The Strongest Snatch Battle Ever | 220kg Snatches!

Спорт

For the first time ever, two weightlifters (Lasha Talakhadze and Gor Minasyan) attempted snatches at 220kg, with a further third (Varazdat Lalayan) attempting over 215kg, making this the strongest snatch battle ever. This took place during the men's +109kg session at the world weightlifting championships 2023.

Of 7 lifters in the A group, 16 of 21 snatch attempts were 200+. Sydney 2000 has got to be the closest, with 10 lifters in the A group, 17 of 30 were at 200+. 76% vs 57%. However Sydney has them beat in the clean and jerk, 20 of 30 attempts were 250+. There were 6 lifters attempting 260+! 5 lifters opened at 250, and all were successful! Kim Tae-Hyun jumped from 245 to 260, and made it! 2023 Worlds only had 7 attempts at 250+, and only 1 at 260. And the only successful ones were Lasha's 253 and unbelievably, Martirosyan's 250!

@alubchicken If this suggestion isn’t given the absolutely serious consideration by the IWF that it deserves, it is only proof that we live in a malicious universe. Although it does require replacing a century of “women’s snatch” jokes. “Women’s yeet” is a little too abstract. Although discussing the power of a man’s yank might be a partial substitute.

But in the meantime I'm enjoying every competition. Since I'm relatively new I have learned that Gor used to lift for Armenia but now lifts for Bahrain. And Lesman Paredes is Columbian but now lifts for Bahrain as well. I don't recall Lesman lifting at World's? But there were some sessions that I missed and I'm working on catching up. Seb and Max did a great job as commentators. I'm hoping WH will be streaming more competitions between now and the Olympics. For now Max and Seb were probably glad to get back home and get some rest. Seb, Max and the WH team did a phenomenal job though.

If he would went all out once he wouldn’t earn that much. I still think he can do the mythical 500 total but I’m afraid that we might will never see it because of his age started to kick in or some injuries can sneak in the preparation. These are great efforts by Lalayan and especially Minasyan, to push themselves. But honestly, there was never any chance of Either beating Lasha, and they do not yet merit consideration in such a light. Lasha is obviously just coasting here, just waiting to see how high he’ll need to go. He hit 220 pretty much as easily as his 208, and Gor just isn’t close to being able to do that. He isn’t close. Hopefully next year he can get it and maybe push Lasha even higher. But, barring injury or health problems, things have not changed. Lasha is King, going away. And he’s king even though he’s facing the strongest competition ever assembled at one time.

I suppose he use that advantage and makes just slightly over the other to keep be first and enough for a record, but not what he is capable to do. No athlete can compensate 10 kg of muscle mass, no way. All other competitors are according their body weight. It is like his competitor would allowed to one level down and beat every possible competitors there.

He can't do it following himself. It actually might have been possible in 2021, but only if he'd had more competition to help him space out the second and third lifts. Barring an absolutely incredible training cycle (ahem, in more ways than one) leading up to Paris, I think we'll have to wait for the _next_ once-in-a-generation lifter to come along to see a 500 kg total. Also, whoever that next great superheavy is, it'll probably have to be someone who can build their strength up while carrying a little lower bodyfat percentage than Lasha, and particularly less torso fat. The problem is that the levels of intra-thoracic fat that Lasha's needed to carry to get to this level have shortened his peak (because intra-thoracic fat is particularly conducive to raising insulin resistance, and all the follow-on effects that come with that). It's painful to watch him walk around now. He needs to get out of the sport and drop 50kg ASAP. Look at how Gor walks around, and you'll realize that his system handles being chonky far better than Lasha's does. Basically, it looks like we need weightlifting's version of Hafthor Bjornsson or Brian Shaw - an enormously-framed individual who moves well and who bulks without concentrating as much of it in the torso as Lasha or Zydrunas Savickas. Lasha has the frame, but not _quite_ the muscle-building genetics.

LOOK CLOSELY, it happens very FAST…I see the BIG belly’s being used to great effect? Bouncing the belly into the bar mid lift to add upward energy is clear! Legal or not I’m not sure? However I do have utmost respect for their strength, training & achievements.

I don't know why Gor instead Attempt 218kg for Second All Time Best Snatch on Competition he jump to 220 ? He already 217 on Asian ChampionShip 2023 but why not 218 for 1kg PR and Lasha just did 215 and Lalyan attempt 217

He wants 220 more than anything. If he could do 218, he could probably do 220. He also probably doesn't care much about the total, since lasha will beat him anyway. But that 220, potentially beating lasha in the snatch would be phenomenal

@@o-neil That's make sense ,But I just think if Gor just play Save on Total for 218 .Since Lalyan failed 217 he would get Silver behind Lasha even I think Gor had made 220 on Training

This sport is basically dying in my country and 2024 may be the last year it's part of the olympics but no, you had to purchase the diffusion rights in my country for a bunch of money just to charge a couple dozens of viewers. No need to make the sport popular. All that matters is Seb Ostrowiz making few bucks before the sport disappears from the surface.

Are you really that stupid? Seb spent _three_ weeks in Saudi Arabia - and he wasn't the only one from Weightlifting House who went! Do you think that magically happened for free? Please take your nonsense elsewhere.
