Actually diamonds are not rare the industry is controlled by De Beers and they control the amount of diamonds that is released into the market. That’s how they control the market value of the diamond industry.

Tsetsi 😂 I still always thought that if you see so many of the same thing over and over it loses its unique and special qualities that allure you to certain pieces in the first place. Although I’m a major bargain hunter, fortunate and so lucky my mom and me drove from San Diego to AZ a lot growing up back and forth. This was in the early to mid 1990’s, always stopping in quartzite; the known gemologist’s Mecca for GEMSTONES specifically. She always got some neat deals on “gem stones” my dad would act like it was time and the amount of money it costed back then to be a complete waste and he was from the east coast, traveled the world and all that stuff...wasted....something like an unusually neat (cheap then, now a fortune in comparison ) green garnet that’s almost 30 carrots and an almost 40 carrot cushion-cut amethyst, Citrine, Amber, topaz and even red garnets have gone up so much since then. My love for unique pieces started once I got my 30’s and to date I won’t buy precious jewelry for myself...here’s to getting past that old school thought process that I’ll be somehow understood and given the perfect pieces of jewelry....now a-days I’m so grateful for the finds my mom loved and had set (she lets me borrow them months at a time and they finally fit me...I set one Smokey Quarts or citrine that was almost 40 carrots with a couple complementary facets of Art Deco inspired tiny golden toned yellow saffires in an all gold encasing and that alone in DYLA was over $760...Art Deco, filigree and all antique custom jewelry from random older estates are truly awesome to me. To see tings one at a time at Tiffanie’s (all unique to themselves and their own histories) would ruin my relationship with my boyfriend, lol!! He doesn’t understand spending on jewelry and can’t fathom costs for things like black opals and green (unclouded) emralds, their my favorites along with the less pricey Ethiopian Opal’s...but it’s like makeup or clothes or gardening to me...a statement of my ‘Bigger Than Life’ (hopefully) personality and just another form of my expression and tastes..a marker of expression. My boyfriend collects and manufactures 1:6 figures for major pop culture movies, television and comic book characters. To him, looking at his items and handling them delicately and carefully unwrapping each one and posing them perfect to be of a nature that is much more rewarding way to spend. He will never get my enjoyment for certain things and many people blow off a love for jewelry because they just see $$$, his figures are somehow different to him and smart. I like to wear thongs and e joy the present, he can collect and store forever....To me, the difference in this “unseen” room of jewels and jewelry is never seeing it before in person, to know not many many have and would be special to me based on the history and of course the looks of impressive pieces.

It’s only my opinion but they are attractive to the eye. what makes them special is that they are created deep inside the earth. Diamonds can take any where from 1 billion to 3 billion years to form. The diamonds any one wears have been forming since before humans started roaming the earth, that’s kind of incredible.

This is true, but I'm guessing you haven't saw a real diamond, because if you did then you'd understand why some people go bananas over buying one. Diamonds are simply not ordinary stones. Of course there's a monopoly but most see their cuts as an expression of art.

Not a fan of 'real' gemstones, here. (Big fan of CZs, for color, clarity, AND price point.) But one does have to admire the skill both in design and setting that the higher-end jewelry requires.
now i see why they say tiffanys is one of the most over priced jewelry stores
Very smart business move to have a “secret room” that is “invitation only” that makes rich people compelled to buy something once they are inside to prove that they were “the right kind of person to invite” and to ensure they don’t “miss out” on the opportunity to buy something exclusive.
The diamond trade is abusive
So much of Tiffany jewelry is obviously for the working middle class though. Their various packaging says it all. They're fun but elegant.

Grow up, we don't live in a utophia, luxury doesn't automatically equate to selfishness in the world. Poor mangement and investment and exploitative practices are. For example, if Tiffany's is selling a 4 million Doller diamond to an African dictator who should be spending that building his country's water infrastructure, that's bad. If it Joe Moneybags, who gives plenty to African charities or even has his own programme, why begrude him spending something on himself?

Well yeah I agree there a lot of shady folks out there too, but I don't think its fair to go down all rich people are bad route, which the "...kids in africa" cliche basically is saying. I also notice in my personal life the "kids in africa" set are happy off to buy qustionable fast fashion, made by Asian kids. I think we all have potenial to have blood on our hands but not all working and middle class people are engaged in fast fashion and not all rich people have dirty money. Simplistic exampes but hopefully it illustrates the poin well. That said, life is more complex than that and its why these "blah blah africa" comments annoy me, they are so simplistic and cliched.
