But he sure as heck looks like one. I feel like the whole "heel" thing was just an excuse to include a very Fighting type coded evo for Litten without pissing off the fans. Like, *why* did it have to be a wrestler? There was *literally* no indication of that motif anywhere else in that family, so it just feels slapped on. Incineroar would be a lot better if Torracat was also bipedal wrestler who was training to be a champ like Incineroar with his belt. Sure, Delphox and Meowscarada are bipedal furrybait, but the middle stages at least let you know what to expect and make the progression feel more natural.

@FranXiT Sure, but at least you _knew_ that was what you were going to get. That was my point. Incineroar really doesn't fit next to Torracat and Litten. He could have been another type like Electric/Dark or Fighting/Dark and either be his own stand alone mon or the final stage of a different family.

I loved how gen 7 released trailers. Kept the hype going from May until November. Gen 8 and 9 has been super slow, and It made me not care as much for the release.

I feel like they were also able to save a lot of surprises for the actual game without spoiling. Though, I feel like the trailers that were less than a minute long and only revealed one Pokémon, like with Salndit and Turtanator, they could’ve just been bundled with some others. But for sure, such a hype season!

I kinda feel the opposite. I liked how S/M had constant trailers up till release, but there wasn’t much to discover in game by release. Small monthly trailers definitely made SwSh and SV feel super slow to release, but I had a ton of fun finding the ~70 new Pokémon that weren’t shown before the release.

I do like that they did something unexpected with Primarina and really the whole evolution line. A different body type than other starters. Also, I really like Sound based Pokémon, so Primarina is perfect.

Funny how I think Primarina is one of the baddest Pokémon for me. I really hate it and think it’s a disgrace.

The Masuda story sounds so cool. It's always nice to learn some history for gen 7 since it's the only gen I missed haha.

It’s my favorite part of the whole thing, lol. The fact an English speaking fan just happened to be in Japan while he was doing a signing and then thinking to draw the starters, it’s all so perfect.

I remember the brain-shattering realization when Mallow was revealed, and linked back to the Incineroar concept art. Truly astounding. After not playing gen 4/5 and coming back knowing nothing for gen 6, I stay tuned for all the Gen 7 trailers. It was a fun time to be a Pokemon Fan. Great video ❤

I was SO happy Primarina was confirmed real. I LOVED the design in the concept art and was elated when it happened. I ended up nicknaming mine Entermaid based off of the fake names going around

Sun and Moons hypes season was absolutely unmatched, loved the build up and the Gen as a whole

I called decided on Rowlett from the beginning. But after seeing Decidueye not only did keep Rowlett as my starter, I even named it Kenny. Kind of Ironic since it's final form is part ghost!

Same, I always loved Popplio and it's evolutions more than most people, and I think it's one of the more underrated starter Pokemon out there. It's evolutions are also quite beautiful, and I think they deserve more love and appreciation than they get

I personally feel like they revealed too much. I thought their would be so much more to the game but they really did show everything in the trailer. Probably my fault for having too high expectations though

Sun and Moon’s hype buildup was the best since I first started playing these games back in Diamond and Pearl. They always teased stuff (although probably a little too much at times), but they really kept us excited. Scarlet and Violet’s buildup was very minimal and made me forget about the games sometimes, although I’m glad they didn’t basically tell us everything about the games, I think they should’ve given us some more news more often.

Feels so nostalgic to see this again. I think it's about this time that I got really into Pokemon, more than I already was lol. Those were good times.

This gen was so weird, like it genuinely felt more like a fever dream since GameFreak had no compact way for advertisement aside from sneaks, on top of a 180 from Mega Evolution and everything else prior to the Alola region

I loved how Joe Merrick from serebii was saying it’s fake 😂😂

Interesting thing to note is how Decidueye and Primarina's final render appear are shown off in their concept art, yet Incineroar has new art entirely. Perhaps they were going to go with the one facing forward, but decided to redo the render instead.

I remember watching this all happen in real-time and the absolute shit storm that happened in people vehemently hating on Primarina, like how every generation has one starter that people overhate on in that really cringy way

I remembered what sealed the deal was Mallos's reveal. What I didn't know about is Masuda signing fanart before it officially revealed.

I saw Incineroar and was hoping so much for it to be real and be a Fire Dark type! I was so happy when I turned out to be right! And he ended up with such wholesome dex entries ♡

Man Gen 5 and Gen 7 is where I was in hiatus from Pokémon and yet at that time these games really skyrocketed I’m glad I have these games now but wish it were around the time it started 😢

I was like maybe 50% when I first saw them, but Mallow was the turning point. She was the key.

I remember when they were revealed I was at a school assembly and they pulled up KZread and the trio was on the front page. I was extremely excited to get home that day.

