Marina Kazantseva is a third-year student. A romantic girl who read Dumas and Mayne Reid novels while growing up, Marina is in love with her sport’s teacher Konstantin Pavlovich, however, while Konstantin is aware of her feelings, he does not take them seriously.
Meanwhile her classmate, Varia blames Marina for her abusive childhood and is planning her revenge. Fifteen years ago, Marina’s father, Boris had an affair with Varia’s mother,
Lyudmila. When Boris’s wife, Yekaterina discovered the affair, she returned her husband to the family after creating a very public scandal. Yekaterina then used her position as District Public Education Department Inspector to make sure that her husband’s mistress was refused employment from every educational institution in town. Lyudmila became an alcoholic, regularly beating her daughter out of frustration and despair until Varia found the strength to stand up to her mother and left home. Living on the streets, however, was hard, and in order to survive, Varia was forced into prostitution, and it was her pimp Isaac, who placed her at the college.
Under the pretence of helping her ‘friend’ in her unhappy love, Varia arrives at Konstantin’s apartment and tells him that Marina works as a prostitute. When Konstantin later develops pneumonia, Varia looks after him, and the two become close until one day, Marina finds Konstantin and Varia kissing in the staff room.
Furious with her friend’s deception, Marina tries to confront Konstantin on his way home from a staff party, however, Konstantin is drunk and drags Marina into his car forcing himself upon her. He soon realizes that Marina is a virgin and that Varia has lied throughout. Konstantin is perplexed. Marina’s love of him was a pure feeling of a young girl. He is ready to stay with her. However, when Varia tells him she is pregnant, Konstantin feels he has no choice but to marry her. Luckily, just before the marriage ceremony is about to take place, Varia’s mother tells Konstantin that her daughter is sterile. Fleeing the church, Konstantin finds Marina at the house of Valentin, a college friend who is in love with her. But is Konstantin too late or will Marina give him a second chance?

What an interesting movie, Russian movies are the best, they always have different twist in their movies I'm never bored with it.
The saddest story is not of Marina's, but everyone else. Even Varya with all her vengeful and sly acts is a tragic character who had a horrible life and was left all alone in the end just like her alcoholic mother. The father is all alone and so is Marina's mother. They saved their marriage all those years ago only to be miserable together and end up alone and broken. Poor Kisel/the young student has unrequited love for Marina and was left alone so Marina could be with the coach. Marina was the only one who had a happy ending with the coach.

pompeius magnus You're right. I also think she'll be very disillusioned with him. They barely even know each other. And he was sleeping with Marina and Varya, unable to make up his mind. Kisel(the young student in love with her) was the most decent character. Marina was very naive and romanticized everything. Reality will be very disappointing to her. I know some people would say that it's a movie, but I enjoy analyzing characters.

@@pompeiusmagnus2276 The last poem Marina recites suggests that she will be happy. Varya didn't get much of a chance. She is strong and resourceful, and may succeed. At least I hope so. I agree with you about the coach. Sleeping with another woman doesn't make the future look good. It makes the plot symmetrical. Dad had two women, now the daughter shares her love with her half sister (we hope temporarily.)

It reminds me of something that happens to me when I was younger. I liked a guy at school but I never told ANYBODY. Later, I made the mistake of telling somebody I had as a friend... she seduced him and got him from me, when she noticed he was becoming closer to me. It hurt me badly but fact is: she never had true feelings for him or the other boy she dated. It was all a game of control and power to her... after playing with their feelings, she left them... She made me feel ashamed that once we were close friends. She never apologized, never cared for my feelings. Well, I never saw him again. I know where he lives now, but I don't want any contact or friendship. In life, we have people who do the same to others only for jealousy or envy. Others for hatred. I experienced that twice and I would never do the same to anybody. It's too painful to face it.

