Royal Easter Show. They went on hiatus because of COVID but they are back ❤️ I have seen them at the Brisbane EKKA as well. They are beautiful

Here I am, watching a nuanced review of historic duck fashion. Just another Tuesday.

I remember this! I live in Sydney (have my whole life) and I remember watching the duck fashion show at least once when I was younger. 100% as brilliant in person as you'd think. Edit: I remember the dog too! Such a sweetheart who was basically the stage manager (herding ducks along the runway and backstage). Also, can confirm, the ducks weren't scared of him at all. Seriously, this video is unlocking memories I didn't know I still had.

I watched this with my toddler and he was SO excited to see all the ducks. He yelled "duck" and "quack quack" (two newer words for him) loudly and enthusiastically throughout pretty much the entire video. ...I will be re-watching this later so I can actually hear all your commentary.

Well this is obviously the best fashion show in the entire universe. The daffodil trio is my personal favourite.

Speaking of birds and fashion, a hummingbird's nest can look very like an all-over feathered 1910 ladies' Edwardian hat. About the right size for a duck's head, too!

I hope wherever the duck dude is now, he can somehow see his ducks bringing happiness all over the world.

Someone needs to bring this back! I have chickens, but I picked really fluffy breeds that would probably get too hot. Someone with ducks, please bring this joy to the world. Random but similar tangent: I used to show sheep, and there was a competition where you and the sheep dressed up in wool costumes. It was my favorite part of summer as a kid. yes, summer in wool. I did not care about heat stroke, my sheep was a Pegasus.

I had a really horrible, scary day yesterday where some random dude tried to just let himself into my house (I’m optimistically hoping he genuinely had the wrong house somehow, but it was still very unsettling. Police were called, a report was filed, I’m fine, just very on edge) and I cannot tell you how much I needed this wholesome duck costume content. This whole duck fashion contest is so exactly what the world needs right now. Let’s have less violence, less hate, less war, more ducks, more duck fashion and more of you reviewing it!! 💖

I’m Australian and this sort of quirky stuff used to be very much a part of our culture. Not necessarily dressing up ducks but events like best doggy dressup catwalks etc. (Check out Jeanie Little from the Mike Walsh Show back in the 80’s to 90’s if you can find the program. I’m sure she did a couple of these walks… she was a super cool fashionista and one of my favs.) Haven’t seen or heard of anything like this though for some years and it suddenly struck me that this is the case. I wonder why actually. These little ducks in their outfits looked so cool, I felt the collars and necklines could have had some more imagination in the designs and the fabric wasn’t always right for the era’s inspo. Also Bridgerton simply wasn’t a thing here between 1980 and 2008. So inspo was more likely historical mixed with Lagerfield or such. This was hilarious Karolina and just fabulous fun. Thank you for this cool vibe to liven up the day.

As an Australian I love that we’re known globally for this! I’ve never seen the duck show but have been threatened by ducks like these! Sadly they had no clothes on!
