The Story of The Corporate Ministry

The Undertaker's Ministry of Darkness had proven to be an entertaining addition to WWE programming in early 1999. The Undertaker turned heel and joined forces with Paul Bearer, Mideon, The Acolytes, Viscera and The Brood to create The Ministry of Darkness stable, and fans enjoyed seeing this new faction dominate the World Wrestling Federation for a brief time.
Shane McMahon would merge "The Corporation" faction with the Ministry of Darkness on the very first episode of WWF Smackdown. This new super group of heels, known as The Corporate Ministry, was set up to take care of three main adversaries... The Rock, Stone Cold Steve Ausitn, and Vince McMahon himself. Championship gold would make it's way to the Corporate Ministry with Triple H, The Undertaker and Shane McMahon leading the way along with the arrival of the higher power. This higher power, or "greater power" as he was sometimes known, would end up becoming the the big reveal that everyone remembers from the complete Corporate Ministry run.
In this video that continues the Wrestling Bios Undertaker series, we look at The Corporate Ministry. Topics covered include:
01:52 - The Corporate Ministry WWF debut
05:53 - Undertaker and Triple H vs The Rock and Steve Austin
08:14 - The WWF Debut of The Union
10:46 - Commisioner Shawn Michaels books Union vs Corporate Ministry matches
17:26 - The Corporate Ministry at Over The Edge 1999
23:06 - The Higher Power is revealed on WWF Raw is War
- Much More!

To be fair, he always showed hints of baddass biker Taker, as far back as 97. Then toward the end of the ministry deal he was in more normal clothes with shades, then they did the Kayfabe story of him becoming too wrapped up in a character he plays, even using his real name (Mark). So after he was gone a while, he basically was mentally stable and normal again. Since they wanted wrestling to be more realistic then.

  • @Cassandra_Solidor

@@SilverWolf442 Actually, the main reason Biker Taker happened is Undertake seriously became disillusioned with the Deadman gimmick and wrestling in general. He nearly retired. Biker Taker was creative's way of letting him essentially be more like an exaggerated version of himself (much like Stone Cold was). Undertaker only returned to the Deadman gimmick because fans kept asking about it. He literally went back for the fans.

Undertaker has outright said the Cooperate Ministry is among his most disliked periods in WWE because he felt like the Undertaker character was just one of Vince's stodges. Supposedly, they wanted Mankind to be the Higher Power but Mic refused. Which makes sense since why the hell would Mic Foley of all people being a cult leader? They had some other people in time but Vince panicked and decided to reignite his feud with Austin.

My thoughts exactly. DoD became mythical monsters on cheesy sets and fought against "Hulkamania" - and jobbed to the big yellow boots half the time. These guys came out looking like newly converted devil-worshippers covered in runes, even if the "kidnap and crucify" ritual was a little hokey. Basically, DoD was a monster flick and MoD was a slasher flick. That said, wouldn't it have been awesome if the higher power would've been Kevin Sullivan in full-on Satanic mode?

Vince was scared of the Undertaker in 1998, then the following year, he's genuflecting to him, it doesn't make sense. The Undertaker is a Higher Power. Lol those were the days! I was 8 or 9 back then and my bed time was at 9pm(in California, thats when RAW would start), so my Mom would tape the episode and Id watch it when I got up in the morning or when I got home from school the next day. The WWF was so good back then though that my Mom actually became a huge fan as well and I remember at least 2 or 3 times where something so crazy happened on that nights RAW that my Mom would come run into my room all excited and say, " wake up, wake up, you have to see this!!!" The time I remember the most is when Stone Cold came in with the beer truck and sprayed down the Rock, Vince etc... Lol I'll never Forget things like that. EDIT: Sorry, the whole reason I started writing comment in first place was just to say that I used to tape as well and remember when Smackdown first started it came on Thursdays at 8pm so I remember being so happy I would get to watch an hour before I had to go to bed

The complex and elaborate soap opera style storytelling of the Attitude Era was so great. 1999 was the year I got completely onboard with watching WWE regularly and paying attention to the characters and storylines. It wasn't a chore to sit through RAW back then because these multidimensional personalities leapt off the screen and everything they did had a general feeling of urgency and unpredictability. At the end of every show, you were left eager for more. You simply couldn't wait to see what would happen next.

@Trump4Prison2021 That's the creativity in music. You can mix mash music and it can create a new track completely that sounds absolutely amazing such most of the themes used. None are exactly the same as if they were they wouldn't be different tracks, there are different Instruments and cues used that differentiate them, that's why they are different versions or mixes.

@Rich Affinito pissed off because someone died on a show? You'd have to be a sick individual to think like that and can imagine there are some like that but the majority of people would obviously understand the situation and sympathize with the families loss than letting a show carry on. Saying that, there was a similar event in the 80s European Cup Final between Liverpool vs Juventus where a stadium stand fell up on itself killing 39 fans and that carried on. It's something that does divide opinion unfortunately

Then cementing a contingency plan, I.e. creating a “Keyser Soze” type villain to throw Austin off. Remember Austin screwed both Vince AND Taker at Judgment Day. So both of them had every reason to wanna collude with one another, feigning a rivalry so they can throw Austin off even further. Idk, it worked for me lol