Gaurav Sharma I have NPD, a bad one. I'm struggling with my selfishness and manipulative nature, but I have NEVER done something like that. Taking someone else's man or woman is just sick and unnecessary. Plenty of free fish in the sea for that

I had that experience too. I liked a guy then we went to a bar with my ex friend and another guy. I found out she kissed the guy I liked in front of toilet door. Since then I never trust her. Now she is no longer my friend and I am so glad. They both just past for me now

Wow, there is a lot to like about this movie. The two major themes are revenge and the inability for people to communicate, forgive or admit past poor behavior / sin. The girl with the fantasy crush gains wisdom due to an understanding of the anger of those surrounding her. Worth seeing.
Karina Andolenko.....she is really most beautiful lady. Of course she is good actress too. If I ever happen to meet her, I will invite her for candle lit dinner in Moscow's best restaurant.
Friends, those who have issues understanding this story line. Blonde girl Marina is 23 year old and attending technical institute. She’s a poet and every time we hear her voice other than dialog, she reads her poems about rain and love for their PE coach whom she loves for 3 years. People are laughing at her because she’s awkward and sensitive. New girl with dark hair is Varya, she switches from distant studies to attend classes. Marina and Varya become friends and Marina shares with Varya about her feelings about coach Kostya. Varya decides to talk to him and tells Marina that their only one step between hate toward love. Marina jumps into pool and coach saves her but becomes sick with pneumonia. Varya stays to take care of him and ended up sleeping with him and they have sex. Marina’s Mom tells her Dad that he should go and talk to her because in her family no one cheats or have nervous breakdowns. Then her mother tells Marina’s Dad that she will never forgive his betrayal. People are whispering about Marina and she receives a note inviting her to meet in a haystack. Marina tells Varya that she doesn’t know what’s going on. Varya tells her not to pay attention. Marina finds Varya and coach hugging. Then coach gets drunk at the party. Marina finds him and tells him that she wants to apologize. He tells her why you’re acting this way, that you should decide either you’re a fallen woman like everyone says and stop acting like she’s a decent one. Marina is shocked and hurt, decides to have sex with him. Then after that she tells that if she always wanted him ( I think she said to be her first, but I’m can’t remember at this point.) He is shocked. Marina leaves. Next day she picked her documents from the institute because she decided not to attend it anymore. Every time someone says something bad about Marina he tells that person to do either 30 push up, or run 10 laps. He finds Marina in her home, they have sex, then Marina tells him not to come back because he’s with another and she doesn’t want it like that. Her mother comes. And calls Marina a slot and starts hitting her. Dad grabs mom’s hand and says that if she hits Marina one more time, he will cut her hand off. Mom tells him to leave the house. Varya is living with coach because her mother threw her out of their house. Varya is getting suspicious about coach’s where abouts. He refused to tell her where he was and leaves for store. Marina learns that she and Varya have same Dad (when her parents argue mother says that dad lived with and says Varya’s last name)Marina goes to look for Varya and finds her mother who is obviously is chronic alcoholic. Then Marina comes to coach’s house. Varya tells Marina that her life was very difficult because Marina’s mother told everyone about affair between the Dad and Varya’s Mom and her mom lost job and for 5 years couldn’t find another one. When drunk her mother would bit her up and often she would end up sitting on her porch for whole because her mother threw her out. She she turned 15 she started prostituing. Then she made some money and decided to get education, but at first they wouldn’t take her to the institute and she ended up doing long distant. When she switched to attend institute she met Marina who had everything handed to her. She decided instead of burning Marina’s house or threw stones at their windows just mess with Marina. Coach came and Varya hit in the rooms, then she gives pills to the doctor and he announces that she’s 4 weeks pregnant. Coach decides to marry her. Marina’s mother comes to Varya’s mom house and looks for her husband. She says that Marina left her and her husband left her too. Varya’s Mom comes to the wedding. Coach keeps reminding Varya not to drink and not to scream at her mother. Mother asks why? Learns that Varya is pregnant and laughs. Then says that Varya could never have children. Coach leaves find Marina with that student. He student boy gets bold and assaults coach because he knows that Marina doesn’t love him and never will. Marina tells the student boy to leave her alone and couch comes to stay with Marina. Marina reads her last poem.

