MacArthur's inaction in the Philippines on 8 December 1941, with nine hours warning is not explained. Other than that, It was an enjoyable and informative lecture.

Does anyone out there know the name of the secretary who took the dictation from President Truman in the White House,firing General MacArthur? Who were the people present in the room at the time? In the 1970s,I knew the woman and her best friend,and heard the story first-hand. I need to be sure that she is the one.Both women have passed-away a long time ago. Some awkward piece of conversation was exclaimed when President Truman dictated the letter,and I am sure that it was never reported by any historian or by anyone who wrote about this period of American history. Hope that someone reads this message,and can produce the name of the woman,so I can fill-in a bizarre incident that occurred at that moment.

Marshall Plan

MacArthur and Marshall were well acquainted with each other in WWI. Marshall was a staff officer under Pershing who MacArthur did not get along with. That's why Marshall was transferred to the Illinois National Guard when MacArthur was Army Chief of Staff. This guy has some work to do in the research department.

George C. Marshall was one of the great men in American history. MacArthur was a general during WW2. Big difference.

MacArthur was a great general, but he cared more about himself and his own reputation then he did about his country. --The exact opposite of General Marshall.

DoubleMrE nope, McArthur was a fucking politician playing at general.... he got men killed, blamed others, got more killed, blamed others, then when desperate men finally won, he stood to take credit....
