The Struggle Is Real - Romans

Christians can struggle with consistency. Like everyone, we sin and fall short in many areas. It's easy to get discouraged and think to ourselves, "I'm weak," or "I must not be called to the Christian life." The struggle with sin is real for every Christian. In this message, Pastor Nate Heitzig examines the believer's situation and struggle with carnality as well as the solution for victory.
This teaching is from our series Heart & Soul: A Study through Romans with Skip Heitzig from Calvary Church.

I am a home bound adult who watches a lesson everyday preached by your church. I live in Texas and I am struggling daily with pain, anxiety, panic, PTSD, OCD, and fear. I have tried to shed that sin and have even tried to leave it at the Cross for Jesus, but for some reason I keep coming back and picking it up again. I don't know how to completely let go. I was baptized when I was 7 but only in the last 5 or 6 years have I really started to live the Godly life. I need prayer, I need intercession on my behalf, and I need Jesus to take these burdens away from me so I can be happy.

I'll pray for you Tami. Just keep asking him to heal you, its ok to be discouraged, just don't give up. Jesus changes the things in my life that are sinful, but in my experience, when I pray constantly, he works those areas in me in a very subtle and gradual way. In time, I look back and it's not an issue any longer. Keep pressin' forward. God be with you.

I love how we apparently dont have anything good in us. The start of this message was good and made sense. But when you make the claim that no human being has good in him/ her what so ever, you start slipping. God works in mysterious ways, he uses the hint of good with in us to shift the odds in massive proportions. To make big changes as he see's fit. I'm well aware of us being born into sin but he made a point of us growing up and above all our lord and savior's sacrifice and the repenting of our sins. If you understand the meaning of love or sacrifice or if a man strikes you offer him the other side or even tolerance and law then that is good. If you PRAY from you heart then that is good. That is a connection with our god and it is good. Once we committ we instantly face challenges. It up to us to make the GOOD or bad decisions. Prayer does more than this man seems to admit. It can break sin and repeats of it. like he said to the point that it naturally Fades away. His title says it all, the struggle is real.

I’ve heard it taught that this is Paul speaking of himself as a pious Jew struggling to do the will of God before he was saved in Christ Jesus without the aid of the Holy Spirit

You mention reaching a place of desperation where not even bible study, fasting nor prayer can help you. Aren't we meant to reach out to God to help us through this struggle? isnt that what bible study, fasting and prayer does? Please help me understand:)

Obedience to God out of love for God (John 14:15) leads to deliverance from any sin that we are bound in before turning to God (Hebrews 5:9, Acts 5:32). Then we don't come to Jesus for a struggle, but to be set free from sin by his power (John 8:34-36, Romans 6:16-18). God will help us but we have to approach Him the way that He expects. We need to humble ourselves and submit to God (James 4:6-8). That is how we can always say "No" to sin and "Yes" to doing God's will rather. Humility is really the key to get God's help to start living a new life that pleases Him (Romans 6:4). If we do not struggle to love God, we will not struggle to hate sin to the point of it being easy to say "No" to sin whenever temptation comes. That is the grace of God at work and it works when our mind is really set on serving God, which is the result of genuine repentance. Titus 2:11-14 11 For the grace of God has appeared, bringing salvation to all people, 12 *instructing us to say "No" to ungodliness and worldly desires, and to live soberly, righteously, and godly in this present age;* 13 looking for the blessed hope and appearing of the glory of our great God and Savior, Jesus Christ; 14 who gave himself for us, that he might *redeem us from all iniquity, and purify for himself a people for his own possession, zealous for good works.* I don't really follow the train of thought of the speaker concerning the comments you have highlighted, but I touched on many things and I'm glad to elaborate on anything in particular. But personally, when it comes to struggling with any sin, I don't see bible study, prayer and fasting as the prescription, especially if repentance is not emphasized or understood as the Bible teaches it. Peace to you!

If Paul wrote Romans 7 showing a Christian's battle with sin, then the "law of the spirit of life in Christ" had NOT set him free from the "law of sin and death"! Rather, not being under the law but grace sets us free.

Romans 7:14:24 The majority of the saints believed this was not about Saved Apostle Paul. But instead, a Lost Convicted Jew under the Law. None of them believed this was about Saved Apostle Paul sinning until Augustine. Anyone can research and figure out what is true. Jews did and still do delight in Gods law. Paul even tells you he is writing to those under the Law aka Jews. They are conscious they break it and repent, but its a cycle. The concience is the inner man. And nothing in Romans 7 says that this man Romans 7:14-24 has the Holy Spirit. If you just read Romans 6 and Then 8 and then 7, you could see a massive shift that no one can rightfully explain away the contradictions. You can't be enslaved to sin and free from sin.. that's a contradiction. If you want to know more about this view please feel free to check out Reclaiming Christian Theology.

Disappointed big time, !!!! waited 45 minutes in a 48 minute video desperately to hear the answer and never heard " how" . I know Jesus. But that in itself doesn't get rid of the guilt.