Also there was a moment when he after leaving his wedding to Varya coach sits at the table with Marina’s Dad who tells him not to drink cognac with lemon. Then tells him how it’s horrible to see your wife beat your child. Coach tells him that he got married today and will file for divorce later today. That he was marrying a woman because she told him she was pregnant, and it was the right thing to do, but she lied to him. Dad tells him about his daughter Marina that she’s leaving with what seems at first like a nice guy but he’s kisel- Russian sweet drink made from scratch(. Kisel means nothing outstanding is about that person and who knows what demons he may have. )

Mean Gurl I think when he realized Varya told lies about her being a prostitute, when in reality Marina was a virgin before they did it in the car. In fact, Varya was the prostitute before she came to Uni

pompeius magnus I'm pretty sure that's what she was talking about, yes. Varya had a horrible life and this is why she's so resentful towards Marina and her family. Marina's mother really went out if her way to ruin Varya's mother after she found out about the affair. She told everyone about it, so Varya's mother couldn't get a job, which caused her to start drinking heavily and become abusive towards Varya

Yes, that was a disappointment. Whatever her mother said in front of those kids in that room must have been a very important factor in order for everyone to come to a halt and the teacher walk out on her.

Lucky Ali I doubt that he'll be cuffed. It's not high school, it's the University/college. He might be fired, but there's a lot of cases where students have affairs with their lecturers on the side without anyone knowing. It's unprofessional, but no reason for arrest. Only if you're in highschool

It it's painful it's *not* love. It's dysfunction. It's 2022 already for crying out loud! Women have to stop telling themselves that love hurts! We enable men to hurt us. Myriads of books have been written on the subject. If you read just one you'll never say something silly like that again.

What happened to the subtitles?
Why the English subtitle disappearance from approx. 1:14:20 to 1:21:00? Guesswork during this time. Good for learning Russian but a bit disappointing to miss so much detail.
some parts towards the end don't have subtitles :( guessed a bit because I don'e know any russian apart from priviet, spacibo etc...
It was good since beginning but the end of the story was awful i think.Marina could have settled down with that naive guy but she chose the one who traited her and also i couldn't get what happened when drunk mom got to celebration.

The whole point was that the guy wasn't naive, as the play on the word Kisel implies. The word means a tasty drink with a bad aftertaste. In the apartment, the "naive" guy boasts to Marina that he crosses the finish line before coach. He seemed sweet and naive at first but revealed that he was cunning and viewed Marina as a prize. After he leaves the keys for the coach, he says, "I am not Kisel," in Russian. He is admitting that he doesn't want to be the bad guy after all.
Why have you remove the translation in English?
My subtitles quit for about 2 min. Yes, i tried clicking but to no avail. Can someone let me know what was said when Daria's mother came to the wedding celebration & what Constantin said to Marina when he visited her as she was painting? Thank you!!!!!!!!!!!!! What happened to Daria please?

The mother exposed Varia who cannot get pregnant. Konstantin said he got married and divorced. Kisel kicked him out.

A fantastic comedy...it took only 37 minutes to get one of the heroines in bed...for a Russian sport's teacher... it's too long.
Russian girls are most beautiful in the world.

Sure. During the wedding, Varya's mom crashed the party and told everyone, that Varya can't be pregnant. Apparently, she can't conceive. This causes the coach to file for a divorce and go to a bar, where he runs into Marina's dad, who is also drowning his sorrows, since he left his wife. They talk to each other and tell one another their misfortunes. He quickly realises, that the father is talking about his Marina and finds out, that she moved in with Kisel. His father also tells him, that Marina is pregnant. He specifically says, in response to the fake pregnancy situation, "It could be worse. My wife kicked out our pregnant daughter out on the streets. I'm supposed to just put up with it, but how can I?".
