Seen a mink rolling down a dirt road like a wheel one time. Took a little bit to understand what I was seeing. It had ahold of a rabbit and only way for it to carry it as to hug it and roll like a wheel. Only time I’ve seen it happen.

I can't understand how cruel and heartless someone has to be to try and intentionally run any animals over💔😭

I couldn't imagine Danielle doing something she knew is injurious or traumatizing to animals but if it shows us how to get them off a road safely then maybe a little fear will keep them from cars. Don't know, he just looked annoyed to me.

I had to once, found the poor thing near the road and was gonna move it closer to a lake but someone had already hurt it and i could see its insides plus the spinal damage would have paralyzed its back legs. Didn't have any other quick way to put it down with me and with an injury like that i didn't want to waste time and run home for something. I always try to save them and have even been late for some important things before since i stop to help turtles off the road.

@@borttorbbq2556 Not in most of the United States. The people who deliberately run them and other turtles over are weak losers trying to make themselves feel strong.

I found one of these once on a small road during a rainstorm. Poor thing's shell had already been cracked by a car running it over. I actually took it home and was able to nurse it back to health. It loved eating goldfish, which I had for another pet. Then released it in a lake that I knew to be full of its fellow snappers. It was actually quite friendly. It escaped while I had it at home and woke up to find it had crawled into my bed with me haha!.

Imagine being so bad at parenting that you resort to killing everything you failed to educate or watch your kids around (: Not like these turtles are out on the prowl for fingers 😂

Near where I live they built a turtle fence on the highway where it passes through the river flats. It has protected a lot of turtles.

A real unfortunate part about roads is that not just snappers, but most turtles in general also will try to bask on the road. In which case even if you help move them from the road, they'll head right back to bask. I've moved a few snappers and maps in my home town only to realize that they were trying to bask and wouldn't stop trying to get back on the road.

had a couple do that near the pond on my grandfather's property, fortunately there was a loose slab of sandstone me and a friend could manage and we put it at the edge of the pond for a basking spot.

I didn't know that such horrible people exist as the ones at 4:50. Shows how many psychopaths there are in the world.

When I was a little kid, maybe 3 or 4, I found one of these in our creek and thought it was just another turtle so I brought it home... My mom freaked out a little and my dad was actually quite impressed that I had managed to properly handle the thing. I named it Spike then we let it go. I had know idea how close I probably was to loosing some fingers till I was much older.

ha ha, yea when I was a kid I found a salamander near a stream, proudly took it to my mom to show her....only problem this "salamander" didn't have legs. :-) how was I to know salamanders always have to legs, otherwise they are just snakes.

I ❤ turtles. It's so sad that people intentionally try to kill them, especially snappers. So misunderstood. I have a 1 year old snapper and he's actually very sweet and tolerates petting of his shell and feet. I hope he stays that way. He's only snapped at me when he mistakes my finger for food

I hunt for sustenance from time to time, but I could never condone killing for sport. If you kill an animal to eat it, it's hunting. If you kill an animal because you can, it's killing. There's a huge difference. Running over an innocent turtle because you can makes you a cold blooded killer in my book.

These turtles are so awesome and powerful, reminisent of the armored giants millions of years ago. And they must be protected for the environment, and so future generations can marvel at them.

I found a small one crossing the road and I helped him out. He didn't snap though thankfully.

I can't put into words how sad I am to know that there are despicable human beings who run over turtles on purpose

@@Lizzymorasco4382Yes there are. I’ve seen it happen. I’ve heard people brag about it. It’s not just turtles. Anything that won’t wreck some asshole’s truck is fair game. It’s awful.

Honestly the best part about this is showing off some of the local faces behind the efforts to help the wildlife. Would love to see more snap shots of the work local wildlife management/park rangers since they could sure use some publicity for their efforts. Even if 60% of the job is mowing grass and moving fallen trees.

I love the support! I work at scales nature park and we actually conduct tons of research on multiple turtle and snake species. In the active season we're outside everyday surveying wetlands to gather population and morphometric data. All of our data goes to helping improve protection measures for these at risk species!

