Brilliant lecture! Some commentators in this thread should realize that this lecturer is not necessarily IN Sufism but he is giving a lecture FOR and ABOUT Sufism and there is absolutely nothing wrong with this. He makes a valid point about our times and the unfortunate dichotomy and even adversarial relation between religion and secularism.

Mr. Sukkar had delivered his speech. Even though he has a muslim name he is just like all other orientalists. They can talk about the glory and wonderfulness of the sun while never have stepped out of the dark cave of orientalism. It's a ludicrous that these people can talk about for hours on end but have never tasted anything near Al Haqq. Oh young muslims of the west its time to wake up and not take your Islam from these people!!

Majority of them related to different religions and think on their perceptive, they can't go for the reality at any cost. They decided to pollute but it is not possible In Sha Allah

He has to read. It's not in his heart. Read the works yourself. I did and still do. I first started with Henry Corbin.. Then I fount some of Arabi's works. The Universal Tree and the Four Birds is the most amazing shit I have ever read in my life. READ IT YOURSELF. PERSONAL AWAKENING. NOT COLLECTIVE.

Very basis information, one can't be a sufi until he/she is not into it. I don't think this is sufism (Sufi is person who is pure Muslim only) otherwise it is just basis information not knowledge.

How could a scholar ever have knowledge of the experience of a mystic? A scholar depends on logic and reason to explain a phenomenon from the outside only. He has no access to the deeper inner experience of a mystic as this knowledge is based on the transcendence of individuality and thus the limitations of materiality, time and space. A mystic, or in tis particular case a Sufi, can therefore never be a true Muslim as there is nobody left to be put into any particular category.

The Islamic sufis were also scholars of Islam Ibn Arabi, Al Ghazzali, Rumi, Abudl qadir al Jazari/Jialni - according to them to get to Haqqaiat (reality) you have to follow the Sharia (law) which means practicing Islam - Sufism or Tassawuf is Just the internal esoteric aspect of Islam whilst Islam is the outward aspect. Together with Iman (belief) Islam (action) and Ihsan (excellence to beautify/state) - you get a muslim.

The first forty minutes all he does is list out pairs of opposites. Light/Dark, Divine/Human, Seen/Unseen, One/Many, illumination/shadow, existence/non-existence. I kept waiting for the science of light part to begin. The quotes were of interest, but more like poetry than science. And we get pairs - truth and reason, beauty and love, heart and mind, knowledge and piety, spirituality and rationality. I'm feeling like this is some kind of highly edited, New World Order approved kind of presentation made not to offend anybody, nor to stir up anybody, so I check the comments. Hmm. Not too successful, if that was the plan.
