Lothraxion could still be a spy for Denathrius, but I also like the theory that he's the snitch. That he truly converted to the Light and told the Naaru about Denathrius' infiltration plan. This led to the Light's incursion on Revendreth.

@@mattedmands2085 Right, that's the point I'm making. Their allegiances to any other faction are moot in the grand scheme. Any Nathreziem saying "I serve the Legion" is really part of the bigger ploy. Their entire purpose is to weaken the other realms. My wording is a bit weird, but it's meant reflectively.

My headcanon was that Lothraxion willingly told the Light about Denathrius's plans, and that's how they knew to retaliate against Revendreth and create the Ember Ward. How else would he still be in the Army of the Light if Denathrius's plans to infiltrate the Light were discovered?

I think Lothraxion is the very reason why Light's attacked Revendreth. He's been found to be a bit shifty, out of control, so an abomination in that sense. Nathrezim's known to stage events to build trust towards the sides they're trying to infiltrate (Lothraxion killing Balnazzar in Netherlight, Varimathras killing dreadlords for Sylvanas, etc..) so it's obvious when you watch these events in that light. Shit'll hit the fan either when he finds the chance to deal a devastating blow or when Light finds out he's still alive.

Wasn't it that the light can see the final destination, but cannot see the path that will be taken to get there. While the void can see every path, but cannot see the final destination. So if the light saw an endpoint that Illidan would become a being of light to defeat the burning legion. That would mean we haven't seen the last of the burning legion, or maybe the burning legion was misinterpreted. We haven't seen the high fel entities yet. Given that Eredar is on the mortal plane of things and Sargeras is on the order side of things meaning there was something on the far side before he formed the burning legion.

No, the way it's phrased is that the Void can see all possibilities and hold them all to be equally true, while the Light can only see one possible truth. More or less. Being a creature of Light doesn't make you infallible. Door's open on Fel, of course. Door's open on anything really, since they don't care how many retcons they have to wade through to write a story they feel is cool.

Moorcock influences: Chaos contains all possibilities, but Law allows only one. The former is entropy, the latter is stagnation, and both lead to the end of all things. It is only when they are in balance (there is a literal Balance in Moorcock’s mythos) that the cycle of life and death continues. There’s mythology and philosophy behind this, but I’m not going to lecture... Pay attention to the other Moorcock, specifically Elric, tropes. We now have two soul-sucking mournblades (as per Mournblade and Stormbringer), souls split into separate chaotic and lawful entities, and our toons are The Eternal Champion(s). This all begs extra questions about Lothraxian, such as is he the deliberately created lawful half of a split Nathrazim and, if he is, who is his counterpart? PS. Locus Walker tricks Alleria into becoming Void. Given she’s the other half, as we say, of Turallion hm?

The Light being arrogant and punished for it several times while the edgelords of death being as much arrogant but instead having things perfectly their way seems kind of biased as storytelling goes, yet Blizz has rarely been able to drive away from their personal bias at the cost of characterization. Imo the best way to give somethign to both sides is to have Lothraxion be a double agent but more than The Light it is his boundaries with Alleria and Turalyon who will make him question his original scope, "In The Light we are one" was a truly nice phrase by Maraad poor soul and having Lothraxion better understand what Turalyon and Alleria fight for and to change his heart because of it is enough "Dysneian" to be brought in WoW imo if written in a better whay than I did now xD

The one thing I am constantly confused by.... is that "if" this infiltration scheme was their intention all along.... then all these times when a nathrezim was defeated by somebody...did they know they were going to lose? Are they always pretending to be angry at losing? Whether that be Balnazzar, or Tichondrius, or Mal'Ganis, or Detheroc, or Varimathras...? Some of these times they lost, they were losing to somebody who was already serving Death supposedly... like Arthas and Sylvanas; so how does that work? And why would Varimathras warn us about Sylvanas if Varimathras serves the jailer?

  • @stephendlabick

I think Varimathras simply didn’t trust her intentions. He might’ve known she was working for the jailer, but he probably assumed she would betray him (they’re hinting at her having doubts) so he warned us about her to take her out of the picture for him. Just a guess

I see their loss as more of a setback. Yea it sucks but they don't really die being from the shadowlands. Also I doubt Arthas/lich king is on the side of death. Look at bolvar he brought us in to help. Arthas attacked us to bring us to northrend to turn us into an army. I'm assuming they'll twist this to say he wanted us to stop things like Yogg from invading the shadowlands. Why would Varamathras say anything? To start a war. he tries to being legion on, fails. Legion fails and his dying words are "sylvanas sucks". Her contact with the jailer didn't happen until after V died in wrath. Maybe he don't know and just stirred the pot. Maybe he did know and was gloating. Either way sounds about right.

