It does make some sense to have gauge scaling more in line with damage scaling off a Perfect Parry.
Even to this day, the damage on Punish Counter Throw surprises me. It makes sense, but it's just SO MUCH more than a regular non-punish throw...

You still get hkd afterwards too, and then you get oki to do whatever you want rather it be gaining a resource stock or setup

I love that they specifically buffed his super meter gain as one thing he was struggling with, because it's true. Gief just didn't gain super like everyone else, now he does it a little better.

I kind of love how carefully crafted sf6 is. Its such a delicate balance of fast and slow and offense and defense.

@@RayzeCruxis I was going to cite Street Fighter 5 as an exception as they did a really good job keeping their DLC characters relatively tame balance wise after Seth... But then I remembered Luke happened.

@@RayzeCruxis Honestly they don't make money from characters: The development time in to profit out doesn't make sense in that respect. The DLC characters are actually quite cheap comparatively, which is very nice. Where the real money is in fighting games is cosmetics, and capcom is dipping into that well *way too hard* right now with the prices they want for them. It was the same in SF5: Chun-Li carried that game on her massive, highly marketable thighs and the 18 skins they released for her.

It's a beautiful game and I'm glad they went their own way with changes. You see how much care goes into it.
30:25 I like this change. It'll incentivize players to save their meter to look for riskier and more rewarding openings, which increases depth and probably also allows viewers to see more hype plays. 30:55 HAHA I CALLED IT! Now I'm thinking like a fighting game player!

It's still pretty good, only if your opponent is really fast on the anti-air then it gets shut down.

@@sanicboi9187 It does what it always did, create mix for his jump-ins. If he jumps without air fireball and you anti-air early, maybe he dive kicks instead and you whiff. Such like that.

It definitely makes sense that since perfect parry gives so much reward in regards to position (going from holding mixups or oki to having control or OKI pressure yourself) that it shouldn't give you as much reward in terms of resources.
The crossup accidental input thing was something I remember causing me a ton of trouble early on, but I bet like most people, I eventually rebuilt that timing / muscle memory. I hope it didn't break that.
Love the light scaling change. I always thought it was really stupid that the drive system allowed you get close to the same damage of starting with a heavy, off a frickin jab. It was boring to see any hit go into dr into the same exact combo.
Wake up Drive Reversal is basically a reset button if it lands. Due to this I may not use it much against certain characters like JP. I'd rather deal with him close up, not put him back where he wants to be.
Buffer windows are absolutely broken. I keep getting the break dance with Jamie in neutral. They need to fix this asap.

I havent watched the whole thing yet, so maybe you touch on it, but something worth noting is that the change to parry (specifically the forwards hurtbox shift) will make ot way WAY easier to PP projectiles

it hasn't even been 2 days since his release, I'm also bored of always playing vs Akuma's but it's gonna be at least a week before it dies down
I hope you continue doing these selective analyses. There are tons of channels who do full patch notes reviews, but I love the in depth explorations into specific mechanics, system mechanics, and stuff like your lab exploration for characters and stuff like that. It's some of my favorite SF content in general. I'm too new to FGs to discover a lot of this nitty gritty type stuff, but it's also the stuff I find most interesting in other games that I have much more experience in, and I can only hope I'll be able to get to your level of theory in FGs in general.
As someone that distanced themselves from the game because I wasn't a huge fan of the previous meta, this new patch actually sounds pretty good. All of the universal changes are pretty well thought out, nerfing the damage from lights specifically seems like a very good change, since they're usually doing work in up close pressure situations, so it incentives the player to pressure with mediums if they wanna make it hurt, making them vulnerable to wake-up dReversal. Coupled with the damage nerfs to a lot of the heavy hitters, I think this will lead to longer matches and an overall healthier meta. also, Aki is definitely going to be a menace this season, her change list looks like a buff Bible.
I understand the light damage scaling for more variety of convertions, but I think this heavily hurt some specific characters like ed tipping the scales in certain matchups

