This is just a piece among many stolen items including idols, books, coins, jewellery etc. There are many being displayed in the museum in UK, Scotland etc not just Indian, but also Greek,Roman. After people started questioning they are moved/hidden. Some are also found in auction to make it legitimate

The historical jewellery pieces which are missing/stolen need to be investigate and bring back to the country as they’re part of our country’s heritage. 🙂 I guess people should voice up their opinions on these matters too as they voice on the matters of religion and other civil matters. Because I’ve read and personally noticed that many of our historical heritages being stolen and never a single clue was found and it’s really sad how other country/ rich people can tarnish even after the post- colonial age.

How precisely are they part of your country’s heritage? They were redesigned by Western jewellers and then probably sold by the Maharaja’s heirs? Generally with this stuff if it was stolen or seized after a battle etc. people know that story, and then there might be a case for returning the pieces. If I sell my grandmother’s jewellery to you do I get to turn around twenty years later and demand it back because it is my family’s treasures?

Right. And if they pay no royalty for the one design that changed their life that they still are after it, just shows how much intellectual property rights are misused. As much as I know my own countrymen, I'm pretty sure that one of the royal family sold in unbeknownst of the family itself for some "endeavors" and since it was an inside job, the royal family hushed the news down. Most of the Indian historical treasures that are in the hands of non-Indians now is because there were some Indians themselves who made the deal.

That’s actually very true. This choker was part of the necklace which was divided among the 52 sons of maharaja. Quite a few pieces were anonymously sold by the family members. Also the fact that this choker is not the same that the maharaja wore. Cartier made a similar one using new diamonds. Idk why Indians are getting so angry over a blood diamond. The diamond was mined from Africa made in france and the bought by some Indian and is again bought by cartier. We have no right over it
