We play The Strayaway Child mostly during our theatre shows with our wonderful dancers Rosalie & Madelief, at Zomerfolk we play this song with the bodypaint performance on stage. This video is from when we first presented our new CD Scotland's Story in O'ceallaigh Irish Pub. Dieb plays all our difficult songs perfectly and never gets confused, this song is the one exception, it has six violin parts and for some reason Dieb has a hard time keeping them apart, luckily we are always there to help him =)
Background info
This classic 6 part jig was first recorded by the late Michael Gorman (1895-1970), a county Sligo fiddler who spent much of his adult life in the London area. The tune was popularized in the late 1970s by Kevin Burke and The Bothy Band. The Chieftains (one of our favourite bands) have recorded this song on their album A Chieftains Celebration.

I played this piece on Community Radio 4EBFM98.1 in Brisbane, Australia, about 15 years ago as an accompaniment to an historic 19th century, tragic event. A Travelling Priest had come to an isolated Irish community to celebrate Mass and other religious rituals. 'Neighbours' had gathered in from miles around for this historic event. During the course of celebrating Mass, a very young girl (3 or 4 years old) wandered off into the bush. A big search was launched. When she was found, dead, dehydrated, she looked like she was merely sleeping, clutching a posey of native flowers. A woman called in to the program to appreciate the story/music, as she was a descendant of that tragic family! The evocative power of music!

I like the way nobody here feels " rushed" to get to the point. The point of this beautiful melody is that it bears repetition & additional instruments enhance it's power

Ik heb meerdere keren geluisterd, maar het valt mij op dat jullie allevier geen fout maken en fantastisch spelen. Ik snap dus echt niet waar het verhaal vandaan komt, dat Dieb dit nummer niet zou beheersen???