The drive gauge regen nerf is pretty cruel for perfect parry. I would at least let them keep that, if not even buff it to compensate for all the nerfs. I think letting people recover their own gauge and putting yourself in a better spot is less problematic than getting a perfect parry and demolishing the opponents gauge.

that demolishing on drive gauge is huge nerf to JP because it was only ways for JP to put people into burn out to do Chip damage on his zoning. Like a big thing for zoners is destroying drive gauge to do chip damage on their ranged moves. this change puts it too far in other direction where zoning characters don't have good options to put people into burn out to be relevant. I think this is definitely going to be adjusted in the future where certain characters might not have same drive gauge burn out for perfect parries globally. Guile and JP and even things like Marisa need that type of burn out gameplay happening.
Yeah, hearing about the light scaling reduction I thought this being a nerf to Ed, changing from a bit Luke to a lot of Ken to Ed, he's so more dependent on his lights and especially light specials than the others I'm familiar with and the boy sure doesn't need nerfs unlike others mentioned in this comment...
Perhaps the reduction in Drive Gauge damage works together with the increased combo damage scaling to work in favor of the player playing catch-up. Sounds like Capcom is shooting for more entertaining tournament matches. Everyone loves a comeback.

I think the damage scaling change is huge nerf to Lily, since basically a majority of her combos/conversions start from double lights.
The universal light attack combo starter scaling combined with the buffs Ryu got to damage and Denjin make him such a menace no. Hitting like a truck on short strings of medium and heavy attacks is his whole thing.

I've seen on other videos that it's based on whether you're still holding the forward input or not. If you're still holding forward, you get the dragonlash. If you let go of it, you get the run instead.
The parry recovery nerf was not a good idea. Excellent video though B.
I'm glad with the perfect parry change. At times I felt like the meta was punishing players for initiating.
Aki gets another wake up option now, right?

As Dhalsim only user so far (roster is still @$$) the damage reduction from meter dumping etc makes me happy. Brain meltingly bored of people meter dumping into lvl.3 like they think they are "nice". Hopefully more variation now.
I am always getting moves coming out when I don’t want them to. I have lost a lot from it. I don’t know why it happens so bad. I have never had it happen so much in a SF game.

They had to nerf the scaling to accommodate for akumas low health.
Ed was way too prevalent when he first came out online cuz that ed mirror put me to sleep and I know when I get back online Akuma is gonna be 10x worse in my region

IDK man.. I get what is being said about the PP nerfs but to an extent, it was nice having the option to commit resources to hit the opponents drive gauge. 3 bars for a punish counter combo w/ super that is heavily scaled was such a terrible proposition. Now, along with the regular parry changes, people are going to have much more drive meter to work with on average which means for frequent use of drive rush nonsense which is equally if not more volatile that landing a perfect parry to steal the round. This entire thing goes back to the drawing board where the devs shot themselves in the foot by making drive parry function the way it does and its general ease of use, meaning they have to work around its implemented existence / effect on the core gameplay that changes like this even need to be made. Everyone complained that perfect parry was too low risk / high reward when the reality is what they really wanted was more ways to apply fisher price drive rush offense.
I like wen it takes more the 2 to 3 good combos to kill a person…so all this dmg scaling I like….I truly think when a game is at 3 to 4 combos to win is like a perfect combo to dmg scale….im not counting hits in between…at full health….wen a game is at 3 to 4 combos to kill and 5 is max….makes the back and forward more interesting….not someone doing 1 combo and 4 gabs after that to kill someone….no skill in that u just have a character that good cause 1 mistake happen….

They should have nerfed repeating strings with scaling incurring when the same two heavy or heavy into medium into drive rush repeat. Tired of seeing the top characters do the same 3 times in a row into level 3. Make people change up the strings mid combo. Sure it would end in something like Lily where conversions are still linear, but it isn't 3 reps of the same two high damage/advantage buttons.

I think offense is a little too strong in this game. If your in the corner, there isn't an easy way to get out. Being in the corner while having full drive is imo worse than being in burnout while in neutral. burnout

Offense is supposed to be strong in the corner, how else are you supposed to finish your opponent off? A fighting game with weak offense is the same as gambling
