People need to understand the extreme double standard here. I worked closely with officials at the NY Fed and US Treasury and they were under extreme ethical guidelines and limitations. They would accept zero “inducements”. No dinners nor lunches. No ball games. No beers. They wouldn’t even accept a cup of coffee, they insisted on paying themselves. And they took pride in that. Yet the Supreme Court prances around taking exorbitant gifts from billionaires while the good hard working officials at the Fed and Treasury wouldn’t even take a cup of coffee from an old friend. Wow.

@DD-sr9xm Excellent comment! You give perfect examples of how even low-level govt workers are extremely careful about not having their integrity or ethics in question at all! If Supreme Court justices can't figure out that this looks and smells very badly, then they obviously don't have the judgement necessary for the position they hold. The double standard is staggering and at the least they should have the decency to retire quietly or be prepared to undergo serious investigation like any other civil servant.

If he thinks even if ALL JUDGES could do that, without any concern on ethical grounds... then have him, Thomas, write down & publish ALL THE SITUATIONS in which judges should not accept gifts, paid for vacations, etc. and see IF THE PEOPLE ---- WHO LIVE AND DIE UNDER HIS PERSONAL OPINION --- would agree to having him continue to making life and death decisions FOR THEM over the next 30 years... If not, then the High Court's life time tenure should be limited, since corruption is way too hard to decide, since nobody but high court members are able to judge their own actions and they ALL JUDGE themselves to be beyond reproach, no matter what they do...

The mere appearance of a backdoor arrangement poses a significant threat to the integrity of law and democracy. Transparency regarding favors from billionaires remains crucial; corruption’s influence clouds true justice and erodes democratic principles. Allowing a minority to sway the law through judges jeopardizes ethical standards, risking the foundational pillars of justice and societal order.

As officers of the highest court in the nation, they in should be held to a greater standard of ethics and behaviour, as they should be the ones by which all others are judged. Sadly, due to GOP meddling and gross Republican financial influence, they have become the most corrupted court in the land. So much for an independent judiciary. Time for term limits if impartiality cannot be guaranteed.