One day as I was gardening, a regular non-snapping adult turtle charged at me. I must have offended it somehow but I don't know how, it was on the other side of the garden. It came at me at the terrifying speed of about 6 - 7km/h. To this day I still consider myself lucky to be alive! 😳

It was probably working for the local lizard king. Next time just hit it on the back, it'll pop into its shell. Then you can kick it away easily. Careful it doesn't bounce off something and come spinning back at you though. Helps if you're dressed like a plumber.

@@quarkonium3795 I didn't escape of course I was frozen in terror. It stopped right in front of my foot and walked away, probably thought I was a statue. Looking back at this story it looks like a joke but it really happened. Mad turtle locked on me from 20 meters away and came at me at a fast walking pace for humans. They loved eating flowers like salad and probably had eggs buried under some plant, I have no idea.

Snapping turtles are genuinely one of my favorites. Yes common snappers can live up to 150 years, but Alligator snappers can live up to 2, or even 250! And I've seen some OLD boys on my property.

They're wonderfully smart and interactive, too! I used to work with these guys at zoos in education programs, and they're wonderful little things, and an incredibly important species in their species in their environment. I can't understand people who would intentionally run them over. To know people are that cruel, even after we invade their space, is horrific.

A boy brought a much smaller snapping turtle to class once when I was in elementary school. He had it in an ice cream bucket that it managed to tip over from the inside and escape. Took a few minutes for the boy to realize this, too. When he did, the class *exploded.* All the girls were up on their desks screaming while all the boys were on their hands and knees trying to find the turtle. I, meanwhile, stayed in my seat and enjoyed the show.

If I ever saw someone "turtle popping", which I didn't know had a name, I think I would cry in rage and sadness. I know I'd want to do some human popping

I picked one out of the road a few years ago... I knew about not getting too close to the front, but had no idea about the peeing... anyway, I got him out of the road and I got wet.

Turtles are definitely in my top-five list of favorite animals. They're so diverse and all of them are incredibly well adapted to thrive. Any animal that can trace their direct lineage past any of the mass-extinction events has my favor.

So cool to see a full video on these snappy bois after watching the shorts for weeks. Thanks Animalogic!

I live in Kentucky so I have seen a lot of snapping turtles. I can remember once I was driving down a country road and see one. I found a place to pull over. By the time I had got back to the turtle someone had already ran him over. Only one car past me since I seen the turtle. The car was driving the same way I was and the turtle was on the other side of the road. The guy had drove on to the opposite side of the road just to run that turtle over. I was totally shocked.

Thank you. I do encounter these where I live and see them on the road sometimes, particularly if there's been some flooding. I did move one across the road once but it was pretty young and only about the size of a box turtle.

I helped a couple of Australian eastern snake necked turtles cross the road one summer and they peed all over me!

There is nothing more peaceful than watching a huge, algae covered snapper swim around a lake while you’re fishing off a dock

I remember my parents finding one of these when they drained the pond in our yard. One got it to bite at a shovel and the other picked it up from behind and they took it to the shore of a river across the street from us. The sound of the snap on the shovel was so loud, like a gunshot almost. Certainly made me never want to approach one from the front.

It is nice how you look so much happier in the wild. You should make more videos out of the studio

The part where she's talking and the turtle walks away like "can you just shut up already" was pretty funny.

I've had a couple of interactions with Snapping Turtles in the last few years and I've found them to be intelligent and aware as well as non-aggressive. They were both in awkward situations and needed some assistance. I was able to pick them up and move them to a better location without them showing any aggression or fear. They seem to be aware that I was trying to help them and remained calm.

Reptiles in general dont get enough credit, because they are less advanced they are highly goal/food oriented but they will do creative stuff if they notice a pattern

I read that common snapping turtles can live to be over 200 yrs old. They return to the exact same nesting site every time they lay eggs, so new construction projects in or near wetlands and rivers interrupt their ability to return to their nesting site.

I get so sad when I see evidence that people intentionally hit wild animals trying to cross the road. It’s such a spiteful cruel thing to do.

Turtle-popping is also a really bad idea because of the risk of damage to your vehicle. They're like a 6" high speed-bump. It can crack a car's front facia or rocker panel, not to mention the impact on your car's front suspension.

Very rare to see a snapping turtle that doesn't look angry. Titanic looks like he's just chilling, until he "activates his first line of defense."

I used to see gigantic snapping turtles where I grew up, but I haven't seen them as much lately. I always moved them out of the road by lifting the middle of the shell where neither set of legs can reach you.

