Glad to have found this video.. I was looking to purchase this previously on launch but had held off because it didn't originally come with the cylinder knob adapter and had compatiblity issues with the stock unit on my lock (round knob). One other person with the same issue removed the knob and put a long M2.5 screw through the lock shaft as a level to make it work but that's an ugly hack. The switchbot makes sense for us here due to new regulations requiring fire rated main doors so fitting an electronic mortise set is technically illegal if you have to cut new holes in the door - the alternative is to replace with a new fire rated door cut for the electronic mortise lockset ~US$700+ at the least for the door. Electronic locksets also need to be certified to be both able to act as firestop and to automatically unlock when detecting high temperatures to ease escape unless there's a manual knob override. Using the switchbot lock would allow us to skirt this since the original lockset is still in place and the door installation will meet regulations - we would just be adding a smart 'hand' to turn the knob.

I managed to pick one up with the keypad touch for £160. I think that was a pre-order price but they are currently doing 20% off although I think that finishes tomorrow. You should try out the keypad as the keypad really adds to it, with NFC card, code and fingerprint unlock methods. I would really like that Home Assistant integration though. Also, thank you for making me spit my drink all over my screen 🤣 I ended up using the device on my rear entrance knob as it was a tighter fit and my GF much prefers that method of entry. I have mine added to home assistant via smartthings integration… I’ve included a guide into that thread about the lock API not working anymore. It is also possible to include it into home assistant using webhooks+api using something like nodered. The main problem with this approach is the 10k api requests per day… Guys from homebridge also added this lock using the api method… it can also be included into HA via homekit integration. ;) I hope in the future switchbot releases a ble api or native homekit suppport! crossing fingers!

Okay I have a question. So the door automatically locks and unlocks depending on what you tell it to do, but you can still use your old key to get into the house. It's not like the smart lock keeps the deadbolt in place regardless of if there's a key. So what is stopping someone from just picking the lock or stealing a key (I know that's less likely but my neighbor somehow had hers stolen or copied) and getting in anyways? Isn't this supposed to keep your home safer than before by not allowing the door to unlock unless you say so? I see nothing stopping anyone from breaking in. I'm genuinely interested in this product and I don't want to buy it and my place still gets broken into

I am looking forward to this being added to Home Assistant and having local control, but I think we will be waiting for Switchbot to make it Homekit compatible before we get that. No you can't always get in with your existing keys from the outside because some locks are so short that the keys sticking from the Inside will block a key sticking in from the outside

If anyone is interested, I made an extension for the Switchbot Lock. It lets you use it on locks that have a recessed knob that the normal part can't reach. Made a video about it here: kzread.info/dash/bejne/lquV09OQfcqToJs.html

6:28 why would you want a feature on the locks app, idealy you shouldnt ever need the app for anything but initial setup and troubleshooting homeassistant, (or whatever hub) should handle all of the control logic for such devices.

@@EverythingSmartHome I was thinking 2 options. Option 1 - replacing the handles (both inside and out) for a clean and matching install. It could be adjustable to fit different doors etc. Option 2 - which I wouldn’t prefer but would deal with. A device that mounts above or below the handle that latches onto the lock switch (which slides up and down) and locks it that way.

I never understood why companies hadn’t made this. I understand it wouldn’t work for ever door. But MOST sliding doors have 2 screw for the handle and then the shaft for the lock.

Personally I feel this is far too bulky and is not something I would buy. Maybe if you're renting, it might be an option, but I'd still swap out a proper lock and put the original back in if I needed to . The only good option in the UK, for a multipoint lock is the Yale Conexis L1. It's far from perfect, the main problem being it can be finicky to setup, but once that's done it works a treat.

Honestly, I purchased this lock and I have it paired with their smart hub and it just takes so long to connect that I usually manually open the door with my key. The software is really janky and I don't recommend it at all. Other issues arise when my partner is added to the home and sometimes it would not show up on her phone.
