Seriously though. If I knew all this beforehand I would’ve had a lot more faith in EDG. Their history and hunger for achievements, as well as Scouts’ obvious determination gives them such a mental edge over DWG. DWG were favorites with little to prove. Scout is just inspiring. His performance in finals was insane. He deserves this.

Just as a short note, a few people have pointed out I unintentionally glossed over Meiko (EDG's support) who's been with EDG this whole time too, even longer than Scout. This documentary obviously focused on Scout, but he also deserves credit for sticking with the team through their dark days until their recent resurgence :)

you're just really bad at journalism, like back in the day when you made the 3v3 video and only talked smack without knowing that lucian mid originated as a counter to mages in 3v3 or all the poe nashors roa builds that were mathematically correct came from there. the so called suppmeta in 3v3 was funnel years before it came to summoners rift. your documentaries are like cheap wine : no nuance. i see why you can't identify in greatness and love underdog stories, you'd like to see yourself as the underdog, but sorry mate, this really just isn't a good piece of work. back to the drawing board.

There's just something cool with someone dedicating their entire pro career to a team and actually be able to win in the highest stage as the most valuable player. Glad that someone has documented Scout's journey in the pro scene.

I remember gbay99 making a story about Huanfeng last year. Then Huanfeng and his team went all the way to the finals. Although they didn't win, they still gave us one of the best worlds championship series ever, especially game 2. I also remember watching every game they played at worlds that year starting from the groups stage, all because of gbay99, and ngl they were one of the most exciting team to watch that year. The Gbay99 buff for Scout will surely take him and his team to places.

The most satisfying thing about this is the fact that at Worlds, Scout and EDG are in the same group as....Faker and SKT, now known as T1. Scout finally comes in as the better player of the two, with a chance to finally exact revenge. Unbelievable.

This is their best roster in years, Scout doesn't have to solo carry games anymore, Viper is arguably the best ADC in the world right now, him and Meiko are absolutely insane as a duo, Flandre has performed really well this year in top as well and I haven't watched enough of JieJie to know whether he's good but looking at their regular split results I would assume so

EDG used to curse other teams though. Anyone who knocked EDG out of worlds would not qualify for worlds the following year. The only time this curse was broken was in 2018 when FNC beat them but still qualified for 2019. And of course this year, no curse because no one knocked them out.

you mentioned scout was the only constant through EDG's history but Meiko was there all the years aswell (and he's also an LPL legend, probably one of the most influential supports of all time) despite this, watching this after the 2021 world's finals give me the chills. scout finally got what he deserved after grinding for years, truly a heartwarming story

Watched this video on release and now I'm watching it again today after celebrating Scout and EDG's heroic victory at the 2021 League of Legends World Championship. No one in the history of this sport has struggled, fought, and persevered like Scout has. This was truly an anime-esque story arch for a player who will go down as one of the greatest players of all time and a true role model for aspiring competitors. Congratulations Lee Ye-chan, you earned it!

At this point whatever team Gbay makes a doc on for worlds just becomes one of my favorite teams I think. First SN with Huanfeng now EDG with Scout

HE WON HE FUCKING WON OMG!!!!!.

I think it would be really cool to reupload an extended version now adding the story of this worlds to the end. From stumbling in groups by dropping a game to 100T, to breaking the curse against against the msi-champion in RNG, to almost loosing against the arguably worst team left, so they go into finals as massive underdogs just to somehow win it in a 5 games series. When EDG believed in him he payed them back and now when he believed in them and stayed with them they payed him back, by not only breaking the curse but also winning it all.

This is the most epic worlds run with 3 silver scrapes in a row, the only other team to make such a run was KTA in OGN 2014 Summer

What is so fascinating to me with EDG's win at summer playoffs, was that it was not only redemption for EDG, and for Scout, but it was at this moment that a player long stuck on a team that almost made it, that almost made it to an international tournament year on year. With snake esports with his old pal SoFM, and with LNG after the rebrand. Flandre is going international baby. I am an LNG fan, but at my heart if EDG wins worlds I would be over the moon, Flandre has long been one of my favorite players and I am so happy he finally made it.

And he did it.