This was such a fun time lol! Thanks for covering this, gave me a blast to the past 🎉

I remember all this going down very well. Good times. Probably the last time I really enjoyed something pokemon related to a high degree. And that includes sun and moon themselves after they actually released...

Wow, that was really cool! Alola region will always be my favorite games and series! I really wish we could revisit it but it will probably take 20 years to do so since we're only up to Diamond and Pearl right now

The Alolan starters are really the only trio that I really love all 3 aside from the Sinnoh starters. Decidueye is easily one of my favorite Pokémon of all time, Incineroar is a very fun Pokémon to use in both the games and in smash, and Primarina is beautiful with an elegant design.

Decidueye was just too good for us

Dartrix's feathers also had the same mark as Decidueye's, which was also something that confirmed them back in the day.

Sun and Moon had definitely the BEST hype season by far

Just reading all the points of the link and I find the second to last one facinating. We got a sea Cucumber in 7, a snowmwn in 8, and a dolphin in 9. Wonder if finizen was scrapped for later for some reason

I wasn't really decided on my starter for Alola until I saw Incineroar's exclusive Z-move, and its heel wrestler motif, which sold me on Litten. I'll likely pick the other 2 in a new game though

I new from the MOMENT I saw Rowlet that no matter what the other starter's where going to be I was set, that being said I hadn't been this excited about all starter selection since hoenn trio I really do love the Alola trio as well..

I remember spending weeks as a kid just looking through KZread video after KZread video just to get new news on the game. It was great!

Gen 7 was really fun. I felt most of my classmates and friends lost interest of pokemon around late gen 5. But when sun and moon was coming out, everyone was talking about it. I remember being excited for it even though I didn't have a 3ds at the time. But eventually got ultra sun and end up loving gen 7

I remember when this all happened. And when malo was announced, I was convinced it was real. The debate afterwards was over the typings. I didn't believe the people who said decidueye's flying would change. And I was desperately hoping the rumors were true that incinroar wasn't the fighting typing it so clearly looked like it had to be to me.

Throwback Thursday

I was going through some heavy life stuff during the build up to Sun and Moon. Pretty much making me blind when I picked it up day 1.

I remember back in the day when this was happening people were convinced that the starters would have a psudo-split evolution line akin to Rockruff due to a magazine mistranslation. Still kinda wish that had been true. Imagine how could it would be for a kid to fully evolve their starter only to find out their buddy who had chosen the same starter got a completely different final evo.

I remember, my first Pokemon game was UltraSun. I immediately chose Litten as my starter, totally fell in love with it. Then, I eventually looked up its evolution and was so incredibly disappointed. I was fully planning on not evolving it into Incineroar and just keep it as Torracat, but after a bit, again, I just fell in love with Incineroar. Like, I was probably around 15 and stupid when I played it. I don't get how I didn't immediately like this wrestle Cat. Anyways, now Incineroar is one of, if not my definitive favorite Pokemon. Especially my own Incineroar. I still have him from my very first playthrough. Paid money to get him into Sword and Shield from the 3DS lol. He's very important to me. He specifically. And he's jolly, I just really think its adorable How this intimidating Fire/Dark Wrestler Cat is just happy and a slight goofball. I love him.

I remember it like it was yesterday. The hype leading into Sun and Moon took place during the peak of the Poketube era.

I remember hoping this would be fake, because I, like many people, thought Incinaroar would be fire fighting. But looking back, this was a wild ride and I wish something similar would happen

I was there for all of that. I vividly remember arguing with someone who said that girl wasn't Mallow and the design was basic enough it could be any girl with a flower in her hair, despite the hair being very obviously the exact same style. The cope was incredible. All cause nobody wanted another fire fighting type.

If Ash's Rowlet have evolved into Dartrix and all the way into Decidueye in the first place back in Pokemon Sun and Moon Series before the Japanese writers wrote this episode " No Stone Unturned!" then it could have become the strongest flying type on Ash's team too even as a Grass/Ghost type after it evolved because Decidueye is awsome and everyone love it in Pokemon Scarlet and Violet games.

Aloha was a great season/Gen 7 in Pokémon, including the games itself

I remember with sword there was a thread that revealed stuff like rabbit and I first dismiss as fake then the game came out

I know we got Palafin but I wish we got the creepy Popplio's final evo.

i remember being 9 or 10 years old, freaking out about the concept art while watching youtubers talk about it. Upon the reveal of Dartrix, Brione,and Torracat, I screamed about how good they are. Nowadays Pokemon game releases don't feel as interesting as Sun and Moon. For scarlet and violet i saw barely any promo videos about new Pokemon, Paldean forms, etc. :(
