The Supremes - BEST TV Performances of Each Year (70's Edition)

Музыка

Only performances with LIVE vocals!
1970 - They look stunning! Jean's vocals were on point and those Chandeliers were nice.
1971 - Not a Supremes' song, but this was a flawless performance, the outfits were beautiful and the camera shots were great!
1972 - Great gowns, great coreography. This was the first time people saw their legs since 1968!
1973 - Their best live version of that tune, and that alternate ending was amazing!
1974 - This was the first time they performed this Medley on TV. These gows were one of the most beautiful they ever wore. This is not only their best performance of 1974, but the best performance of this medley!
1975 - No glamorous gowns or instrumental on this one, but the girls provided a beautiful 3 part harmony, taking everybody to the church!
1976 - Not caption needed!
1977 - This was a great collab between Udo and The Supremes. Not the most beautiful gowns, but their vocals made up for it!

Love This! That note that Susaye hits on, "He ain't heavy, he's my brother" is everything!

The seventies producers realize they was a GROUP and brought out what others hid? All their talent. Lynda Lawrence is a blessing

You are so right- the awesome, tight harmonies allowed these talented women to shine TOGETHER. I often imagine how AMAZING the original line-up could have been had all 3 women been allowed to shine. If the Supremes had switched up leads the way the Beatles did it would have been absolutely astonishing!!

I 💘 all Supremes lineups, but Jean,Mary and Cindy were my favorites. As great as Scherrie and Susaye were, the last few years seemed desperate, with usually frantic choreography, and ,costumes and questionable song choices. Bless Mary for keeping on for so long.

We've Only Just Begun is one of my favorite 70's Supremes performances. You can clearly hear how beautiful Cindy Birdsong's voice was. It makes it a shame mics were ever turned down.

I liked and enjoyed all of these performances, but I can't agree that these were their best television performances in the 70s. There are not clips on KZread for some but their performances on the Pearl Bailey Show, David Frost Show, Supersonic, Dinah Show in summer of 76, and the American Bandstand 1975 appearance would all be on my list.

I'll take any of the 70's Supremes line ups any day over the trio with Diana Ross. Susaye, Jean, and Sherrie are Dynamic but drastically underrated singers.

Groups still must learned to get a trusted manager. Wilson ex spouse should never been in charge.

Yes Mary was the anchor throughout the entire Supremes career. She's great on her own now.

Actually the performance of the 1974 medley is the second time they did it on television: in the first appearance on Merv Griffin, the girls are in red gowns. But that green-gown version is the best. Powerhouse performance.

Both versions were done on the Merv Griffin Show. He was a huge supporter of the group in the 70s.

I haven't watched this in quite some time but honestly, I can only imagine how the late Florence Ballard felt having such a great voice then being forced into being a background singer. Ik Cindy Birdsong came in to replace Flo predominantly because of her similar look to Flo although she could sing. Berry missed the mark on the 70s Supremes. All of these powerhouses he had in and out of the group and never put the Motown machine behind them after Diana left the group. Ironically, about 10 years she leaves the company...smh RIP Flo and Mary. Berry paid for that Big ball drop. 70's Supremes Forever! 🎙🎙🎙

And yet this video failed to include the Best new Supremes TV appearance of them singing "Bad Weather" on Soul Train. The girls wore Jean, Mary and Lynda wore these pink pants suits and absolutely left a 'wet spot' on the TV screen.

It was a great one. I remember as the one that MADE ME SEEK OUT the single, in spite of it being hard to find in stores at that time... The live performance was so much better than the actual record, in my opinion. Also, the performance of BAD WEATHER on The Kate Smith Special was pretty special also.
