Lizzie Magie was not anti-capitalist; she opposed monopoly privilege. Nor was Henry George anti-capitalist. He believed in the private ownership of tangible, capital goods but argued the case for the community ownership of land.

Ok, what about Albert Einstein, Hellen Keller, Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., Jacque Fresco, R. Buckminster Fuller, Eugene Debs, and the list goes on? Were the anti-capitalist or not? And what if they were anti-capitalist, they have rational, logical reasons to be anti-capitalist since structurally capitalism is unjust, unhealthy and unsustainable. Are we not supposed to expose and criticized flawed systems and expect better?

@@coolioso808 How Lizzie or Henry George would respond is that what was described by Marx and other writers as "capitalism" was in reality a system of socio-political arrangements and institutions brought into being by those who held power in order to protect their monopoly privileges. The agrarian landlordism of the pre-industrial era was never replaced; landlordism was extended as agricultural became commercial, as production of goods became the province of large and growing monopolistic enterprises, and as the financial sector similarly evolved. Monopoly is, from this perspective, the primary systemic problem to be eliminated. As access to nature is the birthright of all persons equally, the ideal means of granting individuals access to and control over nature is not by government mandate (i.e. under state socialism) but by competitive bidding for a leasehold interest (i.e., under market forces). So, yes, there is much that needs to be changed if we are to have truly just societies, with just laws justly enforced. What is interesting about most of the critics of the status quo you list above is that they were to some extent influenced by their reading of Henry George's works. Einstein's correspondence indicates that he read George and agreed with many of George's observations and conclusions. King quoted Henry George in his final book. Last year I gave a series of lectures on the history of the exchanges between proponents of Henry George's analysis and those of Marx and other socialists. The lectures are recorded and available on my personal KZread channel if you are interested. Edward Dodson

You didn't actually watch the video. It says. She was a "staunch" anti Californinist....wait... I mean anti capitalist. ( sorry my bad, typo). This lady was a very left communist,(like most them are) her whole goal was to show the " bad ways of capitalism " .... but in which showed the best ways of capitalism by cooperation, free trade, individual negotiations between parties, exempt from tyrannical leftist communist governments. Excessive taxation, and all the other pitfalls of natzi leftist communist people's. Freedom for you from government, Freedom for me from government

It was not about showing the pitfalls of capitalism. It was about showing the detriments of monopolies, especially on land (or natural resources in general). Henry George, who was the original inspiration for Elizabeth Magie, wanted to show how landlords monopolising rent were detrimental both to the productive power of labour AND capital. For him labour and capital were in symbiosis, while the real "dog in the manger" was the landlord monopolist who withheld (or held for ransom) a vital means of production (land) and provided nothing of benefit to society in return. The failure of modern progressives to understand this is mostly because the importance of land (natural resources) in production has been forgotten - partly through the efforts of those interested in defending the institution of landed property.

*Forgive my paragraph structuring or lack there of:* Monopolies are the pitfall of capitalism Magie tried to showcase. Inevitable result of unregulated capitalism is monopolies forming within markets, these monopolies hypothetically would buy each other eventually leading to the collapse of capitalism. Post industrial capitalism is founded upon the idea that competition will lead to innovation, monopolies and monopoly like entities like oligopolies break this system by controlling the majority of a market allows them to profit through undercutting emerging competition as opposed to innovating more than their competitors. Example would be the candy bar industry, the dozens supposedly competing companies are all owned by the 1 or 2 companies, predictably there has been little innovation throughout the candy bar industry and prices have been steadily rising while manufacturing costs have been lowering Regulations on capitalism such "Monopoly Busters" (where companies that control 2% or greater of their respective market are broken into unrelated competing companies) exist to ensure companies are rewarded for innovating as that is the ideal capitalism is founded upon. 2% is an apparent guideline as companies like amazon controls 80% of the eCommerce market

Because the second rule set just puts a twist on taxes in capitalism that would prevent booms and busts and the evergrowing suffering caused by them. Read about Henry George and why his economics book (!) sold millions (!) in 1879 (!). Read about the 18.6 year cycle and you will understand why "The Landlords Game / Monopoly" becoming a symbol for Predatory Capitalism is one of the biggest ironic jokes in human history. It is hidden in plain sight.

Capitalism is slavery on steroids. 1. It forces you to work for food, water and shelter (basic human needs). Tell your kids they can not get food, water or shelter until they get a job and they will lock you up. (Physical Slavery and Mental Slavery) 2. Capitalism also mines you for your creativity then calls it their own. It's called business. Work 50 years for a drug company to cure cancer... Guess what, that's the drug companies cure not yours! (Creative/Mental Slavery) But since you and the rest of us are born into this system we are indoctrinated, programmed. groomed to believe that this is the how life is, this is the best we can do. (Chattel Slavery - Your parents were indoctrinated into the system then you were automatically born a slave by default) So you being happy that "capitalism wins again" is an enslaved human being not realizing that they are enslaved. But that is the point of capitalism. So... yes capitalism wins again