Lpl in general is such an amazing region to root for. You can go as deep as 9th place in playoffs this split and its still a team that can easily make a deep run in worlds (in this case it was literally TES which is insane)

Quick note: Chinese fans call scout 小學弟，which in context means he’s the understudy （to faker) . I hope this year’s worlds he can show that he’s his own unique mid laner, and one of the best in the world

It's a shame that Meiko was so glossed over because he has such a fantastic relationship with Scout. They're the longest-lasting teammates in LPL history (since 2016, so Scout's whole career in LPL Meiko's been his only team support). In that time between Summer 2020 and Spring 2021 splits, it was both Scout and Meiko's contracts there were up and both of them could have potentially left EDG but they both stayed. Scout congratulated Meiko in post-game interview for when the EDG support got his 6000th assist (LPL record) and said he hoped they'll continue playing together for a long time. Meiko also refers to him as a great friend in his Players Tribune essay (a fantastic read!). And now Viper (the ADC Scout scouted~ for the team) along with Meiko are often referred to as the best 2v2 bot-lane in the world. It's such a great narrative and like~ Meiko really adds to Scout's lore Also some of my fave insights on Scout come from Frosk's casting of 2021 LPL Spring EDG in the Playoffs when they 3-0'ed TES: he's a quiet god of the midlane, as he has always been greatly overshadowed by the World Champion midlaners he's subbed for (Faker, PawN) and by the other big World Championship players in the LPL (DoinB, Rookie, etc.). He grew into his own as this quiet god of the midlane who does the job his team needs him to and doing it well. It's such a cool title imo~ The Quiet God. (Pretty accurate too as he's the least chatty in the team comms. Even Viper who's still learning Chinese is more talkative in game or in streams.) Now he's a World Champion himself with a skin for a champion he really likes (Zoe~ incidentally Frosk also referred to Scout as the best Pro Zoe player in the world and now he has the skin to show for it). So like, yeah~ 加油Scout！加油EDG！ 2v2

I really hope scout wins worlds this time, he's a LEGEND.

Scout is fucking CRAZY good but people on reddit don't realize it, this guy in terms of raw skill is in the conversation with Chovy/ShowMaker as the best mids in the world but he's heavily underappreciated because he doesn't win titles, that often, kind of like Rookie but maybe a tiny bit worse than Rookie.

Watched this documentary before Worlds started. Couldn't be happier that a player this dedicated to his organization not only won Worlds, but also won MVP.

Hell yeah, I was hoping you'd put out another video like last week. Glad to see this hasn't disappointed, and even more glad that we got a documentary with a cliffhanger.

Damn, this is one of your best videos ever. That's 2 years in a row now that you've single handedly got me interested in watching worlds after quitting league 4 years ago.

Amazing video Gbay99, this makes me really happy that I'm working on a profile story for one of the collegiate players for my university and your work is always such an inspiration.

Thanks for making this video. As a fan for scout and EDG I am almost in tear. I really hope they can get what they want in S11. Scout has been waiting for a world champion a long time. His talent needs to be proved this time.

Holy shit the goose bumps I’m getting from these videos man, props to Gbay, very few documentaries get this hyped up

What an epic documentary to make the worlds feel more euphoric. Last month, I rooted for skt t1 to win worlds, while low key supporting edg because of this video. Thank you for this documentary, it will be one of my core memory.♥️

There are a lot of players I would want to see a documentary next, namely smeb, khan, and others but honestly I really want to see Deft, in terms of longevity he is only second to Faker, arguably the 2nd greatest ADC of all time, and the greatest ADC Korea produced, he has MSI, LCK, and LPL, 1K kills in LCK and LPL, the only thing he does not have is a worlds trophy which seems that every year he gets a chance to get one, he blows it everytime, and now that his career is losing time, his desperation to win a title shows by his work ethic and even if he has back problems which causes him pain in game, he never stops to try and reach his goal, Deft docu would make my year honestly gbay! only halfway through the scout vid but ik this is going to be a banger

Prior to Worlds Semis, I've seen this video and after watching it, I hoped Scout can win it all, especially from knowing nothing about him and to see the growth and the sacrifices he made to even stay on EDG for so long. And this video is even more satisfying to see given that he has won it all. Thanks Gbay99.

To be honest, Viper is hardly a star when he was recruited. GRF lost LCK seat the year before. The case is very similar to their top laner Flandre. EDG's ability to hire good players from the underdogs is phenomenal.

It’s a good video but I have to figure out that Meiko is another veteran in this team. Both Scout and Meiko carried edg forward in those difficult days.

I already respected EDG a lot because of their dominance and how prominent and loyal players like clearlove and meiko were and this just added a lot to it.
