The Suzanne Morphew Case: Nothing Is What It Seems | Full Episode

After a mother of two vanishes on Mother’s Day 2020, bizarre clues emerge- a chipmunk alibi, a tranquilizer gun and a spy pen.
(Editor's note: This episode aired on July 1, 2023. The death of 49-year-old Susanne Morphew was officially declared a homicide, according to an autopsy report released on April 29, 2024. This revelation comes two years after prosecutors dropped murder charges against her husband just as he was about to stand trial. Morphew's remains were found during a search on Sept. 22, 2023, and positively identified by the Colorado Bureau of Investigation on Sept. 27, 2023.) "48 Hours" correspondent Peter Van Sant reports. @@agneslong2323Technically, it is possible to remove antlers without killing deer. As you can hear, it is illegal to tranquilize deer and remove their antlers. He did it anyway. Maybe he sawed the antlers off, treated the animals gently, treated the wound adequately and watched over them waking up, sending them off to the woods with a gentle pat and feeling very sorry for the effect it has on them. And how likely is that? You see from the pictures that he also killed, preserved and displayed deer in his home, unless you suggest this is possible without killing them also. I guess you think that he did the honorable thing, and shot those ones straight away? - So I add on top of my statement. "What a swine. Removing antlers in their sleep!"

I find it interesting nothing was said in this video about how much Barry Morphew had to lose in a divorce. As I recall, the home in Colorado was purchased with a downpayment from Suzanne's money (an inheritance if I remember correctly) which would likely be excluded from any community property settlement. Their previous home had not been sold so there was only liability there and no cash from it. Because of the length of their marriage, any monies/assets earned by them after their marriage, including his business, would be divided between them. With him having to pay her the amount of her personal money into the new house and everything else divided, he would have a substantial loss and knew it which is why divorce to him would be "off the table." Do I think he murdered her? Yes, I do. Why? Because he realized he was no longer going to be able to control her. Not only could he not afford it financially, his ego would not allow it. All those trophies are ego assets as were the smiling photos of her with him. That his daughters are defending him means nothing - look at Tammy and Chad Daybell's children defending their father, claiming he was "framed" when the bodies of two dead children were found on his property. Denial by children of a controlling parent means absolutely nothing. While I can understand them not wanting to believe Barry Morphew would hurt their mother, unless they were totally clueless, they had to be aware there were issues. Also, their father has no qualms about killing living things and/or making them suffer - that should be a major clue to them. Only time will tell if the facts can be learned by anyone except Barry Morphew.

His head shaking is a sign of discomfort but it is also very odd that he is shaking his head no while professing his love and saying that he wants her back? Her husband would beat her and cheat on her, he’d leave for days at a time and he wouldn’t even try to hide the fact that he was having sex with random women. @@susiefoxy8130 The quote released was "this creates more questions than answers". That has me thinking that the location of her remains does not jive with the GPS data from Barry's truck. That data was going to be huge if she was discovered somewhere near where the investigators "predicted". Remains were found about 45 minutes south of their home, so they may have to restart from scratch to figure out how she got there (assuming her body wasn't moved more than once). I'm not defending him or professing innocence, just saying they didn't seem stoked about the investigation in the quote they released.
