Yes. I had the opportunity to tour a large State government office and was shown a supervisory internet server. I was astounded by how many people there were on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Tic Tok etc... and not really doing any work. I thought I was looking at a break period. Until I saw a graph that showed people actually got off their computers to go chat with other co-workers during their regular break times. Working for the government or any taxpayer funded job should mean that you waive the right to hide behind privacy laws when the taxpayer has more of a right to see their money not going to waste.

Did I just witness, 1984 happening right there ?

they're not using this to track you down for jay-walking. (that's is China, orwellian) . These guys are trying to solve murders in a terribly run, brutally violent city

Is this even legal

No privacy issues aren't what citizens are afraid of they are concerned about abuses. Human nature and police not being perfect in every case have tools for abuse depending on the individual. Transparency in needed.

Camera are already in everyone’s houses. If u have a phone or smart tv your being spied on. It’s just the facts. If u have Wi-Fi then they can see where your at which room and what your doing. All by using Wi-Fi signals.

Are you really that beat in the head, you should go around and personally suck the virus out of people and cure them, you'd be a special little hero.

Red light cameras,speed cameras, surveillance drones, cameras on every corner, license plate scanners, facial recognition cameras...this is not what America is about and justifying the intrusive police state because of criminals is nonsense.

Ross McNutt pleads to emotions, rather than actually debate the individual's right to privacy. Hopefully, this kind of intrusive surveillance will never take off on a big scale. He talks about there being CCTV cameras everywhere - which many people find intrusive - but doesn't care to mention where the acceptable line is.

The reason McNutt doesn't "debate" the individual's "right to privacy" is because no individual has a "right to privacy" in what they expose publicly, which their vehicles and movements are. If this equipment were tracking them in an area where they DID have a right to privacy, then it would obviously be wrong. But, it doesn't. So, there is literally no debate. What the ACLU argues in the "slippery slope" fallacy. They have no choice but to admit that the technology isn't, in itself, actually unconstitutional, so they argue about potential abuses that COULD in THEORY happen with the technology, such as tracking people who attend certain political events, etc... The key is not to throw the baby out with the bathwater, but to sanction the misuse of the tech and put controls in place so it is only used to solve actual crimes. Pretty easy.

Space Monkey the drone is cheaper to fly in quantity which is what CBP needs. Flying a two person crew which one needs to be type rated for an aircraft not known for its flying distances in the amount needed to cover the entire borer is much more expensive. Plus CBP already has an analysis staff. They also have better cameras than what this company is using.

@@Unknown_Ooh lol, MQ1 lens is not as big as their cameras. They have multiple lens in their camera system. You need more MQ1 to cover the same area or fly higher. Flying higher = cost + clouds interference. It's not about the quality of the zoom, it's the coverage of the lens. Flying in quantity = costlier than flying a single Cesna. MQ1 is a 2 crews aircraft.

At his operating costs he hasnt even considered that there are many private individuals who would pay for his service all year myself included. 2m usd per year to keep a cessna up and a handful of technicians. So long as all licensing is taken care of. It would be worth looking into upgrading the optics. There are a few new companies offering real time video analysis that could be utilized for all sorts of fun. Maybe stream the footage to them too and see about using AI. Personally I am against anyone having this but if it is legal for a private citizen to do then its better to be the shark than the minnow ey

I believe we need this for this purpose, it can be really usefull for crime solving... But what I also believe is that another big crime is hapenning here when I see that someone payed 2million dollars just to make this run for a year... with the tecnologie we have this days we can put 20 people getting payed 5k dolars per month making the surveillance and still spend less then 2million per year and be way more efficient...

The good outweighs the bad. We should use this technology for a safer world. Like angels watching mankind under the sun, with wings tied. Faithless people cry out "where's God in all this"? He gives US the technology and we KNOWINGLY do NOTHING with it. Evil pays! The blood is on our hands because we knew but did nothing. Tragic, beautiful sacrifices, we willingly become. We saw and did nothing.

I would rather be safe and be recorded. If you have nothing to hide then it shouldn't bother you. If you have something to hide, you should worry, and I like that.

invasion of privacy my ass. This is a great law enforcement tool. It could solve probably 70% of reported crime easily. And it is not even clear enough to even recognize a male versus female, a person is a little speck on the ground. The only thing this surveillance plane is good for is after a reported crime takes place then going back and saying this vehicle went from here to here in this person went from here to there. Then police and detectives are going to have to actually go to those places and find out who they were. So somebody sunbathing in their backyard nude need not be worried about their privacy being invaded because this camera couldn't even tell if their clothes were on or off. this is a ridiculous no one invasion of privacy and a great law enforcement tool. By the way this surveillance system is designed to catch people like a lot of people I know, of course not myself or any petty stuff I do. so people like people I know we are the ones that should be worried and are not. I would like to see the drug dealers, rapists, murderers locked up. and I don't like the idea of having a crystal-clear police camera on every telephone pole. something like this system is perfect
