Two great players Rabah Madjer and Belloumi, both played even in Mexico 86, but never as the summer of 82. Algeria goes to Brazil, but I can't see them as stronger as that magnificent team... By the way they were eliminated by negotiation, between Austria and Germany... a shame of that

I remember the brothers the Algerian national team playing in Damascus in the 80's, Belloumi was there and the pole saved us form a goal by Belloumi, it was so nice to see him playing.

The Germany - Austria was a complete disgrace! As was the officiating in the France v Germany semi-final. Having said that, this situation reminds everyone that you only have your fate in your hands if you win.

The Germany v Austria match was a total disgrace, and while they removed this from potentially happening again by making the final group games being played at same time, what really annoys me is that nobody from FIFA hadn't forseen something like this from happening years earlier, , that it took this disgrace of a match to actually happen before they changed it, , quite how FIFA could not have forseen this collusion, especially when one of the matches involved 2 countries which spoke the same language, is beyond me.

Then, Algeria played like a champion despite the loss...

I remember watching these games. Algeria were robbed. It's the reason the final group games kick off at the same time.

If your opponent starts mocking you before the game, it will work as an extra fuel against them.

I was young too,we too celebrated here in Algiers,it was in Ramadan I guess 16th June 1982,Some people because of their excitment and joy got on the buses roofs to express their happiness and the cops had to make them get off,everybody in Algiers and every corner of our Algeria sweet Algeria were singing and dancing and obviously we took our revenge out of the Germans who were mocking our Algerian national team,an unforgettable and great lesson for any arrogant footballer either German or non German to learn from.123 viva l'Algérie.123 Long Live Algeria.

South Korea have just reminded the Germans of underestimating underdogs, in case they've forgotten.

I am German, and in 1982 I was still a kid. However, I still remember how absurdly arrogant the Germans were before the match. Bundestrainer Jupp Derwall announced that if they didn't beat Algeria, he would walk back to Germany by foot. At least they have learned their lesson and have not underestimated any opponent since then. Having said this, I still don't understand why only Germany are blamed for that infamous "Anschluss" match against Austria. The blame should be Austria's and Austria's alone. You might criticize the German players for their "bite me" attitude, but they had a point. It is often overlooked that for the first ten minutes, Germany pressed very hard and got a fully deserved 1-0 lead. After that, it should have been Austria's job to go for the equalizer. What team on earth would go on the offensive and risk a couter attack in a match they were already winning? It was the Austrians who were all too willing to accept defeat. So they should answer to it. But maybe it was easier and more popular to go after the "ugly German" stereotype ...

Marinus Ladegast The blame is all on Germany because Germany had the talent to beat Austria by more than one goal but they ellected not to do so just to eleminate Algeria particularly, in one of the ugliest unsportsmanlike acts in the history of international soccer. I hated Germany for that and I still do to this day . I have been cheering against Germany ever since.

The West Germany vs Austria match reminds me of Indonesia vs Thailand scandal in 1998. Both teams were playing unfair and wanted to avoid tougher opponents. They should give a disqualification and punishment like Indonesia and Thailand football team in 1998.

There was also a similar situation of England vs Belgium in the 2018 world cup group stage where both teams wanted to lose.
