That's a great Idea especially DSP resources are getting better now so I doesn't hurt much to duplicate plugins, I also find this very interesting as it allows you to be really aggressive with the eqs for monitoring for each artist to avoid feedback and some resonant frequency per channel and not per monitoring bus and let the mains breath. Or for example you can do dynamic eq with sidechain for a monitoring track to trick the artist that they are always louder 🤣🤣🤣

You are absolutely right. And tricking the artist to think they are louder is what we do 😅 Even in bigger setups I often have a dedicated channel that’s just for the main artists ears. Just to be able to give them anything they want without breaking anything else.

Great video! Love how it reduces a lot of friction for time-sensitive changes

Yes, for some projects this can be a nice setup. I developed it for a tour where there were a lot of small changes for both foh and iem throughout the show. This can obviously be tailored further.

If you want, you can duplicate a channel post processing. Just insert the D5 on a channel, set the sidechain to the input that you want to duplicate and set the comp source to sidechain. Now you can enable the sidechain listen function. This way you can also get a bus or even matrix back to an input channel.

That’s super smart. Would be a very convenient way if you want the same processing. Thanks for the tip 😀

Wow any phasing or latency issues, I feel like the latency calculations might be an issue ? or It might be dangerous to have a Loop feedback especially with in-ear monitors.

@@abdelilah318Would be interesting to look into the latency calculation with this setup. The loop feedback shouldn’t be an issue though since this essentially is a standard double patch. You just pick the signal up at a later stage. I haven’t tried this yet, so there might be pitfalls I’m not thinking of.

@@abdelilah318 you have to know what you do for sure. You could create a loop if you get a bus as sidechain and send the channel to the same bus.

Cool trick for small channel counts

Yes I find it super easy but powerful. Could obviously be tailored further for different needs. Thanks for watching :)

Never give them more piano before they ask for it, they’ll ask for more anyway.