Has anyone noticed there's a divide already within the Light? When we first met Xe'ra and the Light Mother who are supposed to be the leaders it makes them seem like zealots who want to force the Lights influence across the universe. But in Revendreth that didn't seem to be the case, the Naaru there tells us they invaded just to teach a lesson and dipped. No subjugating, no spreading influence, just doing their job.

  • @stormstrider1990

Clearly, the Naaru are not as united as we thought. Remember who sent us to kill Illidan in the first place? A'dal, the Naaru in charge of Shattrath. He saw Illidan as a threat, where as X'era saw him as the chosen one. It could be another retcon, but I believe it's a sign of disagreement within the domain of Light. That would mean there are also beings of the Light that don't agree with Xe'ra and the Light Mother's zealotry.

I think all forces have shown a divide between two or more forces. The Void doesn’t seem that united, As we saw in Shadowlands Death has been in a power struggle between the forces of Zoval and the forces of the united covenants, Order had a massive fallout with them having the imprison Sargeras, chaos/fell was never truly united under the burning legion ( Some Shivarra joining Illidan and the demon hunter) and are probably fighting each other since the death of all/most of the burning legion leadership, nature doesn’t seem that united either… Like in real life, I don’t think it will be possible to unite any forces for good. The shadowlands are the closest for now but with the new arbiter not sending anyone to the maw, some of the Covenants might feel like they have too much responsibility or not Enough. Most of the souls that would be sent to the maw will probably be sent to Revendreth, where they’ll have to rebuild their number more than Ardenweald and Bastion (maybe more than Maldraxus too since Sindane joined the forces loyal to Maldraxus in the covenant campaign) since they’ve been in a long civil war which had a large part of the population join Denatrius.

I can't stop seeing a sudden betrayal within the Jailer's forces. I can't pinpoint from which end, how it will start, but I can foresee a huge invasion from the Burning Legion into the Maw, bolstering the Legion's forces with the Jailer's, him getting betrayed, and leaving the rest of the Shadowlands very vulnerable to the Legion's corruption. Without Sargeras, the Legion is free of his leadership and ties to the Fel and the Titan worlds limitation. It's obvious to me. Not sure why and how, but it just feels like it'd be predictable.

Please no, they made him into a good guy on legion but he really wasn’t. His acts in Outland just showed us how cruel and ruthless he is… he also has no real reason to leave his watch on Sargeras, he said it himself “a hunter is nothing without the hunt” so I doubt he would have a good enough reason to leave his watch on Sargera. There is also the fact that the Titans are not being of light, but order. Yeah, not much in the way of stakes in the story anymore. I mean, look at BFA: the all-out "forth war" between the Alliance and Horde, with queen Azshara finally unleashed and an Old God rising on top of that, yet not much really happened. Teldrassil and Undercity were destroyed in the pre-patch, but apart from that? We're all fine. :D The Horde-Alliance conflict spanning the Cataclysm and Mists of Pandaria was way more intense. Also, apparently all Old Gods are gone now, even though we didn't even kill the others in the first place? And the one we DID kill wasn't physically present on Azeroth as he should've been? What? And we're not going to get answers either, because leaving everything open and unanswered means they can do whatever they want with it later, no need to follow established lore, characters beings good/evil included! :D

I still think Illidan will eventually turn to light and become the biggest hope of the story, “the chosen one”, and the light path will turn out to be the one truth, to the point of turning this dreadlord from Death to Light. The light has not forgotten us!

I dont think he can betray light even if he initially maybe wanted to. Light doesnt just give people power, which corrupts them, power must be earned and can leave at any time. Also mind wiping.... Illidan might in the future fight the shadow.

Hey nobbel! Do you think that Denathrius planned this all along to escape the Jailer's influence? I mean, he could have killed us freely at any moment during leveling or in the Castle before we killed all of his lieutenants. Maybe he was scared of what may happen to him and revendreth looking at how close they are to the Maw.

Spoiler incoming: We know that the Primus designed the Helm of the Dammed and Frostmourne, what if he decided to find a way to control domination magic as the Maw existed at the same time as the other realms, but then when he showed it to the First-Ones they decided that wielding Domination Magic was far too dangerous for anyone, so they ordered him to hide the plans in a memory