With a name like that, the turle should seriously look out for icebergs...

Yeah, when I helped a decent sized snapper up here in northern Ontario cross a city road back to the park, it definitely introduced me to the urination defense mechanism. I had always heard you were supposed to lift from the bottom of the shell, as well, so I was easily within the splash zone and got a couple scrapes from its hind claws. Overall 10/10, would help my turtle bro again, pee and all.

Ok so now I know I was right about the one I "met" today.

I think there is nothing cooler than being a lone snapping turtle. Except at snapping turtle picnics, when you don’t have a partner for the snappy wheel barrow race.

Titanic is an exceptionally chill snapping turtle. I've rescued many from the middle of the road, and not one has ever shown anything but ire, let alone gratitude 🤣I'll never stop doing it though.

Had to help one across the street a few years ago. Wasn’t aware of this method but was glad that it was passive enough to let me keep all my digits.

Every year I get a couple move into my pond. Sometimes I find them on the grass and I watch them but they seem in no hurry to get back in the pond. Fascinating creatures.

Peeing is my 3 year old's defense mechanism too.

I use to have a pet Musk turtle. They are kind of like miniature snapping turtles. Watching this made me miss my boy. 🍺

I saved a 50+ pounder last year that was walking across the road. I was surprised at how flexible they are and how long the neck can get. Where i grabbed was safe from the face luckily but his hind claws nicked me a couple times and i still have the scars but it was worth it

I have caught one these before, and so far, nothing else that I've caught has beat it in coolness

We live between 2 ponds and see snapping turtles about that size and painted turtles come down the road. We've watched them lay eggs. Usually we see the nests dug up a few months later by a coyote or some other hungry critter. I hope some nests make it.

I got 'snapped' by a small one once, when I was about 10 years old. Fortunately there was a bone in my fingertip that stopped it. I actually had to shake it off my finger. My finger throbbed for the rest of the day. I don't hold a grudge against them tho.

I found one in the road about the size of a dinner platter- I moved him to one side of the road, then as cars went by I realized his habitat was on the other side of the street, so I waited and we crossed again 😂🤦🏼‍♀️ thankfully I knew to hold him near the back! He didn’t pee or hiss or snap, though, so I’m hopeful he understood I was helping him find his way! Once he was on the correct side of the road, he was past the barrier and back under the water before I’d reached my car!

Wish I'd watched this before my family and I found an alligator snapping turtle crossing a road in the boonies of North Carolina! We ended up just gently "kicking" it forward until it was out of danger. It did not appreciate that, obviously, and dang near got a chomp on my dad. But I just could NOT remember how to safely handle them, and we couldn't wait around. (plus no cell service to look it up!) At least we got it across safely, despite making it very angry in the process. Now I know for next time!

Look up True Facts. Don' watch it at three AM though, unless you are alone in bed. I got elbowed one night doing it. Seriously, the channel is fantastic, totally hilarious, and you will learn things about animals.

I was really confused at the start 0:10 - looked like the host was all excited while their coworker was armed with a massive hunting rifle lol

Up here in New England we have some really old turtles, some have been found with civil war Era musket balls within.

When I was a child my mother took my sister and I to the beach, on the way home we saw a sea turtle that had somehow made its way from the beach onto the nearby highway. My mother stopped our mini-van and got out to save it. My sister and I watched (probably with ice cream or some other snack) as my mother went to grab the turtle and save it, but instead a semi truck swerved to run it over and splattered the sea turtle all over the road. That turned out to not be a fun day, people are monsters.

I have a soft spot for turtles when I see them on or near the road. I've pulled over many a time to carry a turtle across the road.

That wheelbarrowing segment was so cute.

My family saw a sanpping turtle walking across a busy road one time. We decided to help it cross, we didn't use the wheelbarrow method, but we used a blanket and slide it across the road.

We have those in our turtle and tortoise museum. They like it when you scrub their shells and the top of their heads with a broom. Never seen one on a road though. Did carry some other tortoises, turtles and terrapins off shared paths before though. And of course I have carried my pet terrapin around. As long as I do it before 8am and after 11am she won't try to bite me.

You can also hold from the base of the front shell above the head and base of the back shell above the tail
